Normally, an offense's failure to reach the endzone results in a loss. Up against a stout defense, the Outlaws were repeatedly denied in their opponent's territory. Luckily for them, senior Caleb Reynolds was at his best, hitting all six of his attempted field goals while the defense continued their recent trend of game-changing plays as WTU improved to 4-0 in the conference with a 32-21 victory over the Blue Raiders, and matched their best win total in school history with seven wins on the season.

Charles Dickson had a below-average day, completing just 8 of 21 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown. Most of that yardage went to senior Michael Maynard, who had five catches for 71 yards to lead the receiving corps. Luckily for the offense, DeShaun Sands was just as effective as ever, rushing for 170 yards off 33 carries for an average of 5.1 yards per touch. With 1,260 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the year, Sands has set a new team record for most yards in a single season, and currently leads the conference in rushing yards. But the offense's biggest savior was senior kicker Caleb Reynolds, who hit all six of his attempted field goals, including a season-best 51-yarder in the third quarter to lift the team to victory. Reynolds has performed exceptionally well in his final collegiate season, hitting all of his 25 attempted extra points, and 16 of his 18 attempted field goals for a success rate of 88%, which leads the conference. Defensively, West Texas limited the Blue Raiders to 261 total offensive yards, allowed just three successful conversions on eleven 3rd down attempts, and recorded two interceptions to give them a conference-best +12 turnover differential on the year. They were led by true freshman Nate Williams (CB), the team's nickelback, who recorded his third pick of the year and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown to put the Outlaws up 13-0 in the first quarter.

As for the Blue Raiders, senior quarterback Logan Kilgore struggled in his first start of the season, completing 12 of 28 passes for 128 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also rushed for 41 yards off nine carries. Kilgore had been the team's starter for the past two years, completing 42% of his passes for 1,833 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions, and rushing for 902 yards and two scores before losing his starting job to junior Blake Sims this spring. But a recent injury to Sims has put Kilgore back in the driver's seat for the remainder of the season. Groundwise, senior runningback William Pratcher had a decent outing, rushing for 84 yards and a touchdowns off 21 carries. Middle Tennessee State's defense recorded two sacks, and only allowed one touchdown on seven scoring drives, but the relentless Outlaws still came away victorious.

A second loss in the conference has effectively knocked Mid Tenn. St. out of the running for the Sun Belt title, making it a two-man race between UL Monroe and West Texas. But the Blue Raiders still hope to become bowl-eligible by grabbing one more victory this year. The team will hit the road for the next two weeks to face off against Arkansas State (3-6, 2-3) and North Texas (3-7, 1-4) before returning home to host Troy (5-5, 2-4) in their season finale. As for the Outlaws, their 7-2 overall record is the best in the conference, and they'll look to set a new school record with an 8th win next week when they host UL Lafayette (2-7, 1-3) in their ongoing quest to win their first-ever conference championship.

UL Lafayette has always been a tough beat for the Outlaws, with WTU winning their previous two meetings 13-6 and 30-23. This year, the Ragin' Cajuns found themselves on the losing side once again...only this time, they never really stood a chance. Chris Kiniry set the pace by returning an interception 47 yards for a touchdown in the opening minutes of the first quarter, and DeShaun Sands finished the day with three rushing touchdowns as the Outlaws cruised to their 8th win of the season, a new best for the school in their short-lived history.

Charles Dickson had a decent outing under center, completing 12 of 25 passes for 148 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Leading the receiving corps was junior Cam Beach, who had just one catch, but gained 74 yards. Naturally, the hero of the day was senior runningback DeShaun Sands, who continued his stellar season by rushing for 198 yards and three touchdowns off 36 carries for an average of 5.5 yards per touch. Backup runningback Tyree Melton also impressed in limited play, carrying the ball ten times for 47 yards. Defensively, the Outlaws scored a touchdown for the fourth time in the last five games. This time it was senior Chris Kiniry (OLB), who had six tackles, and returned the team's only interception for a touchdown on ULL's first offensive drive of the day. As a unit, the Outlaws recorded three sacks, limited the Cajuns to four successful conversions on twelve 3rd down attempts, and allowed just fourteen points in the win.

As for UL Lafayette, junior quarterback Terrance Broadway continued to struggle with his accuracy, completing 40% of his 27 passes for 189 yards, one touchdown, and one crucial interception that put points on the board for the Outlaws. His go-to man was senior Stephen Alli, who had five catches for 108 yards and a score. On the ground, senior runningback Aaron Spikes had a stellar outing considering the limited amount of play he saw, rushing for 90 yards and a touchdown off 13 carries for an average of 6.9 yards per touch. ULL's defense recorded one sack and an interception, but also allowed 420 total offensive yards, and four touchdowns in five redzone trips.

Losers in four of their last five games, the Ragin' Cajuns will look to finish their poor season on a bright note over the next two weeks as they travel to face Texas State (3-7, 2-3) before ending their season at home against in-state rival UL Monroe. Meanwhile, the Outlaws will immediately begin preparing for their toughest battle of the year next week as they play host to the ULM Warhawks (7-3, 5-0), where one team will walk away with the Sun Belt conference title.

Aside from senior runningback DeShaun Sands, WTU's offense has been downright laughable this season...but the defense has done a stellar job covering it up, forcing a multitude of turnovers over the last few weeks to extend the school's record win streak. But the Warhawks put a stop to the Outlaws' dream run on Saturday as senior quarterback Kolton Browning (pictured above) expertly led UL Monroe to their first outright Sun Belt conference title in school history with a dominant 28-9 victory.

Browning continued his solid play in week fourteen, completing 70% of his passes for 299 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. His go-to man was senior Tavarese Maye, who shredded WTU's secondary with ten catches for 149 yards and a score, while senior tight end Kevin Steed caught five balls for 92 yards. On the ground, the dynamic trio of Browning, junior runningback Devontae McNeal, and backup Tyler Cain combined for 123 yards and two touchdowns off 33 carries. UL Monroe's defense recorded one sack, one interception, and limited West Texas to just 207 total offensive yards and one touchdown. The win gives the Warhawks a 6-0 conference record, just one win away from Sun Belt perfection.

As for the Outlaws, they had one of their worst offensive performances since dropping their season opener to Texas Tech 28-3. Junior quarterback Charles Dickson was abysmal under center, completing just six of his 27 attempted passes for 60 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Warhawks did a good job of containing DeShaun Sands as well, who was limited to 94 yards off 24 carries, but also had two catches for 28 yards and the team's only touchdown of the day. Backup runningback Tyree Melton had a solid outing in limited play, carrying the ball eight time for 49 yards. Defensively, senior Lawrence Castillo (DE) racked up nine tackles and two sacks, and senior A.J. Smart (FS) recorded his second interception of the season, but as a unit the Outlaws failed to contain Browning and the Warhawks' offense, allowing 439 total offensive yards and four touchdowns in six redzone trips.

The Warhawks are officially Sun Belt champions, and will now look to enter the postseason with a bit of momentum as they travel to face off against in-state rival UL Lafayette (3-8, 2-4) in their season finale. Meanwhile, the Outlaws are still assured of a bowl berth as the 2nd place team in the conference, but will look to iron out their offensive issues next week when they hit the road to battle Texas State (3-8, 2-4) in their annual rivalry game.

Ok, here's the deal. I'm leaving for Tulsa in the morning to attend supervisor school, and I'll be gone for seven weeks. But I'm bringing the 360 with me. Hopefully I'll have wi-fi in the apartments they set us up in, so I can continue updating. But worst case scenario, I'll continue to progress with the dynasty, and just save all of my updates until I get back and can upload pictures from the game.
 
So, I have internet...but I can't connect my 360 to it, because it requires me to enter a password through a webpage to activate the service. So my wife is coming down in two weeks to bring my car, and I'll get my 360 flash drive. So I'll just transfer the pictures over to the flash drive, then do the reports.

ONE MORE TIME: SANDS LEADS TEAM TO VICTORY
DeShaun Sands capped off his fantastic regular season with 191 yards and two touchdowns​


With the first postseason appearance in school history just on the horizon, senior runningback DeShaun Sands will have one more chance to impress the loyal fans in West Texas...but he won't need it. Up against in-state rival Texas State, Sands capped off a fantastic regular season with nearly 200 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns, while the defense put the clamps down on the Bobcats' offense to give the Outlaws a 24-17 victory, and their record 9th win of the season.

Enough can't be said about the stellar play of Sands, an Iowa transfer who enjoyed just one season in West Texas, but certainly made it count. Through twelve games, he rushed for 1,743 yards and 14 touchdowns, finishing 2nd in the nation in total rushing yards behind Wisconsin's senior runningback James White. Against the Bobcats, Sands rushed for 191 yards and two touchdowns off 33 carries, averaging 5.7 yards per touch. Through the air, Charles Dickson had a decent outing to finish the regular season, completing 12 of 26 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. Coaches had hoped to see a good amount of improvement from Dickson over his 2012 performance, but instead he regressed, completing just 44% of his passes for 1,432 yards, ten touchdowns, and seven interceptions. True freshmen Brett Brown and Brandon Preston redshirted this year, but will almost certainly challenge Dickson for the starting spot in 2013 as the team continues their search for a solid presence at quarterback. Dickson's go-to man against Texas State was senior tight end Chad Clark, who had six catches for 97 yards. Defensivly, the Outlaws recorded two sacks, but most importantly limited the Bobcats to just seven points despite allowing 319 total offensive yards.

On the other side of the ball, senior quarterback Paul Stone struggled with his accuracy, completing just 36% of his 33 passes for 143 yards and one touchdown, but also racked up 63 rushing yards. Speaking of the ground game, junior runningback Ricky Outlaw performed well in limited play, carrying the ball 14 times for 70 yards. A good amount of the blame for the team's ninth loss of the season can be pinned on the ineptitude of the offense, but their defense didn't do them any favors either, failing to record a single sack or turnover as they allowed 372 yards and three touchdowns. This marks Texas State's second straight 3-9 (2-5) season as they continue their struggles in the FBS.

The 2012 regular season is officially over, but the excitement has just begun. Six action-packed conference championship games loom on the horizon, as well as a full host of bowl action that will feature the West Texas Outlaws for the first time in school history.

Well, apparently you can't just transfer a saved picture to a flash drive and then load it onto the computer...I guess the file goes through some sort of conversion process when you upload it to the EA servers. So, until I return home in five weeks, my updates will be without pictures.
