Ok, I've been a colts fan for about 10 years, so I've been privileged with the opportunity to watch Peyton have great years but never make it to a super bowl until a few years ago. On the other hand, I have seen Brady win 3 rings. One was off a last second kick, sure, but who lead them down the field to set up the kick. One was off a controversial ruling on a replay, and this is a very credible argument. If you like Brady, you'll say it wasn't a fumble. If you don't like him, you'll say it's a fumble, and that he only has two legitimate rings. It doesn't matter. All that matters is what has happened and what has been entered into the history books. And that's that Tom Brady has 3 super bowl wins and Peyton Manning has one.
But...Does having more championships automatically make you better? You might be able to win 5 super bowls if you have a shitty quarterback if your running game is absolutely dominating and you have some of the best receivers in the game. On the other hand, you might win none with that same team. It all depends. Dan Marino is considered by many to be the best QB to ever play the game. He had zero Super Bowl wins. Does that mean Rich Gannon is better than Marino? I know that's a bad comparison, but that's what some people base their decision on. A super bowl win. It's an important thing, don't get me wrong. But you just can't say that having more rings automatically makes you better. Statistically, Tom Brady has won more playoff games than Peyton Manning, and this is because he is a good QB. But Peyton is also a good QB. It all depends on what team your are playing.
But that brings me to another point. You can't just play the 'what if' game all day, because it NEVER HAPPENED. What if Dan Marino HAD won a super bowl? What if Tom Brady didn't have a great defense to help him win games? What if Peyton Manning had the receivers Tom Brady did, would he have the same level of sucess? It just doesn't work, and it won't end any arguments.
I don't really know where I'm going with this, except that in my mind, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are obviously hall of fame QBs, and being a Colts fan, it's hard for me to say that Brady is better than Manning, and it's a debate that will probably still be alive 50 years from now. To me, they are equal. I know that sounds weird, but there's certain qualities I would favor from each QB. Tom Brady has more big-game wins, so one could argue he plays better under pressure. Peyton Manning brought a struggling team in the beginning of the year to a 12-4 record, winning the MVP award.
I understand it's human nature to root for the QB that runs your team's offense, but at least we can all agree they are both good QB's. It's an opinion on who is better, and 99.9 percent of Patriots fans will say Brady is better, and the same is true for Colts fans favoring Manning.
SO yeah, this post didn't really have a main point that I wanted to convey, but there's my two cents.
