Top 10 QB's going into 2010-2011

One thing that I don't get about most of these lists is how low some have Ben Roethlisberger…especially when he’s behind guys like Shaub, Rivers, Rodgers, etc who are all guys who put up a lot of stats, but not much else. We often get into discussions about QB’s performing when it matters and on the biggest stage. We elevate guys based on this rational and condemn guys who don’t perform when it matters most. I am a Baltimore Ravens fan, so I get to see a lot of Roethlisberger, but IMO other than Peyton Manning there is no other QB that I fear more than Roethlisberger. I understand he isn’t always orthodox, but the guy with 2 minutes left is deadly. He has 2 Superbowls and has proven himself to be an elite QB. Very underrated.

And yes, part of that is because we traded him for three disappointing draft picks (Chris Houston, Justin Blaylock, Jamaal Anderson :smh and I don't want to admit he's good. Just call me Nuke Jr.

Justin Blalock is not a disappointing draft pick at all. He's been our starting left guard since day one and has played excellent. Houston and Anderson on the other hand....

I completely agree. Roethlisberger is top 5 under any measure, IMO. Especially in recent years when he hasn't had much of a running game to speak of. He keeps plays alive and can drive a dagger in a team late. Clutch, a winner, can win games with his arm, can carry a team for stretches, and has 2 Super Bowl rings. To rank him below anyone but Brees, Brady and Manning is rather foolish.

He also has a game winning drive to win a Superbowl. That the stuff of legends.

Definitely agree. Besides Brees, Manning and Brady, I have Rivers ahead of him also .. I wouldn't be upset with a switch though. Rivers really has no argument other than my personal opinion.

Yes, agreed. Roethlisberger is 5th on my list and I don't think many should argue that he isn't ranked somewhere between 4-6.

I'm going to use one of your old stand-by arguments to help you out. Stats mean nothing without playoff wins.

Romo has 1 playoff win in 5 years.
Eli has 3 wins in 6 years and a SB ring in his 5th season.
McNabb's first five years he had 4 playoff wins, and 9 total playoff wins.

Many times I've seen you discount Brees or whoever for having just 1 win, while giving all the props to winners like McNabb and Eli.

I also gave serious consideration to Crapson Palmer at #10, but then I remembered, he lead an offensive passing attack which was worse than Detroit and Kansas City, despite having one of the best running attacks in football, and the 4th ranked defense in total yards.

I think it's clearly 4 tiered with the drop off from 6 to 7 being pretty huge. You can make a case for a ton of guys for 10 I think with Mcnabb/Ryan/Flacco/Cutler/Palmer all being fairly interchangeable there.

ok I just found your 10-11 list. I thought you were trying to place Romo closer to top 3 and McNabb/Eli close to off the list. My bad I see you have them really close together and at the 7-9 mark, which sounds good to me. That makes them almost interchangeable on this list depending on fanhood and faith.

This will be the first year, at least that I recall, where Tony Romo will be ranked ahead of Donovan McNabb. I seriously think they should consider replacing the guy. I probably should have went with Eli over McNabb, too, since the end seems to be closing in, but I'll give McNabb another year. Dallas just seems to be getting better, and I fully expected them to make it to the NFC Championship, and I'll have the same expectations in 2010-2011, so I'm giving Tony Romo the spot.

They are both good football teams, and in this league you can go from 8-8 and win the SB the next season. That said I wouldn't say the Eagles are done or that they will continue this trend of getting worse. They have some damn good players, young talent, veteran leadership, and you still have to gameplan for McNabb and Westbrook. Then you have worry about Jackson's gamebreaking ability, Celerystik, and all sorts of offensive weapons, and a new young RB who can spell Westbrook or maybe one day take over. That defense needs help which I assume will be addressed in the off season but I don't think the Eagles are in bad shape at all. McNabb has enough going on around him that he could very well have a better season than Romo. I'm just saying it's no guarantee one way or the other.
