It's going to be fun watching Brock get knocked out by Ray Mercer in 9 seconds.

All the talk was Shields' weight cut pwned him. Hopefully this is just a one time deal but who knows. I would assume the UFC will want some assurances from him before they go ahead and give him the next 170 title shot.

As for the main event, holy shit. Cain Velasquez is a monster. He dominated Brock. Lesnar shot in right away and couldn't get the takedown. They traded some strikes as Brock looked to keep it close. Lesnar took him down twice and Velasquez got back up almost too easily it seemed. Velasquez tagged him and it was all she wrote.

Fact is Lesnar's stand-up is his weak point. At heavyweight, you need to be able to take power punches and be comfortable trading. He is not. I'm sure he'll work on that, beat Mir again and get another title shot.

Hereon out, I fully expect Velasquez to be champion for a long ass time.

At the same time, remember...Joe Rogan boasted all that 'new era' talk when Machida won the belt. Who knows.

He should, but this is Dana we are talking about...he'll probably say being gassed to Marty Kampmann means his next fight should be against Carlos Condit, just to make sure Shields can adequately hang.

Why would he be pissed? They are better off financially with Cain as champion. Brock will still draw regardless, and with an impressive win maybe Cain can develop into a draw. Same deal when Brock faced Carwin, would have been far more beneficial for Brock to lose. Now Carwin is preceived as a fraud, which probably isnt fair, and has a lot of work to do to become a draw.

-The first was a no brainer. Shields.

-The second, Kampmann dropped him with knees twice, escaped full mount at one point, and came pretty close on two subs. Shields spent more time on top, but didn't do nearly as much damage, and didnt come as close to finishing.

-Anyone who gave Shieds the third doesnt understand MMA. Shields was dominated until the 1:42 mark, when he secured a takedown. The first 3:20 was all Kampmann, including a 1:30 stretch where he had a choke locked in. Shields gets a late takedown, wins the last 1:30 or so, and two judges give him the round. Embarrassing.

I've been one of Shields biggest supporters around these parts...I appreciate what he does...but I am not sure he outright won that fight...at the end of the day, I think he might have escaped with what he did...a close split decision win...at worst, I can see a loss. It could have gone either way, IMO.

TBH, I don't think either man outright won that fight.

Kampmann fought a bad fight despite his good job of getting out of Shields' grappling holds. I guess he was too scared to throw his leather.

Round 1 was definitely Shields.

2, I had for Shields. I don't think he dropped Jake with knees as much as when Kampmann threw them, Shields shot for the takedown.

I had it 29-28 Shields.

I dunno if there's even enough there to call it a work... Its barely anything at all. Unless Lesnar was giving Taker a death-stare all the way up to him, its a glance and a few words. "Its personal"...? Is Taker supposedly still sore over Lesnar leaving the E?

Undertaker is pushing 50 and his body is destroyed, so "Do you wanna do it?" clearly wasnt a shoot challenge of any sort. He's working an angle, the only question is if Lesnar is in on it.

The fact Undertaker did this interview, completely out of character no less, is the first red flag of 'work'. He doesnt do that stuff. They could have some back door deal with Dana & Brock, and Taker did this 'out of character' interview to give the angle credibility. Buildup for WrestleMania, perhaps.

The sherdog geeks would all die of heart attacks if this were the case, hilarity would ensue to the highest order.

The other thing fishy about this, is Undertaker goes to UFC events all the time, and has done so for many years, going back to the pre TUF days.

To my knowledge, they have never shown him on camera and akknowledged him as one of the celebrities at cageside...until tonight. How convenient.

Assuming it is a work, where's the payoff for Lesnar? And for White, if he's aware. I don't really see either guy wanting to get back in bed with pro wrestling. And would it be with the WWE, given their relationship with Spike and Spike's relationship with TNA...?
