It's funny, Silva pulled that stuff in fights with Patrick Cote, Thales Leites, Forrest Griffin, Demian Maia, Yushin Okami and Stephan Bonnar.

Only Chris Weidman was able to not get thrown off his game, and make Anderson pay for it by knocking him the fuck out.

Have to believe Anderson never pulls that shit again...

The biggest difference which led to Weidman connecting was his fearlessness to lean in and go for the hook. Everyone else was too scared, thinking they'd get suckered in, so they stayed back and jabbed away, which left'em open for Spider to quickly go into attack mode and catch'em.

Early on, he was doing the same shit with Weidman and caught him and a few times...go into the second round, and Weidman just leaned in, full bore, and caught'em clean on the chin and considering Silva was already trying to matrix he was done-zo. Eyes rolled back like an antique cash register. Would not shock me if that was a plan going in...let Spider clown, but don't be scared to be suckered. The two dudes with the most success against Silva...Weidman and Sonnen I, went in fearless.

Everyone else either was psyched out from the start or simply could not offer anything to put Silva in danger (overmatched, which led to Silva trying to entertain himself to a degree).
 
Everyone keeps saying "that is Silva's style, hes always done that", and its true, it is his style. But even for him it was extremely excessive and foolish last night. Ive never laughed harder at a KO, ever.

The leaked UFC contracts that were released a few months ago show that winning a title automatically kicks-in a 3 fight contract extension. So he will likely make more money per fight, but, I wonder how much leverage he really has.
 
Doesnt make sense to throw a fight like that

First off, youre 38, don't take unnecessary brain damage when you can get tapped out, mma gives these guys an out any fight, let the guy take you down, get rolled over and choked

He could have fought Jones for more money, lost and it wouldn't be as bad a loss because of the weight class

He was playing around and got clipped, that's it, he does this stuff, age caught up in this fight, he rarely gets caught flush

To be fair, there IS a method to the clowning madness...its not always acting like a clown for the sake of being a clown.
 
I don't think Silva gave a shit. After the fight said he doesn't want to fight for the title anymore, and said Weidman was the best fighter in the world now. I just think it was really awkward.
