Theres no reason why Rashad cant still be top 5 p4p, altho top 10 is probably more fair.. thing is Machida is now top 2 or 3. If not the best, as ive been saying for a while now.

Rashad is still a tremendous fighter tho, he should've worked the ground more with Lyoto last nite but I guess he wanted to prove he could slay the Dragon. I fully expect him to come looking better than ever his next fight. Dude improves all the time.

Why do you say Serra won? He arguably was just dominated on the ground in rounds 1 and 2. Round 3 was won by Serra IMO but the other 2 rounds were clearly in Hughes favour.

I can think of 10 better fighters.

He does improve everytime, he's just not there yet.

Serra didnt "almost" finish the fight.. he rocked Hughes and did a poor job of doing further damage. Then Hughes got on top of him and worked him for the next 4 minutes or so. Couple big shots and a head butt dont equal a winning round when you get worked on the ground IMO.

You probably should watch the first round again. Hughes didn't work Serra on the ground, he didn't do any damage at all. Serra got back to his feet easily.

That's like saying Lesnar was dominating Randy before he caught him. Absurdity.

Rashad Evans has only fought but a few contenders and just lost to one them, no way he should be mentioned as top 5 P4P right now.

The Serra fight was close. Serra def got round one, Hughes def got round 2, but round 3 was the toss up. Hughes was able to get him down, but he never dealt any damage whereas Serra was going for subs and also scored a sweet takedown at the end of the round as well. I was at least expecting a split decision, and even though Hughes may have won the fight I was more impressed with Serra's performance.

Of course after losing everyone calls rashad overrated, but he wasnt, he was the champ of the LHW divison which is probably the toughest divsion in MMA, there is a reason guys cant stay champ for more than a couple fights, every since the pride guys jumped into the UFC (Rampage, Shogun, etc...) you wont stay champ for long, even Machida

Rashad was the champ of a great divison, beat Chuck and Forrest and didnt have a L on his record, if he would have beat Machida he would be near the top

Exactly.. its amazing how quick people are to hate on guys after one loss to possibly the best fighter we've seen in a long while. Its not fair to call Rashad overrated at all. If he wins that fight everyone calls him a top 3 fighter, just as Rob said.

I've been calling him overrated for a while actually. His only notable wins are over Forrest, and a washed up Liddell.

Agree wholeheartedly, especially the last point. Rashad still has two highlight reel knockouts to his credit, and while sure, I'm the first to admit Chuck was well past his prime, that knockout had only been done in that way once with his Rampage fight. Sure he'd been TKO'ed before by Randy, but even that wasn't to the degree Rampage's and Rashad's were.

Is Rashad a Top 5 P4P? Hell no. What he is, is a very exciting fighter who has gotten better with all but his latest fight. I still think he'll be able to work his way back into the title picture soon.

lol @ comparing rashad to matt serra, matt was a journeyman who threw a lotto punch, rashad was undefeated and winning big

I think people still forget MMA is not like boxing, guys lose, not like boxing where all the top guys are undefeated or only have 1 loss, thats what makes guys like randy still great, he is 16-9 or something, 'awful' record in boxing terms, but MMA is like K1 where the top guys fight each other alot, so there will be some losses

thats what makes fedor great, he does both, Machida is on that path, but in that division I can see himing taking a couple L's

rampage, shogun even a gritty forrest can put a lose on a top guy quick

if rashad actually did some wrestling again I can see him grinding out a win against Machida

machida has said he has interest in the HW division. id love to see him face off against brock and wreck him. machida went from a "boring technical fighter" to knocking people the fuck out. very glad to see him with the belt

I agree with a lot of things Rob is saying. However, I also agree that Rashad was a tad bit overrated. He looked completely helpless against Machida. He made it to the second round, but half of the first round the clock ran down, and Rashad maybe got 1 or 2 clean hits in the whole fight. It looked like Jeff Hardy tried to box and got thrown in a championship fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

I know Rashad is talented and he's had his fair share of wins, but other fighters have put up a better fight against Machida recently. The way Machida dominated Rashad was pretty embarrassing.
