[PS3] Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Also I got stuck on that damn cruise ship. After you get into that big ball room, I just can't seem to get stealthy on these guys after I knock the first 2 out. And then those big fucks with the SWAT gear gang rape me.

Cutter they pull out of the clear blue sky and constantly have you wondering where he came from and why he was there. Why would he risk his life to trick Marlowe? Elena and Nate, it's clear that something went wrong but they keep alluding to the fact that she has the ring on still but they don't ever say what the point of that is (until the end which was basically the same as UC2 -- look, they're together now! Until UC4 where they're broken up again). And why throw in that Nate's last name isn't Drake just to turn around and never address it? What was the point?

 

Not that it's solves the mystery, but they do mention how every time it gets real, Nate backs off. He's always keeping people at arms distance. I'm sure that's what happened with Elena. Now I too would like some more clarity on exactly what happened this time around. And with his name, did they actually say that wasn't his last name? B/c all I remember is when he told Sully his name was Nathan Drake in the flashback, Sully just had a "yeah right" chuckle, but I don't remember them actually saying that wasn't it.

And again I can totally see where Sessler was coming from now with his 4/5 and it further cements me in my opinion that he didn't do it just to be pro 360.

The sluggishness of aiming is quite annoying and hopefully will be patched (maxing sensitivity helped) - wasn't an issue in UC2.

FYI, this problem doesn't exist in MP - completely responsive.

In terms of dying and not knowing what to do, I am referring to the Cruise ship machine gun dude, the flooding cruise ship, and the storm in the desert personally. There was very little direction in those and guys coming from behind you and in front of you and it made for some pretty shitty situations.

Story wise it left a lot unexplained that it hinted at, and I felt like it was a little silly to go in that direction if you're not going to explain it. Who is Charlie Cutter? What happened between Nate and Elena (further, is it going to become a regular thing that we randomly reintroduce Elena mid-game now?)? What is Nate's real name? It's admittedly little stuff, but in the end it tarnished my overall enjoyment that I finished the game wanting to know what happened to these characters.

The tainted water stuff was just lame, in my opinion. Silly explanation, silly usage.

 

The only one of those parts that you mentioned that I couldn't figure out what to do was the battle with the machine guy dude on the ship. I don't know what to tell you about the other stuff. You do know you can press UP on the d-pad to get a hint, right?

Like Swarley said, I like that they leave some stuff open. The only thing that I was disappointed about was Nate and Elena not kissing...at all. How is that possible? I like Charlie being mysterious because you spent the whole game wondering if he might turn on you like Talbot did in Uc2. As for Elena, I thought that was a great way to bring her back and great timing to boot. I kept wondering if and when we would ever see her and when we did I was grinning from ear to ear.

Was the tainted water silly? Maybe. But please tell me how you would've created a better story scenario. I'm all ears. I thought it worked very well.

It's like how people just hate on sports teams like the Patriots, Yankees, etc. Just nitpicking every detail. I also find it odd that you would defend the Gears story as being good but nitpick every detail of the Uncharted 3 story. Really? The Gears story can't hold a candle to this game.

To each his own I guess. I like having some backstory to look forward to uncovering in a future game. And with the popularity of this IP, I don't see how they wont make at least one more.

100% agree. And to think that they won't make another Uncharted game is laughable. Who knows, maybe there will be some Charlie and Elena backstory in the Vita game?

I don't think there's much backstory between Nate and Elena. If I remember right, it seemed like they had just met right before Drake's Fortune. But I've been hoping for some Nate and Chloe backstory in Golden Abyss. *fingers crossed*

In fairness to myself, I said that I was intrigued by Gears and that I was happy that they finally learned how to tell a story. Now, I did enjoy the story overall, but that's really apples and oranges here anyway. UC2 pre blue people was some of the best storytelling in an adventure game I've ever seen. So I hold UC3 to a bit higher level. It's like how Dragon Age 2 has a pretty good story, but in comparison to the first I thought it was pretty bad because the expectation was so high.

And spare me on the Gears story can't hold a candle to this. They are both pretty action movieish. I think I liked Gears story a little more because my expectations were pretty low.

And I think it's funny that you WANT questions for future games, when in most cases you would be complaining that you have to buy more games to get the full story.

I went in with mixed expectations because everything I saw of it screamed of UC2. I critique things I think are worth critiquing. You seem to be so intent on defending this. This games single player had just as many flaws as Gears 3, a game you would give a 4/5, yet because it's UC you'll turn a blind eye to it. Seems a little silly. UC3 is a very good game, but not as good as UC2 and in my personal opinion if they do a 4th and don't change it up, I'll probably not play it. Just like I won't play the next Gears game. Or the next Batman game if they do the same shit (although I think I enjoyed Arkham City more than UC3).

I don't understand why this always has to be something you get defensive over. Do you really think that Uncharted 3 is a perfect game? I have some critiques about it that I think are 100% valid. If you can say that those critiques AREN'T valid (combat stuff fine, to each their own, but story wise more importantly) then okay, but otherwise don't detract.

Of course not. Uncharted is far from perfect but it's still one of the best games I've ever played and the series probably is my favorite series right now.

But yeah, I do think having a story that is rooted in truth makes it much more enjoyable and interesting. Playing through a game that involves parts of history that you can recall from high school or whenever is pretty damn awesome. Knowing that there is a real Rub Al Khali desert and that there is a legend of treasure beneath those sands is amazing. Knowing that I could fly there right now and experience some of that history is cool as shit. Fighting back waves of lambent infested bugs is not. That's something that I've done hundreds of times. Did I enjoy my trip through Gears 3? Yup. Playing through the campaign with Med, Swarley and others was some of the most fun I've had all year in gaming. Will I forget what happened a few months from now? Probably.

Uncharted is a much more memorable experience. I can still remember what happened in both Uncharted 1 and 2 and it's been quite some time since I played those games. The same can't be said for the forgettable Gears or Halo stories. I think a lot has to do with the fact that the characters are regular people, not space marines or hulking steroid freaks.

Plus the characters in Uncharted are much more believable and relatable. I seriously got choked up when Elena returned and the back and forth between her and Drake throughout the game was special to me. The same definitely can not be said about the hulking charicatures in Gears. Do I think Marcus and crew are cool characters? Yes I do. But not on the same level as the Uncharted characters. I really care about what happens with the characters in Uncharted.

What part exactly are you talking about?

 

The part where you leave Elena behind? Because I think no matter what you do they see you as soon as you walk to the left so it's just balls to the wall gunfighting.

Or are you talking about the stealth sections through the warehouses? Just sneak up on people and snap their necks and use your silenced pistol whenever possible. The only part that game me trouble was the very last part because I kept restarting wanting to go through completely stealthy but at the very least the last two guys will spot you because you can't take them both out at once. So just try to methodically take them out one at a time, and quickly because if they spot a body the alarm is triggered.
