Weird calls/challenges of Week 7

The fact that someone handed a ref a ball means absolutely nothing.

Now if there was clear visible evidence in the replays of AF COMING OUT OF THE PILE WITH THE BALL IN HIS POSSESSION....then you guys are correct. Not (after the fact) still pictures of him laying in a pile without indisputable possession and then standing upright with the ball.

Fact is because it was ruled a TD, the refs didn't give a shit about the pile as it was happening.

You can see Alama-Francis fall on the ball, the only other person close enough is his own teammate Randy Starks. Please note the ref standing 3 yards away watching the whole thing. Stay tuned to 4:14 of the clip where they have a close-up. To hear Big Ben say in the postgame something along the lines he had the ball anyway is purely laughable, but then again look at the guys character.

The reality is, the refs didn't have the balls to hand the ball over to Miami. Perhaps there was some home cooking int here too, but I just straight up think the refs didn't have the balls to take the ball away from one of the NFLs "darling" teams.

I actually did see it since I don't have Fox for the time being. CBS is the only football at the moment.

AF did not CLEARLY POSSESS the football. Because he appeared to be the dude who fell on it means shit.

Guys are arguing over nothing because they ruled a TD so they did not focus on the recovery.

Show me in those replays where AF clearly possess the football. You cannot because he never did in those replays.

Period.

You are telling me you have no doubt, 100% believe that those 2 players couldn't get the ball from a player with just one hand on the ball? You either have never played football before or refuse to take of the glasses and see that it wasn't 100% evidence and that anything can happen in that pile up.

Could Miami have recovered and had possesion? Sure they could have. But the RULES state you need 100% undisputable visible evidence and you sure as shit don't have that in the video.

Look around 6:05 man. Two Dolphins players hands are definitley out-streched 100% on the ball, but then comes big ol' #64 from Pittsburgh jumping right in between them right where the ball should be. We have no idea what happened underneath his body and have no clue where in fact the ball lies. That is not clear evidence. Sorry

Two refs clearly staring into the pile theres action going on hes already prancing to the sidelines mic on making a call ? Seems like a speedy reaction, no.

The refs made the right call, and I myself applaud them for that. It could have been very easy to give either team the ball and rule it a touchdown or Miami ball at the twenty but they didn't. They made the right call. It's not me being a Jet fan, I even texted my friend who is a Phins fan and even said that they got screwed out of what could have been a big play at the time.

I will say after watching that video and slowing it down and pausing that they player that most likely has possesion of the ball is in fact Alma-Francis. Yes. But the refs and whoever else watches that video cannot say that they are 100% positive that he does have the ball and that's the rules.

Yes. Many weird things going on. It might have just been the camera angle, but it appeared that the TD call was delayed. By this point the ball is on the ground, underneath Alama-Francis' body. The refs acknowledge that the ball is not in Roethlisberger's possession, but they are frozen to the spot, except for the Head Ref who is sprinting to the sidelines to say that its a TD.

When reviewing plays, refs cannot "infer" as to what may have happened.

dude, the dolphins were the first to the ball, and came out of the pile with the ball. I don't see how there is any doubt that the dolphins recovered the fumble.

maybe in similar situations in real time, we should give the ball back to the fumbling team. we never really know what happens in a pile, so in the instance that a pile occurs, the fumble should be voided.

why use the same logic on replays that we do in real time? that wouldn't make sense!

I'm certain the fact that a Dolphin handed the ref the ball meant nothing. That wasn't part of the replays reviewed.

In the play reviewed, there was no clear recovery from either team, so, the ball went back to Pittsburgh.

The guys they have currently are just not good. They are normal people (read: fans) who happen to be out there having a direct impact on the game. We keep hearing how they're not supposed to make "judgement calls", yet that's what nearly all of these questionable calls are - based on judgement.

If memory serves, it was two plays after the penalty on Loadholt that Matthews just ripped his own helmet off and ran down the field trying to make the tackle.

That was a clear violation of the "Emmitt Smith" rule and should have resulted in a Vikings 1st down somewhere around the 15-20 yard line.

Didn't he rip it off because it was in the way (he couldn't see)?

About the whole helmet thing, I noticed someone ripped their helmet off and threw it to the ground and the refs threw a flag. Then I flipped over to the Patriots game and watched Tom Brady take his helmet off on the field a bunch of times between plays to fix his hair, no flags thrown.

Maybe it's in the nature that you take your helmet off?

I think nearly everything Pereira says is retarded, regardless of him being on Goodell's payroll. The guy has no concept of reality...he's like a college business professor who has never worked a day in the real world.
