What Would You Do If You Were Alex Smith?

There are reports that he's mad at his agent and is considering firing him because his agent is also Manning's. I don't think he's visiting teams as a ploy to drive his price up, I think he's dead up serious. I think he's fed up with the niners after this (even if that is a little silly, he's lucky he's still a starter after how his career began) and is seriously looking for a new team.

My theory.

- On Saturday/Sunday Condon knows Manning is going to Denver
- Condon calls Smith and tells him to go visit Miami to drive up his value
- Smith goes , talks deal
- Monday news breaks Manning to Denver
- SF to Smith, "Oh, come on Alex...... we really do like you, what do you want?"
- Smith, :dtrain:

Easy increase in the guaranteed money if he plays it right. He also gets to look like he's the better man and taking the high road in his return to SF. "The team is bigger than me" blah blah blah and everyone will give him props for it. He gets what he really wanted all along and for more money.

I believe Harbaugh and Baalke were genuine when they initially announced that Smith was their guy, and they had no interest in pursuing Manning...but when he turned down their contract offer, that changed the game. This debacle was Smith's fault for over-valuing himself as a player.

He decided to shop around and realized the grass was not greener.

He was dumb to even consider leaving the coach that turned him from waiver wire fodder to a guy that "earned" a second contract, lucrative, at that.

Alex Smith, for a smart guy, was pretty dumb in this instant.

Its being reported by ESPN as 3 years and about $24 million. So basically the deal they were offering him from the start.
