DSpyder,
Humor me and answer this: If Ok St was undefeated(squeaker win over Iowa State) and Alabama had a squeker loss to LSU I'm sure some people would still say Alabama was the second best team.....Do you feel this way?
Thanks,
VSD
In my honest opinion, and this is not bullshit, I would still stay Alabama is the second best team. BUT, and this is important, because Oklahoma St wins the game (and assuming they go on to beat Oklahoma), they would be ranked higher and deserving to play in the National Championship game.
The issue is this: They're all at one loss (except Houston, which I said before causes a whole different mess in itself). Because of that, it levels the playing field in terms of record. So we have to look at who that loss was against.
As I said from the beginning, I think LSU and Alabama are in a class of their own. That's my opinion. The voters have a different opinion. So do you. The problem is it comes down to what we all think, not what happens on the field.
You can call it blind homerism if you want, but I think I've been pretty fair with everything I've said up to this point. I would vouch for LSU if they were in our shoes because I still stand by these two teams as the best in the country. I would also stand by Alabama if they weren't in contention at all (and bitch for a playoff system because they got robbed).
Bottom line: The rankings are/always will be fucked up. Stripping everything away and looking at Team A against Team B, I think the best two teams are LSU and Alabama. And since that is the case, they should compete for the National Championship.
