Watching two teams play great defense and fight tooth and nail to keep each other out of the red zone, and then have the game decided by gimmick backyard shit which automatically places each team in scoring position.

Reminds me of third grade gym class kickball where the shitty athletes were allowed to bat until they finally reached base.

Fuck CFB and its stupid postseason and gay overtime.

It is difficult to take CFB seriously with those overtime rules. The best part is that I remember many people clamoring for the NFL to adopt the same OT :facepalm:

NCAA overtime is a joke. They should at least place the ball farther back at the 40 or 50 so teams arent automatically in scoring position.

At least this game was decided in 1st overtime by a FG, the WORST is when a game goes multiple overtimes and the scores jacks up into the 50's, like Stanford-USC last week.

I have always hated the NCAA overtime system. Would rather them just play two separate five minute halves with two kickoffs. That way both teams are guaranteed to get possession via a normal football play.

That said, last night's game was awesome and anyone who complained that it was boring deserves to get kicked in the dick. Agree with the OP though, college OT has always sucked.

meh i've kinda always dug it. and i don't understand how you can get upset when it goes multiple overtimes like the usc-standford game, that shit just bleeds drama and nervousness. yeah it comes down to who fucks up first usually, but that's what makes each play during overtime so big and important.

But it's contrived drama.

For example, you could take it a step further and make every drive start with a 3rd down too, and it would be dramatic, but it's not how the game is played.

It seems silly to play 60 minutes one way, then switch up the rules so drastically to determine the winner. You see games all the time where the first team misses a FG, then the second team proceeds to run up the gut three consecutive plays for minimal gain, kick the 39 yard FG, and win.

Just play football. Honestly, I'd rather see them bring back the tie games then watch games decided this way.

I agree this game was a little less "awesome" because of Bama's mistakes in OT but it was a FANTASTIC game to watch and the only changes to OT I'd like to see is moving the ball back to about the 50. College Football does everything right compared to the NFL (including the postseason). That game last night would not have meant shit if there was a postseason playoff. That's why the NFL regular season is so boring to watch.

I will never understand why people defend college OT. Are you in favor of a three point shoot out for basketball OT? How about when baseball goes extra innings, we load up the bases at the start of every inning?

College OT fundamentally changes the objectives of the game. You are no longer playing the same game you were playing the previous 60 minutes. You are eliminating kickoffs & punts, and the teams are placed into scoring position. It's not a leap at all to compare that to starting a baseball inning with men on base, it's actually exactly the same.

The party I was at had a couple hockey fans who were trying to be hockey :smug: and they brought up how hockey doesn't have a lame OT system. I just laughed at them and had to point out hockey gets it right for about 5 minutes then it's the equivalent of a basketball free throw shooting contest.

The clock will be set to 5:00, team A kicks to team B, the two teams then exchange punts or scores or do whatever else for the next 5 minutes, then the buzzer sounds, the clock is set back to 5:00, and we line back up for another kickoff, where team B kicks to team A. Whoever is winning at the end of the 10 minute OT period is the winner. If it's tied, we do another 10 minutes with sudden death.

Takes just as long, but preserves the actual rules. Both teams get a fair shot with at least one guaranteed possession, and both teams continue to play real football.
