Offense Can't Find Rhythm in Defensive Win

Bloomington, IN - It seems that Darius Willis was a bigger part of the Indiana offense then people thought. In the games that he's missed, it has been up to the defense to guide the Hoosiers to victory, and today was no different.

I'm going to be quite frank here. Indiana's offense sucked today. Sure, Jammone Chester threw for 200 yards (the first time in his career that he has done so). Sure, Zach Davis-Walker ran for 83 yards. But they only put up 7 points on offense, something that hasn't happened under coach Thompson's reign as head coach. "I am extremely disappointed." coach told us. "I figured, 'so what if Willis is hurt? We can still win!' Instead, my offense has fallen apart." "I didn't think I made such a difference in our offense," Willis added. "It wasn't as if I was racking up stats. I guess my presence out there just made our whole team better."

The offense struggled today. Clearly. But thankfully, the defense stepped up its game and carried the Indiana team to victory once again. How did they do it? With 5 interceptions. And 3 interceptions for touchdowns.

Not much more I can say. Every pass was intercepted by the Hoosiers, and most of them were returned for touchdowns. "The defensive backs just had a glint in their eyes. You could tell today was their time to shine," said Ben Chappell, the backup quarterback. "It almost made me want to go out there and play on defense with them."

Indiana plays Iowa next week in what could be one of their huge trap games this season.

The Battle is on for the Starting Halfback Position

Bloomington, IN - Since Darius Willis is injured and Zach Davis-Walker hasn't been performing up to par, coach Anthony Thompson has reopened the starting halfback position.

Zach Davis-Walker (redshirt Sophomore), Drew Gray (Freshman), and Shane Covington (redshirt Junior) are all competing for the starting job. Davis-Walker is still leading the battle, but it's close. "[Zach Davis-Walker] hasn't been performing as well as we hoped," said coach Anthony Thompson yesterday. "He hasn't been rushing for a good average, a lot of touchdowns, or many yards per game. He's not performing well in any way."

No other news was given out about the starting job, but it appears that Drew Gray is way behind Covington and Davis-Walker.
