Willis Set to Have Surgery Tomorrow, Indiana Cracks Top 25

Bloomington, IN - Coach Anthony Thompson announced yesterday that Darius Willis is going to have surgery tomorrow on his dislocated elbow.

Darius Willis, who was supposed to be the top Indiana running back this season, dislocated his elbow during Indiana's 25-23 win over the #11 Ohio State Buckeyes. After the game, the Hoosiers medical staff also discovered a tear of his Brachioradialis (a muscle that stretches across the elbow). "Unless he wants to have permanent damage in his arm, he must have this injury fixed," coach told the Herald-Times newspaper yesterday. "It's a pretty serious injury, and he might never be able to play running back again unless it is fixed."

In other Indiana news, the Hoosiers have finally broken the wall between them and the top 25 rankings during the regular season. Last season, they ended the season in the AP Top 25 for the first time since 1988, and are on pace this year to finish even better than before. "We're winning everything," was all coach had to say.

Their 19th ranking is the highest since 1991, when they were 17th in the country for a few weeks until they lost a couple of Big-10 games.

Despite Offensive Struggles, Indiana Wins Tough Road Game

Madison, WI - Despite the Hoosiers offense struggling yesterday against the #25 Wisconsin Badgers, two 2nd half pick-sixes saved the Hoosiers from an early exit from the top 25.

"It was unbelievable," coach Thompson said yesterday. "Every time the Badgers started driving down the field, we would steal the ball away and score a touchdown. I can't thank the defense enough for their play today. Especially the secondary."

The Hoosiers didn't start off so well, being held scoreless in the 1st quarter and ending the half ahead 7-6. "I seriously thought we were going to lose," assistant coach Tim Fitzpatrick said. Damarlo Belcher said it more blatantly, mentioning that "We couldn't do s***." But Indiana took off in the 2nd half, scoring 17 points while shutting out the Badgers. But it wasn't the offense that put up the points. It was the defense.

Two straight plays, two straight interceptions for touchdowns. By two different people. After a fantastic interception by Chris Adkins, in which he caught the ball, spun before going out of bounds, and then ran into the end zone, Donnell Jones had the same feat. He stepped in front of a poorly thrown ball, caught it, and took it to the house. After being ahead 7-6, they were now in cruise control (they were ahead 21-6, for those who can't perform simple math problems).

Indiana, on pace to go to a BCS bowl game for the first time in team history, hosts Illinois next week in one of their annual rivalry games.
