Big Plays, Smothering Defense Lead Indiana to Victory Over Buckeyes

Columbus, OH - The Indiana Hoosiers opened up conference play today on the road against the #4 Ohio State Buckeyes. Heavily favored, the Buckeyes relied on quarterback Terrelle Pryor to carry them to victory. Indiana knew that, and stopped him on almost every play. As a result, the #17 Hoosiers surprised the nation by winning over the Buckeyes 19-14.

"It was a very defensive game," said linebacker Jonathan Green, who recorded 8 tackles and 2 tackles for loss in the game. "We knew coming in that the only way we would win would be by limiting their scoring to 20 points or less, and we succeeded." Added Andre LaGrone, who made a key tackle on 4th and goal to preserve Indiana's 10-0 lead at the end of the half, "Their offense struggled today, and we took advantage of that by making some key tackles and stops. If you take away one or two of our tackles, we would have lost the game."

The fans attending the game knew this was going to come down to the wire, as neither team could get anything going in the first quarter. It took two quarters, but finally one of the teams started to drive the ball. Indiana, relying on the running of Deleon Eskridge, drove down field and scored a touchdown on a 2 yard run. They intercepted a Pryor pass and scored a field goal with a minute left in the half. The Pryor took over, driving down the field thanks in part to a 62 yard pass to receiver Jake Stoneburner. But with 4 seconds left, the Buckeyes had a 4th and goal on the Hoosiers 2 yard line. A run up the middle was stuffed by Andre LaGrone, and Indiana hung on to their 10-0 lead heading into the half.

The 3rd quarter provided uneventful football. It was so bad that neither team got a first down the entire quarter. "I was screaming at our players every time we got the ball because we couldn't do anything," said coach Anthony Thompson. "It was the worst offensive football I've ever seen from these guys." The screaming proved to be of no help, because it only made the Hoosiers play worse. They failed to gain any yards in the last two minutes of the quarter.

Indiana woke up from their slumber in the 4th quarter, driving down field to set up a 41 yard Ewald field goal. Ohio State, still struggling on offense, couldn't do shit. A horrible punt gave Indiana spectacular field position, but they couldn't do anything. That set the scene for possibly one of the greatest field goals in Indiana history. Kicking with a 21 miles per hour tailwind, Ewald rocketed the ball towards the uprights. It just made it over the crossbar. "It was the best kick of my life," said Ewald. "I doubt that I'll ever have a kick that good again." How far was the kick? 59 yards, a new Indiana record.

Ohio State finally started driving again, but Jaamal Berry fumbled the ball on the Indiana 12 yard line, giving the Hoosiers the ball again. Indiana spent four minutes driving down the field, placing Ewald in a position he hasn't been in for a while; a chance to win the game for the Hoosiers by making a field goal. "It was the most nervous I have ever been," said Ewald. "The game was on the line, and I had to make it." The kick was horrible, and it hooked to the left for an apparent miss. But a fierce wind picked up at that moment and blew the ball back between the uprights. Indiana had a 16-7 lead after the kick, virtually ending the game.

The Buckeyes would score a touchdown on their next drive, but it was too late. A failed onside kick gave Indiana possibly its biggest win under coach Anthony Thompson. "If we don't beat Penn State at the end of the year, this will be the biggest win I've ever been a part of," said fullback Don Brown.

Indiana has a bye week next week, and I hope that they will enjoy their week off after this brutal and violent game.

What a win! Ewald has mad skills for the 59 yarder. Could you be like Oregon and go to the Rose after they lose to Boise?

There was with a huge wind going with the kick. Without the wind, he never would have made it. And as it was, it barely made it over the crossbar. But yea, he's a beast. And I hope I can. I think that my only trouble the rest of the season will be Penn State at the end of the year. Not sure if I can beat them, TBH. Thanks for checking in.

The Danger of Drinking and Driving

Guy 1: Sha...Shane, you shouldn't be drinking and steering....driving. You're too....too drunk to drrrrrrive.

Guy 3 (Shane): No..no...no, it's fine. I ccccan make it.

Guy 1: No, no, I inshist. Gi...give me the wheeeel.

Shane: Will, you sure? I thinks you were drinking too....too.

*vomit noise heard in the backseat*

Will: God damn it Donnell, yo....you got it all ovvvvver my pants.

*Shane leans down and crawls to the backseat, and at the same time Will clambers over him to the wheel*

*A 4th guy, who was lying on the floor, suddenly gets up with a start*

Ricky: What...where the fuck am I? Jesus, my head hurts. What am I doing? *climbs up to the middle of the backseat and glances out the window* Will, what are you doing?

Will: Driving to our house.

Ricky: You're going backwards in a one-lane street.

Will: It's not my fault that Shane......Shane passed the apartments.

Ricky: Well pull the fuck over or we're going to get in an accident.

Will: No we won't. All the carsh are pulling over as...as we...we drive--

*a loud crash is heard, followed by screaming*

Players Hurt, Arrested in Accident

Bloomington, IN - A car containing 4 Indiana players was going 80 miles per hour while going backwards on a one-way street outside the Hoosier Heights Apartment Complexes. They collided head-on with a smart car, causing both cars to flip around in the air.

"They're lucky to be alive," said John Livingston, the doctor who attended to their injuries. "The accident could have killed them all. Luckily, most of them were wearing their seat belts, so they didn't receive too much harm."

Donnell Jones, one of Indiana's starting cornerbacks, received very minor damange. He was buckled up in the backseat, and even though he was heavily drunk he managed to cover his head as they started rolling around in the car. "I don't remember exactly what happened," he told reporters outside the hospital, "but I do remember putting my head between my knees when I felt the impact of the collision."

Will Matte, the driver of the vehicle, was heavily drunk as well. The only problem is that Will is not 21 yet. He's twenty, and is not set to hit his twenty-first birthday until December 18th. He snapped his arm in two places upon contact and will be out for the rest of the season because of it. He is receiving charges for manslaughter in the first degree, but I will go into further detail later in the article.

Shane Covington, the 3rd string running back for the Hoosiers, is the whole reason this situation started. He turned 21 on the same day that the Hoosiers upset the previously 4th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. and they were celebrating his birthday at a local bar. He apparently drank the least out of the members of the accident, as he was the only one conscience when they arrived in the hospital. "I didn't want to go overboard on drinking my first time out," he said. "I only had two drinks, and I should have had less. I didn't realize how susceptible I am to getting drunk, so a 'light drink' to others is more then enough for me."

No matter how fine these first three people seem, there is one member of the ride who did not come out of the accident all right. Ricky Stevenson, a member of Indiana's basketball team, died during the accident. He was a highly-touted Freshman point guard, averaging 14 assists and 32 points per game during his high school days. "He was a key member of my recruiting class," said basketball coach Tom Crean, who led Indiana to a National Title appearance last year (they lost to Texas Tech by 1), "I get tears in my eyes just thinking about his tragic death. We will hold a huge funeral for him tomorrow."

The death was caused by Will Matte, who was the person that steered the car backwards in a one-way street. He has been charged with manslaughter along with his DWI and under aged drinking, and he will be having a court hearing in the coming weeks.
