    Redskins waived DT Michael Marquardt.

Marquardt, 27, was signed only to be a camp body at the start of August

      Redskins waived DB Michael Grant.

Grant can run like the wind, but was being tried at safety in camp. It's a position the former Georgia cornerback isn't built for at just 5'10/186.

Clinton Portis will be held out of Washington's preseason finale with a bruised rib.

Portis will travel with the team and probably wouldn't have played anyways in the meaningless exhibition, so the injury clearly isn't serious. He'll end the preseason with 34 yards on 11 carries (3.1 YPC) and no catches.

Jason Campbell has been sacked zero times this preseason, after being sacked 38 times last season.

It's only preseason, of course, but the Redskins' offensive line has been very good in pass protection. The running game has been another story, with Clinton Portis picking up just 34 yards on 11 carries so far. Regardless, it's a good sign for Campbell as he heads into a pivotal season in his career.

Redskins coach Jim Zorn said he will wait until the "last possible minute" to decide whether to keep K Shaun Suisham or K Dave Rayner.

Suisham is the incumbent but Zorn is concerned about his 72 percent accuracy mark from last season. In the preseason, both kickers have been perfect other than a 52-yarder Suisham missed against the Patriots. Whoever kicks better over the next week will be the Redskins' kicker

Beat writer Jason Reid considers former first-round rehab project Mike Williams a "lock" to make the Redskins' final roster.

There is reportedly feeling in the organization that Williams could become a starter "early in the year," despite an up-and-down training camp at best. Jason Campbell has avoided preseason sacks, but this says plenty about Washington's woeful line. Williams has been out of the NFL since 2005.

Albert Haynesworth is still feeling sick and is unlikely to play in Thursday's preseason finale.

Haynesworth missed Monday's practice due to the illness. He probably would have played very little against the Jaguars Thursday anyway. He'll be fine to make his official Redskins debut against the Giants in Week

Redskins coach Jim Zorn said Carlos Rogers' calf injury "is affecting" the cornerback's ability to be prepared for the season.

Rogers has been bothered by the nagging injury for most of camp. Zorn is hoping Rogers can get a full week of practice in next week. The Skins have likely been playing it cautious with Rogers because he's so valuable.

Redskins DT Anthony Montgomery is "very unhappy" about losing his starting job to Albert Haynesworth, according to FOXSports.com.

FOX's John Czarnecki suggests a trade to Carolina, which remains desperate for interior help even after Tuesday's acquisition of Louis Leonard. Montgomery has starting experience and a 6'6/312 frame. However, the Skins are usually in the business of giving up draft picks, not acquiring them

The Washington Post projects D.J. Hackett to miss the cut on the Redskins' final roster.

Santana Moss, Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly, and Antwaan Randle El are locked in. Rookie Marko Mitchell also appears to be. Hackett hasn't had a standout training camp and would need the Skins to carry six receivers to last.

Even if Malcolm Kelly or Devin Thomas eventually passes Antwaan Randle El for the No. 2 receiver job, Randle El will still be on the field plenty.

Randle El can play all three receiver positions and returns punts. While it doesn't sound like Kelly or Thomas will line up across from Santana Moss to start the season, that will likely change during the year. Randle El isn't a quality NFL starter and figures to be bumped into the slot eventually.

Redskins GM Vinny Cerrato is a big "fan" of scatback Anthony Alridge, according to the Washington Post.

Alridge has been fumble and injury prone in August, but the Skins want a change of pace back and are considering keeping him on their 53-man roster. Alridge has 4.2 wheels and can catch passes, and having Cerrato in his camp goes a long way, no matter how poor the GM is at evaluating talent

According to several people in the Redskins organization, Devin Thomas appeared to "disappear mentally for a couple of weeks during the preseason."

His rookie-season immaturity has apparently "resurfaced," which leaves the coaching staff concerned that he may never "get it." Thomas played better last week against New England. He has a higher upside than Malcolm Kelly, but Kelly is "clearly" the Redskins' No. 2 receiver.

Chase Daniel completed 8-of-16 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown and rushed three times for 17 yards against the Jaguars Thursday night.

Daniels started the game horribly. When Colt Brennan, 10-of-14 for 83 yards, left with a hamstring injury, Daniel was forced back in and fared much better in garbage time. Still, the Chase Daniel era is over unless Brennan's hamstring injury is serious.

According to Redskins beat writer Jason Reid, Malcolm Kelly is the clear No. 2 receiver.

Coach Jim Zorn hasn't announced it yet, but Reid says "anyone with half a clue" knows Kelly has beaten out Antwaan Randle El and Devin Thomas for the job. Reid also says to expect to see the Jason Campbell-Kelly combination often, especially in the intermediate passing game. We like Kelly as a flier only in very deep leagues as he's still the fourth option in an inconsistent offense.
