Hub Arkush reported about 35 mintues ago that higher ups in the Bears organization, in preparation for the season possibly spiraling out of control, have begun contacting and making inquiries to some of the bigger named available coaches. Three names that he has heard as being "possible" people the Bears have made inquires to in order to gauge interest, price, etc.are: Shanahan, Cower, and Gruden.

Pretty big stuff right there.
 
Gruden would make absolutely no sense considering he just signed a 5-year exclusive deal with ESPN. Im all for Mike Shannhan or Bill Cowher tho.

Then again Gruden signed that deal before teams got interested in hiring coaches. You could see a lot of openings this year: Chicago, Buffalo, Oakland, Cleveland, Carolina?. If Gruden saw an opportunity to take over a team and he really wanted I have no doubt he'd quit his job at ESPN in a heartbeat.

Basically that 5 year ESPN deal gave him a fall back and job security in case a job in coaching didn't present itself that he couldn't pass up. Now if he turns down coaching gigs or none present themselves(fat chance) he knows he can go back to the booth.
 
It's a good time for Chicago to look for a coach, that job is likely to be the most appealing one out there if Lovie is indeed fired. Decent enough team, owner isn't a nutjob, fans are passionate but aren't stupid. If the openings are Chicago, Oakland, Buffalo, Washington, Cleveland, maybe Tampa, maybe Carolina, and maybe Dallas, Chicago is definitely one or two depending on what you think of the Dallas job...

Will Chicago give Lovie the 11mill he's owed plus Cowers 5-10mil contract? Would be very unlike the Bears of recent years

11 million? What's Lovie's current contract? Sounds like a really bad investment.

Well the owners would most likely be willing to take a short term hit to get a guy like Cower, Gruden, or Shanny in for the long run. Plus if they brought in these guys Angelo would be gone anyways.
 
First time I've heard Kubiak's name on the hot seat but it makes sense given this was supposed to be the year Houston finally broke through..

I'd bet a bucket of lollipops that Shanahan and Kubiak would be a package deal if Houston dismissed him at the end of the year.

Lovie is actually owed 9 mil for next year. In the past the Bears have always done biz on the cheap. So this would be huge, If their play does not improve, and if the finish the season with 6 wins, this could happen.

To me, Shanny makes more sense because of the obvious reasons, but I wouldnt mind either him or Cowher.
 
If Chicago were 7-3, and Jay Cutler had Kurt Warner's number - Chicago fans would be calling for MVP.

Still no mention for Warner, though... But the season isn't over yet.

Just sayin'.
