Harvin to the Colts. I'm not a huge Colts fan, but you can't argue with Manning, Wayne, and Harvin. That's just disturbing.

I think he was high when he took the wonderlic... so the 12 doesn't concern me, now if he is their at 31 I would love to have him in AZ, trade boldin for a mid to lower 1st round pick first... get a HB / Defense then with the 31st take harvin to fill the #2/3 spot...

for QBs the wonderlic does mean something IMO, but for RBs, WRs, DEs, etc... it doesnt mean much, positions like QB, C, MLB and others it matters more

now everyone will bring up Marino and his 15, 15 is a whole lot better than a 6, or how high some QBs have scored and didnt do anything, but you still need talent do go with the wonderlic score

its shows with Young, he hasnt been able to grasp any pro system they throw at him

Yeah. I should have said he had no previous knowledge of a pro-style route tree. he might have run a basic one in high school that was 1-9 or something, but the style of route tree that is run in the pros is much more complicated. I know Florida did a lot of quick reads but they didn't exactly prep those kids for NFL style option routes. They ran a lot of
"turn around and catch the ball" plays.

Harvin actually was in a spread offense in highschool..his highschool coach is now an assistant at WV. Not that it matters, but the highschool teams Harvin was on where very successful and Harvin himself in the state championship game his junior year probably had the greatest performance from a highschool player in Virginia history.

Having lived in the same area that Harvin grew up in I've followed his career and actually know him. I'm not all to surprised about his Wonderlic or rumors of a failed drug test though, because as great of a player Harvin is he has an even greater ego. My wife teaches at his highschool and you wouldn't believe some of the stories. As many have said if I was an NFL team I would first be concerned about his injury history, but also be concerned with his judgment and whether he'd be able to handle what playing in the NFL will provide for him.

Harvin's saving grave though is that he absolutely loves football and wants to be great. He has a drive and determination that IMO almost controls him. I can tell you first hand Harvin has a tremendous work ethic to go along with his talent. I absolutely love Harvin's talent (I'm probably bias) and believe if his head is on straight and used properly (see Reggie Bush or Wes Welker) he'll be a great pro. However, Harvin isn't great at any particular skill....he's not a WR or a RB.....he's simply a weapon that if is used properly can be a very productive pro. He's a good kid and I expect him to do well in the NFL as an explosive play making weapon.

Harvin isn't tall but I wouldn't say he's 'undersized'. He's very strong for a WR, kinda like Steve Smith. I agree with NAHSTE about questioning the type of WR Florida produces (they've all basically sucked). People have been comparing Harvin to Reggie Bush, but I would compare Harvin to Hines Ward. A tough kid who is all about football. I'd be happy if my team drafted him.

The issue with Harvin was that the school administrators had no idea how to handle his stardom. He also was very arrogant and basically only listened to a handful of teachers. Most of the stories aren’t anything juicy and mostly center around sex and him always wanting to work out (routinely skipping class to do both). All in all though he was a good kid that had no idea how to handle his own spotlight, but it appears he’s getting better. I haven’t seen him around these parts in a while though.

Its funny though because after his alleged failed drug test I told my wife and her first words question was, “What is wrong with athletes from this area?” For those who don’t know Mike Vick and Plaxico Burress are also from around here as well.

Depends on the team that takes him.

He has to be coached up, but if a team gets creative and they have a team that executes well, he might be able to succeed. Teams like the Steelers or Eagles or Patriots or Giants would probably get the best football out of Percy Harvin, focusing his play calls to his strengths.

If he goes to my team (the Jags), honestly, he'll probably suck. We haven't developed wide receivers and we proved with Matt Jones that fitting a square peg into a round hole isn't exactly the winning formula in development of a raw receiver.

Hester was fucked as a position player before he stepped foot in Chicago. It really isn't his fault per se, but he was so far behind the curve in terms of technique and instincts at a position before he went pro, it shocks me none that he is real slow to warm up at a position.

Larry Coker and the staff moved the kid everywhere and never let him settle in. Hhe should have been a wide receiver from Day 1, but they fucked around with him at DB for too long and never fully got him situated at wide receiver, often using him in the backfield and never actually giving him plays to run outside of direct snaps of that jazz.

To be fair, the Bears coaching on O isn't exactly stellar either. If DH went elsewhere he might have been coached up better.

Yeah, that's my point. If you are a tweener type player like Harvin or Hester Chicago doesn't exactly have the coaching staff on the offensive side of the ball to really groom you one way or another.

Maybe having a real QB now will help but I'm still not sold the Bears have the coaches needed to teach techniques etc to Hester or a guy like Harvin. Which is why I hope the Bears don't draft him.
