How am I insulting his intelligence. I'm calling him stupid. I'm not saying I expect him to be stupid. I noticed his first wonderlic score being ultra low, noticed he came from a simple college offense and noticed he had trouble with describing a play from the Auburn playbook. And all I've said is it makes me wonder how well he will handle a complex NFL offense. I think that is MORE than a fair statement. In no way is that insulting his intelligence.

Then I say, get the fuck over it so that a rational discussion can take place. One without race coming up in the topic. I didn't bring it up.

It's not a be all end all, but it is an indicator. It's just a tool that contains a statistical error and anomalies. It doesn't say someone is stupid or smart. It's just an indicator. I don't put all my stock in Wonderlic scores. I use other things along with the wondoerlic to come up with opinions and questions about a college recruit.

Tim Tebow won a championship to and I have questions about his ability to play QB in the NFL. The same questions I had about him when he came out of college. Poor throwing mechanics. I don't question his work ethic either. But I don't have much faith him as an NFL QB.

Ya, I don't think much of Tebow either. But I guess I sort of hope he succeeds, because he's a stand-up guy and he's different. Don't like the Broncos, though, so I guess it's sort of counter to my position.

They had a lot of trouble running against GB and a lot of success passing. So I'm not surprised. But I agree, a healthy running game will help them and Newton a great deal. They need time to give Newton a chance to learn more of the offense. Even Rodgers started out in the league only reading half of the field. Something I also noticed was the passing game seemed very simple. Newton seemed to go to one maybe two read, which isn't unexpected from a rookie. Just saying it seemed like a very simple pass offense that GB had trouble with.

I agree. Not just locking down his mistakes, but also give him time to learn more of the Panthers playbook.

I thought someone mentioned previously in this thread that a coach said he was going through all his progressions. I'm not for sure, though. And I'm not going to go through the thread to find it.

In any case, we don't really disagree on anything so far as I can tell from this post, except that I hope he succeeds and you hope he fails because of character issues, and I can understand that. So, ya, I guess we're not really arguing.

This concept in general makes me LOL, but I don't think I've heard it applied directly to Newton. I think most people knew from his time at Auburn that he's very media savvy. I think he comes across as overly rehearsed and disingenuous myself, the smug shit that he is.

21 isn't bad. I think he scored in the single digits and retook it several times with his agent giving him sample wonderlic tests to take. It's the first score that seemed like a red flag. But that's all it is. And how is noticing his bad Woderlic score and the simple offense at Auburn have to do with race? Where in the world did I bring up race? And why did you? However, I will say him stealing some laptops 3 years ago is a non issue for me. I really don't care. I tend to not play morality police with professional athletes. I do believe that people are entitled to make mistakes/stupid decisions and learn from them. Its not a character issue for me, because he's seemed to change from those ways.

What score he had on any test should be irrelevant at this point. Any QB with 400 yards passing in back to back games has at the VERY least a solid grasp of the offense. So that "red flag" should prob be waved off at this point.

I saw that play late in the game where he's flushed out of the pocket, he moves up and seemingly with a quick flick of his arm, he powers that ball probably 40-50 yards downfield on a perfect shot right into the receivers hands while he's running with two DBs.

The kid is awesome.

He just seems put-together to me, not rehearsed, but prepared. I don't want too many podium highlights from him. I don't want to hear about him yelling at reporters or saying anything stupid to detract form his performances.

thats just his youthful body getting away with doing something. You cant live off lucky/improvised junk like that for long at all. Fun to look at and all...but he is getting so many passing yards because they suck at a run game...the Panthers may well be doing what people think the Colts should do. They know they will probably lose, so lets just make the kid the whole offense and get him use to game situations and try to build around it. Being tall might help him avoid a concussion, but his ribs might get real tender before seasons end.
