No matter how well he develops Cutler no routes are going to be ran to perfection.

I honestly don't care. I'm fine with Martz as the OC. I really couldn't care less what the Bears decide to do. I'm just saying people are expecting Martz to come in and make this shitshow look like something special, when I don't think that's the case. He's not working with the greatest or even a good offensive roster and from what I've seen of Martz... how he runs an offense is not going to be ran very well with our current crop of guys.

You're right about the following.

Greg Olsen will be limited.
You will need a few more guys to run a Martz offense (God forbid you bring in a few more guys, right?).
Unless you have Kurt Warner, Jay Cutler will need more time in the pocket.

And your running game will take a backseat.

But the fact is, there's maybe 4 OCs better than Mike Martz, and if Chicago hasn't landed one of them, and they fail to land Martz, they've failed. And right now, Chicago is failing miserably, because Martz has already said numerous times, he is interested in the job, but so far? No phone call.

I don't know if he ever will get a call because Angelo is all thick-skinned this year and not bringing in another "Lovie guy".

Problem with "bringing in" some more guys is they are limited financially and have no draft picks.

He'd do it, too.

Maybe that's part of the problem. Martz has been known to clash with people. He's already been critical of Jay Cutler, so Cutler can't be too pleased with that. And if Cutler is too stubborn or stupid to pick up the offense, Martz certainly wouldn't be afraid to call for a replacement, and Chicago really can't afford to have their ''star qb'' in a competition with Caleb Hanie.

I loled when I heard Cutler is involved in the interviewing process for a new O/C . For any people who live in the area or support the Bears ... is this true? And if so what exactly is the point in letting your QB who has been noted for slacking and ignoring coaches help decide the new O/C? I can't see good things coming from that

A quick note about Martz & TE's...

Martz models his passing game after the old Don Coryell offense. The Rams always had blocking TE's like Ernie Conwell and Brandon Manumaleuna, so Martz would use Faulk or the 4th WR (usually Proehl or later guys like Dane Looker & Mike Furrey) to run the old Kellen Winslow routes.

He didn't have a TE in Detroit, and worked with an out of shape and unmotivated Vernon Davis in SF.

He set school strength records (in spring of 2005) for a tight end in the bench press (465 pounds), power-clean (355 pounds), index (797 pounds) and squat (685 pounds). At the combine, he ran the 40 yard dash in 4.38 seconds. Davis also broad-jumped 10'08", nearly a foot farther than the next-best tight end, Marcedes Lewis.

I'd love to be out of shape.

I was listening to a typically horrible Chicago sportstalk radio show yesterday (Boers & Bernstein), and I cannot understand the bias against Mike Martz becoming the Bears OC.

In typical Boers & Bernstein "logic", they spent the first part of the show bemoaning the lack of quality candidates the Bears have brought in to interview for the OC job, they spend the second part of the show saying that Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith should be fired immediately instead of giving them 1 more 'lame duck' season, and then they are aghast with the possibility of Mike Martz getting the OC job....

"Sure, he's a good OC...but everywhere he's been he wants to become the head coach." HUH? Weren't you guys just talking about how you want Lovie Smith fired and that the Bears haven't brought in any strong OC candidates?

So my question to Bears fans is...why not Mike Martz?

Singletary blew up because Vernon had a personal foul penalty. It had nothing to do with work ethic/shape. Vernon Davis is regarded as one of the biggest workout warriors in the league.

My main gripe is just I don't think we'll be able to get a good vertical passing game out of our WR or our offensive line. That's my main gripe against him. Otherwise, I wouldn't care... at this point he's certainly better than any other idiots they've interviewed.

i think you are putting too much into singletary sending a player to the locker room for mental errors. i wont argue that davis is the next kellen winslow or anything, but the kid has talent. granted he didnt work hard in an offense that should have suited him, but he did have quite a productive year this past season. i think maybe you are takjing his failure during the time martz was there as a slight against martz, and you shouldnt. martz is an offensive genuis, but that team and that head coach were not a fit for his mad stylin's.

Obviously the Bears want Cutler to get along with his coaches, that's their mentality for better or worse. Which is also why he's been sitting in on interviews. I'm not saying I agree with it, and it's only gonna be a one year relationship most likely anyways.

Yeah... god forbid they hire a good O/C like Martz. Cutler deserves his ego slammed .
