CB Deon Weatherford

Oregon State continued its success on the recruiting trail as four-star CB Deon Weatherford from Redondo Beach, California has committed with the Beavers. Weatherford is rated the 8th best CB of this year's class. Weatherford is a great cover corner but does struggle in press coverage and is undersized at 5'9" and 166 pounds. Oregon State also received an in-state commitment from ATH Nate Richardson from Gar Home-Whitford, Oregon. Richardson is an interesting prospect as he is 6'4 and 247 pounds. Richardson is actually quite fast for his size and runs good routes and is very athletic. He might end up being another talented WR or maybe a TE. He will be somebody to watch for.

Chris: Welcome to Ann Arbor where the No. 22 Michigan Wolverines host the No. 5 Miami Hurricanes. Miami has to be wondering right about now why they would schedule a game in late November in Michigan as it is pretty cold for these players from warm Florida. It has been a while since we've been out here for a big game but the Wolverines are experiencing a resergence under Rich Rodriguez. (Crowd cheers.) It's taken them a while but it looks like Michigan is back. (Crowd cheers some more.) You would not have known that though after what the rival Buckeyes did to Michigan last week. (Crowd boos.) Ohio State came in here and rolled the Wolverines 41-10. Now they will face a Hurricane team that has already clinched a spot in the ACC championship and still has an outside chance at a BCS championship. They will need a lot of help though.

It does look like Michigan might get back QB Steven Threet. Our own Erin Andrews has more on that. Erin...

Erin: Thanks Chris. That's right. I've been informed by the trainers that Threet is listed as questionable for today's game with that high ankle sprain. It will be a game-time decision for Rich Rodriguez. If Threet can't go today, then that will leave QB Justin Feagin to do the signal calling. Of course, Miami is still without their starting QB Jacory Harris with that torn shoulder and QB Taylor Cook will be the starter. Back to you guys.

Chris: Thanks for the report Erin. Well guys, what do you think about this one today. Do the Wolverines have a chance in this one?

Kirk: I really don't think so Chris. (Crowd boos.) Miami is in the same talent level as a Ohio State and we saw what my Buckeyes did to Michigan last week. (Crowd really boos.)

Lee: We know you have to pick against Michigan Kirk but come on. You don't need to rub it in. That being said, about the only chance that Michigan has in this one is for the weather to create a ton of turnovers. The weather probably will be a factor here in late November in Michigan today. I think it will be closer than the experts think, but come on sweetheart. Miami wins today. (Lee puts on the Miami headgear to a chorus of boos.)

Eugene, OR - No. 8 Oregon State was met with a hostile Autzen Stadium today in the Civil War. The Beavers came into this in-state rivalry game ranked in the Top Ten but one would never know it after seeing the aura of confidence inside Autzen Stadium. There were signs like "Overrated!" and "Have fun in El Paso!" all throughout the stadium. There is a slim chance that Oregon State could end up in the Sun Bowl with a loss to Oregon and a loss by Cal or USC. However, a win for Oregon State would keep the Beavers' slim BCS dreams alive. Oregon State has not looked good on offense since the debacle in Los Angeles against USC. The last time Oregon State played in Autzen Stadium, Oregon dismantled them 55-13 so it would be important for OSU to get off to a quick start. A freak snow storm in late November brought quite a bit of snow and a cold 22 degree temperature at kickoff.

Autzen was rocking from the opening kickoff and OSU FS Matt Arnold trying to keep with that intensity was the first victim as he tried to make a hit on Oregon HB#1, but suffered bruised ribs that sidelined him 2 quarters. However, the first break of the game went to Oregon State when MLB Will Darkins picked off Oregon QB Darron Thomas. The Beavers took advantage of the opportunity with an impressive, long, methodical drive finished off with a 12-yard touchdown run by HB Jacquizz Rodgers to silence the loud Autzen crowd temporarily as the Beavers took a 7-0 lead.

The momentum continued to side with OSU as Oregon was forced to punt. However, all that Oregon State had gained was given back when OSU QB Bryan Rossner tried to fit a ball into WR Brian Herring. The ball was deflected in the air and intercepted by Oregon CB#21. Not long after the turnover, Thomas threw a perfectly executed screen to HB#1. With a convoy of blockers and some impressive speed, HB#1 easily found the end zone on the 26-yard touchdown reception to tie the game 7-7 and awaken the crowd heading into the 2nd quarter.

Oregon State was able to keep the momentum gained from the Ducks from overriding them as Rossner led a nice drive but could only manage a 33-yard field goal as the Beavers were now up 10-7. On the ensuing possession for Oregon, offensive coordinator Chip Kelly got the best of OSU defensive coordinator Mark Banker on a fly sweep to WR Lance Jones. The Oregon WR came across and took the handoff, received tremendous blocks that opened the entire side of the field, and Jones took it to the house for a 73-yard touchdown run to put Oregon on top 14-10. The huge play brought Autzen to a frenzy.

The Beavers really needed to get something going and Rossner was again able to get his team into field goal position but kicker Kevin Smith hooked the kick wide left. Fortunately, the OSU defense was able to hold Oregon to a punt or so it would seem. Oregon head Mike Belloti decided to attempt another fake punt against Oregon State. This one was close as the pass was completed but the receiver was tackled just short of the first down. The Beavers looked like they dodged a bullet.

Oregon State was unable to establish a running game and found itself in a 3rd and long situation again. Rossner was unable to find anybody open and decided to scramble for the first down. The Hawaian QB made his way to the yellow line, where he was met with Oregon FS#44, and attempted a spin move which proved to be a big mistake as FS#44 knocked the ball loose for a fumble which the Ducks recovered to another raucous ovation from Autzen Stadium.

The OSU defense came up with a big stop as Oregon was only able to attempt a 51-yard field goal which was kicked wide right. The Beavers tried to strike downfield and get a big play. Rossner threw deep to WR Brian Herring. Herring jumped up between three defender, had his hands on the ball but could not make the catch and Oregon FS#44 came down with a tremendous catch for an interception.

The Ducks had very little time left on the clock and the OSU defense needed to come up with another big stop. Oregon QB Darron Thomas led a fantastic drive and then with only a few seconds left in the half threw deep into the corner of the end zone where WR Tony Houston came down with the ball right in front of the elite OSU CB David Ross's face for a 22-yard touchdown with only one second left on the clock. Autzen Stadium was balistic as the Ducks were up 21-10 going into halftime with a chance to pull off the huge rivalry upset.

The Beavers came out in the second half and tried to get the running game going but were unsuccessful, leading to another Rossner interception for Oregon CB#21. Fortunately, the OSU defense forced a quick punt. Unfortunately for Oregon State QB Bryan Rossner could not do any better as he threw another interception. This time it was Oregon ROLB#52 who was reading the eyes of Rossner for an easy interception. The Ducks would take advantage of the turnover to get a 39-yard field goal and take a 24-10 lead.

Autzen was as loud as ever and it was quite apparent Rossner was rattled. The Beavers' offense was non-existent as they punted after a three and out. It would take little time for the Ducks to strike again when QB Darron Thomas found WR Tony Houston again. Houston caught the ball five yards short of the end zone but fought forward against FS Matt Arnold until he was brought down just as he crossed the end zone for a 17-yard touchdown. The Ducks were now up big 31-10.

Just when it appeared Oregon State was dead in the water and had no chance, Rossner playfaked up the middle to HB Marvin Quinn, then threw over the middle to a crossing WR James Rodgers who took it to the house for a 52-yard touchdown to bring Oregon State back in the game as the Beavers were now down 31-17.

As the game moved into the 4th quarter, Oregon punted after a three and out. Oregon SS Victor Owens was lost to back spasms on the next possession for Oregon State. Owens will probably be unable to play for three weeks. Oregon State would find itself facing a 4th and 3 at the Oregon 41-yard line. The Beavers had no choice but to go for it and Rossner was able to connect with WR Brian Herring over the middle for the first down to keep the drive alive. Rossner would lead the Beavers brilliantly into the red zone. At the 5-yard line, Rossner playfaked to Quinn, rolled out and took it in himself for a 5-yard touchdown to make a one-score game. The Ducks were now only up 31-24 with 3:22 remaining in the game.

Then the OSU defense came up with another huge stop as the Ducks were forced to punt. The Beavers got the ball back with 1:59 remaining at their own 34-yard line. It would all come down to this drive. Could Rossner keep the Beavers' BCS dreams alive? Rossner would be sacked on back-to-back plays on 2nd and 3rd down.. They would be two of the eventual seven sacks on the day for the Ducks' defense which was a big reason for the lack of offensive production for Oregon State. After the back-to-back sacks, the Beavers found themselves with a 4th and 24 deep on their own side of the field. Oregon State could only hope for a miracle. Rossner dropped back to pass, looked deep to Herring but could not get the ball off again as freshman Oregon CB Clay Matthew flew in unblocked and threw Rossner to the ground for the third sack in a row. The Duck defenders celebrated as Autzen Stadium was in pandamonium. The Oregon offense came in and sealed the deal, running the clock out and dismantling Oregon State's BCS dreams.

Ann Arbor, MI - Michigan QB Justin Feagin's 65-yard touchdown was not enough to lift Michigan past Miami. The big QB option run by Feagin did give the Wolverines a short-lived lead but Miami came back. However, Miami was unable to make the knockout blow as Michigan would have many chances to win the game in the second half but came up short too many times. Miami keeps its slim chance at a BCS championship alive.

If you look at my stats from the games, you'll see that I can't really run that well. Sometimes I have good games and sometimes I totally get shut down. However, my RBs are not the fastest in the world and Oregon State runs more of a pro-style offense so it is more methodical in nature.

Four-star WR from Nebraska City, Nebraska has joined the Beavers. Oregon State stole Baker right inside Husker country from the top ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. The 5th rated WR is fast, runs good routes, and has made some highlight catches in his high school career. Baker will likely compete for playing time next year with Brian Herring, Marcus Sullivan, and Alex Whitehead.

Chris: Welcome to South Bend, Indiana for a huge rivalry game between USC and Notre Dame. We thought for most of the season that these teams would be playing for a possible national title earlier but it has not panned out that way. However, the winner today should guarantee themselves a spot in a BCS bowl game. The loser may not be so fortunate so there is still a lot to play for today. I welcome in Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit. Guys, what's your feelings on today's game?

Kirk: I really think this will be a terrific matchup today. I think that if Cal could get the USC in Berkeley then certainly the Irish can get them today here in South Bend. (Crowd cheers.) Cal was able to use a great running game with Heisman frontrunner HB Langston Jackson but Notre Dame has a fantastic duo in HBs Jonas Gray and David Olson. That duo will lead the Irish to a close victory today. (Crowd cheers.)

Lee: Kirk, I'm hearing that Notre Dame is going to wear their green jerseys today. (Crowd cheers.) You know what that means? It means the Irish will choke big today. (Crowd boos.) [size=+1](6) Notre Dame wins close one over (7) USC 20-17 in frigid South Bend[/size]

South Bend, IN - It was a frigid 8 degrees in South Bend where Notre Dame was able to kick what became the 39-yard game-winning field goal with 5:48 remaining in the game. It was the Irish defense that allowed the victory. A huge play made by ND FS#30 tied the game 17-17 when he jarred a ball loose from USC WR DJ Shoemate that was returned for a touchdown. USC CB#22 made a spectacular 55-yard punt return but the Trojans could not capitalize on the big play when a short field goal attempt went wide right. USC QB Aaron Corp can kiss his Heisman chances goodbye as he only manged a mediocre 148 yards passing and a rushing touchdown. More importantly, Corp was unable to lead his team on a scoring drive when they needed it most. It was ND QB Dayne Crist that overshadowed Corp as Crist threw for 327 yards and a touchdown in a victory that should guarantee Notre Dame a spot in a BCS bowl. USC will likely end up in the Holiday Bowl.

[size=+1]#7 Florida (11-1) vs #2 Alabama (11-1)[/size]

Chris: Welcome to Atlanta for the SEC Championship where we have a rematch of the same two teams from last year. Last year it was Florida that had no problem taking care of business against Alabama last year. (Mixed cheers and boos.) Now it is Alabama that comes in as the favorite and a chance at a national title. In fact, both the SEC and Big 12 championship games will help decide who will be playing in New Orleans for the BCS National Championship. Out in Kansas City, Texas Tech will play No. 1 Nebraska for the Big 12 title, but for Nebraska it will be a chance to get to the title game.

No two teams will be more excited to see Nebraska and Alabama fall today than USF and Cal. Cal likely needs both Nebraska and Alabama to fall today to give themselves a chance at the championship while South Florida could get in with either Nebraska or Alabama losing today. No. 5 Miami would need both Nebraska and Alabama to lose, win the ACC championship over No. 24 Clemson, and hope the voters jump them over Cal. That is a lot to hope for if you're a Miami fan. Alright guys, time to make your picks for today. First off, the ACC Championship, Miami and Clemson.

Kirk: Miami will destroy Clemson today.

Lee: I agree with you but I think it will closer than the experts think. Definitely not enough for the Canes to jump Cal though.

Chris: Alright, you guys are both in agreement on that one but how about the Big 12 Championship? Nebraska or Texas Tech?

Kirk: I have to go with Nebraska. Nebraska has the top defense in the country and will stop Texas Tech's best passing offense.

Lee: Again, I'm in full agreement. I mean this is a rematch of sorts. The first time these two met, the Huskers beat them 28-7. I don't see any reason to doubt Nebraska. The black-shirts are officially back. Go Huskers!

Chris: Alright, that leaves the big one here. (Crowd starts going wild.) Are the Crimson Tide in the championship game or does Florida dash their dreams?

Kirk: I really think that the Gators are still the best team in the nation. They did lose to an unranked Georgia team but that is a huge SEC rivalry and the Gators just didn't play well in that game. I'm going with the Gators. Urban Meyer will pull out all the plays today to win the game.

Lee: You still don't respect Alabama? They've gone 12-0 in the SEC! The Tide will have a great game today and grind out a big victory and take home that SEC crown. Then we'll see Alabama in New Orleans for a championship. (Lee puts on the Crimson Tide headgear to a mixed but loud response from the crowd.) Go Bama! Roll Tide!
