Yeah, they sure did. The entire Big Ten did well. Wisconsin beat Nebraska. Penn State beat Florida. Northwestern beat Auburn. Indiana over Nevada. Michigan lost to Virginia Tech though. I'm sure you won't shed a tear over that one. But man, Notre Dame destroyed Miami. Not only did Cal get blown out but USC got beat pretty good by Texas A&M in the Holiday Bowl. Not so good for the Pac-10.

Chris: Welcome to New Orleans where we will settle this little BCS championship game here in the Super Dome. (Crowd cheers.) We've already seen some crazy scores in these BCS bowls this year. The lower ranked team won every BCS bowl. Some more decisively than others. Ohio State dominated Cal and Heisman HB Langston Jackson in the Rose Bowl. Notre Dame destroyed Miami on their homefield at the Orange Bowl. The Fiesta Bowl was won by Texas Tech over Virginia in convincing fashion. And finally, just a few days ago in this very stadium Wisconsin won a nail-biter over Nebraska. So it has been another unpredictable bowl season.

So what can we expect from the David and Goliath match up we have tonight with South Florida taking on Alabama? (Crowd cheers.) Nobody could have predicted this at the beginning of the season but it has worked out for both of these teams. Both finished undefeated. Alabama just crushed Florida to claim the SEC crown and Nick Saban is looking at another BCS championship. (Bama crowd cheers.) On the other side, we all thought another Florida team would be back here in the championship game. But it would not be the Gators. No, it would not be the Hurricanes. And no, it would not be the Seminoles. It would be the Bulls. South Florida did not even have a football team 20 years ago. Now they are playing in the National Championship game. What a job Jim Leavit has done. (USF crowd cheers.) I welcome in Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit. So what do you guys think about this one?

Kirk: This is a much more interesting matchup than people think. Many are expecting a blowout. But I don't see it that way. USF also finished undefeated. But their competition was no where near what Alabama faced in the SEC. I just don't see how the Bulls will compete against Bama's defense. Not to mention, the Tide just blew out Florida and I don't think South Florida is anywhere near as talented as the Gators. (USF crowd boos.) I have to pick Alabama to win convincingly.

Lee: Kirk, do you know how excited this South Florida crowd is for this game? (USF crowd cheers.) Alabama better not be reading the press clippings. They have not won anything yet but the SEC. They have to win on the field. South Florida has a tremendous QB by the name of BJ Daniels. He has thrown for over 3500 yards and 36 touchdowns. He can run too, boy. Bama is still without their starting QB Star Jackson and have to go with QB Clay Parquet who has filled in well but he does not have the experience of Daniels.

Kirk: Coach. It sounds like you're going with the Bulls. Don't tell me...

Lee: That's right sweetheart. (Bama crowd boos.) I say this Bama team is overconfident and USF is going to hit them in the mouth right out of the gate and before the Tide can do anything about it, it will be too late. Yeah, yeah, this South FLorida team has heard all about the best defense in the nation that they will face today but that Bull defense is good too. Don't forget USF has the 2nd ranked defense in the nation. Kirk, you might think I'm crazy but I'm going with South Florida! (Lee puts on the Bull headgear to a mixed reception by the crowd.) Go South Florida! Go Bulls!

New Orleans, LA - This had to be the most unlikely BCS championship matchup that anybody could have predicted at the beginning of the year. Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and USC looked like the teams that were most likely to get to New Orleans but it was not to be. Florida fell to Georgia, Ohio State and Oklahoma fell to a brutal schedule, and USC fell to Cal. There would not be any argument as the BCS got two undefeated teams for the championship game. This would be Alabama head coach Nick Saban's second time in the BCS championship as they defeated Oklahoma the last time. South Florida came into New Orleans as one of the largest underdogs in BCS history. Alabama crushed Florida in the SEC championship to get here and South Florida took care of business against a weak Big East. Now, it was time to settle it on the field.

South Florida had the opening possession. USF QB B.J. Daniels was able to scramble for a first down, but that was the extent of their success on the opening possession of the game as USF was forced to punt. Alabama got a big run by HB Mark Ingram for a 20-yard gain to set up the Crimson Tide at midfield. However, the Tide were also forced to punt, but Saban called a fake punt which was successful when the upback took the snap and powered forward for a first down. The early gamble by Saban payed off as Bama QB Clay Parquet connected with freshman WR Edwin Newsome in the flat for a 6-yard touchdown putting the Crimson Tide on top 7-0.

South Florida had even less success on their next possession as they were forced to punt after a three and out. Alabama did not fare any better though as they also punted after a three and out. On the ensuing possesssion for South Florida, the Bulls were able to move the ball. However, the drive stalled just past midfield. USF head coach Jim Leavitt also decided a to fake a punt. However, it was 4th and 21 because of a Bama sack. The punter threw deep over the middle where it was easily intercepted by Bama CB#9.

However, Alabama was unable to take advantage of the turnover. In fact, Bama QB Clay Parquet threw a terrible pass over the middle which was picked off by USF FS#46 as the game moved to the second quarter.

South Florida was only able to get within field goal range. Well, maybe not as the 54-yard field goal attempt hit off the cross bar. Both offenses continued to struggle as Alabama punted after a three and out. Then the crowd dressed in crimson was brought back to life when Bama CB#9 got his second interception of the game. CB#9 had a huge game in the SEC championship and continued his incredible play right into the BCS championship. However, Alabama was only able to attempt a 53-yard field goal which was kicked too far to the right.

On the next possession, USF had something going but then QB B.J. Daniels, running an option decided to pitch way too late in traffic. The ball was deflected on the pitch but a USF offensive lineman picked up the ball and returned it all the way to the 12-yard line on a very fortuitous play for South Florida. The play ended the monotany and brought the stadium back to life. Finally, the Bulls were able to score when QB B.J. Daniels ran it in himself when he could not find anybody open on a 1-yard touchdown scramble to tie the game 7-7.

Now, maybe the game would get entertaining but Alabama continued to struggle on offense as they punted after another three and out. South Florida seemed to have momentum on their side. Daniels was able to hook up with his TE#92 for a 31-yard gain to set up the Bulls at the Bama 8-yard line. However, the Crimson Tide defense stepped up to the plate and was able to shut down USF at the 1-yard line. USF HB Demitrus Murray was stuffed right in front of the goal line. South Florida was forced to kick a 20-yard chipshot that went through the uprights. South Florida was now up 10-7 at the end of the first half. Alabama fans were getting nervous. The Crimson Tide offense was completely out of rhythm. QB Clay Parquet was having a terrible game as he was throwing for a 38 percent completion percentage. That would need to change if Alabama was going to win.

As the second half got underway, the Super Dome was hoping for a more eventful second half. It sure did not start any more eventful as Alabama was forced to punt again. The defenses continued to dominate as USF QB B.J. Daniels threw another terrible pass over the middle that was intercepted by Bama MLB Justin Calhoun. The Tide were now at the USF 7-yard line with 1st and goal. However, the Bulls forced a field goal on a terrific goal line stand to tie the game 10-10.

The stadium was brought back to life when Daniels was able to connect with WR Taylor Rawls for a 22-yard gain over the middle of the field for USF. Daniels would attempt to take advantage of the play when he threw the ball up to WR Patrick Richardson but Bama CB#9 lept forward for his third interception. However, his jump was late and the ball fell in the hands of Richardson where he sped into the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown. South Florida now took the lead 17-10.

The momentum was really in favor of South Florida and the Bull fans were really put in a frenzy when USF CB George Baker picked off stuggling Bama QB Clay Parquet. However, USF was unable to take advantage as they punted after a three and out. It was only a matter of time before Alabama made a play and that is what they finally did when Parquet threw to a wide open WR Erik Durbin, who took it all the way for a 64-yard gain.

Alabama was now inside the red zone as the 3rd quarter came to an end. The ball would go to HB Mark Ingram who was able to leap into the end zone on a 4-yard touchdown run to tie the game 17-17. Now, we had a game and there was not a single person sitting down in the Super Dome.

On the kickoff, USF kick returner George Baker ran into Bama SS Mark Barron who laid the lumber as Baker was decleated and the ball was fell to the turf where it was picked up by Bama SS Wesley Neighbors who took it to the house. The Crimson Tide fans went nuts as Alabama regained the lead 24-17 on the special teams play.

South Florida seemed to have the game in hand and now within just a few minutes they found themselves down by seven points. The Bulls had a drive going until it was stopped when Daniels threw another interception. It was Bama SS Mark Barron that came up with another turnover for the Tide. However, Alabama was forced to punt after another three and out.

South Florida was starting to feel the pressure but USF QB B.J. Daniels had something going as the Bulls made it to midfield where the drive stalled. The Bulls faced a 4th and 5 at midfield. Daniels threw a ball into the flat where the receiver was drilled by Bama SS Mark Barron short of the first down marker for a big stop for the Tide.

This time the Tide took advantage of the field position as QB Clay Parquet hit WR Brandon Gibson in the end zone for a 6-yard touchdown to put the Tide ahead 31-17 with only 2:38 left in the game.

USF QB B.J. Daniels was feeling the pressure as he was pressed to throw another interception. However, the Bulls defense forced a Bama 50 yard field goal that was just wide left. USF would get the ball back with 1:41 remaining. Daniels took the opportunity and marched the Bulls quickly down the field but time was running out. Daniels would connect with WR Patrick Richardson on a 3-yard touchdown to make it 31-24 lead for Alabama but there was only :07 left in the game.

South Florida would need a football miracle. The onside kick was attempted but Alabama came down with the ball. Parquet came in and kneeled the ball from the victory formation as the Crimson Tide celebrated an undefeated season and a BCS championship victory. The Alabama Crimson Tide are your 2011-2012 BCS National Champions.

Yep, Cal and Virginia were very good this season. The only other team to beat Cal besides Ohio State in the Rose Bowl was another OSU. That's right. Oregon State. Biggest win of the season. Too bad we couldn't do the same against USC and Oregon. Oh well, there is always next season.

Arizona has decided to part ways with Mike Stoops after a 4-8 season. The Wildcats have not performed up to expectations under his tenure as head coach. It was only a matter of time before Stoops would be out. It only took a week for the University of Arizona to decide on their next coach. USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian accepted the job. Sarkisian was optimistic on the future of the program, "I really see this program as a hidden gem in the Pac-10 that is just waiting to get back to the former desert swarm of the past. We'll get it turned around."

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy may be a man but he has not been a very good coach as the Cowboys finished with a 3-9 record this year. Oklahoma State is now a 1-star program as Gundy has run the program into the ground with a horrible last few seasons. Stillwater will turn to Tulsa for their new coach as Todd Graham has accepted the position as the new OSU head coach.

I just change the playbooks and coaching philosophies of the teams that have coaching changes. I figure that if a team is sucking for a long time then they would probably make changes eventually. I'm not sure if the changes only affect the sim games or if they also affect the games I play and watch.

Rossner should be back along with Quinn next year unless they decide to make a really dumb decision and enter the NFL draft. I'll try and get a recruiting update up tonight. No promises though.
