Yeah, and those two movies are Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (most disappointing sequel not named Matrix Reloaded or Spidey 3) and Alice in Wonderland (which Depp was the worst part of).

As NAHSTE said, Sales don't mean shit when talking about quality, especially in the film industry.

Just to shoot more holes in the "Gross = quality" theory. You ever think there's a reason all of those movies in the top ten came out post 2001? (save for one, 1997's Titanic, with guess who? Leo fuckin Dicaprio!)

Tickets being nearly double what they were 20 years ago might have something to do with it, but I'm sure they only charge that much because Johnny Depp is so good.

J Edgar kind of killed the whole consistency, but that's not really DiCaprio's fault. He played the part well, but Eastwood's boring direction and over use of makeup tainted the performance.

Django Unchained will be fap-worthy for QT and DiCaprio fans like me.

The Great Gatsby may wind up as J Edgar esque. Hopefully Luhrmann's over-stylization won't hurt him.

The Wolf of Wall Street is going to push DiCaprio over the top, I'll bet. Back with Scorsese, brilliant source material and an EXCELLENT supporting cast so far. I like his chances at solidifying his mark as one of the tops of the food chain.

Ironically J Edgar was one of Dicaprios best performances in one of his worst films.

Edit: Also two actors that could be on there way to surpassing DiCaprio are Michael Fassbender and Ryan G. Not only have they killed it the last 5 years, but both have some great looking future projects. It helps both of them seem to care more about interesting roles than easy money. That's the exact philosophy DiCaprio used to rise to the top.

I would argue Ben Foster if he'd get his head out of his ass and not make shitbirds like that crappy space movie a few years back and The Mechanic. Dude was a scene stealer in 30 Days of Night, 3:10 to Yuma, and Alpha Dog. The Messenger was pretty solid too.
