Indeed. He killed them. I also mentioned the Messenger. The only role Fassbender has impressed me with was Hunger. I wouldn't exactly call Haywire a breakout performance.

The Academy is pretty predictable with their nominations, so there are certain actors who will almost always receive a nomination if they make an Oscar-bait movie. Today, IMO they'd be (off the top of my head) Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Daniel Day Lewis, Sean Penn and Leonardo DiCaprio. Maybe Johnny Depp.

I would argue Ben Foster if he'd get his head out of his ass and not make shitbirds like that crappy space movie a few years back and The Mechanic. Dude was a scene stealer in 30 Days of Night, 3:10 to Yuma, and Alpha Dog. The Messenger was pretty solid too.

Foster has potential, but he sucks at picking roles. I was rooting for him in Contraband and spoiler alert, he winds up as a bad guy.

Agreed. I'd say he's so overlooked because most of his work is in foreign films.

I guess. He's been nominated by The Academy 6 times and won Best Actor in a Lead Role a few years ago for Crazy Heart. Didn't get nominated in 2011 but he wasn't in any movies either. He was nominated in 2009 and 2010.
