Love DiCaprio, but don't think he's clear cut #1. I'm a big Depp fan - amazing range. Whoever said Clooney, no way. I like him but he doesn't act as much as he does portray the George Clooney persona.

Crowe & Daniel Day Lewis, good choices both.

While I can't say I've seen some of the movies in between that look like shit (Celebrity, Don's Plum, The Man in the Iron Mask). And there are some shitty movies that I have seen (The Beach, Romeo + Juliet, The Quick and the Dead), but it's been 10 years since any of these movies have come out.

It doesn't hurt that most of his movies he's worked with some of the best directors in the game [Martin Scorsese (Shutter Island, The Departed, The Aviator, Gangs of New York); Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road); Steven Spielberg (Catch Me If You Can); Christopher Nolan (Inception), Ridley Scott (Body of Lies)] and he is also the single reason why Titantic was the highest grossing movie of all time for 12 years.

And while, yes, some of these movies have their faults, none of them are because of DiCaprio. Actually, the best part of all his movies are usually the performance he gives. He has the most consistent resume in the acting game right now, hands down.

I liked Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Inception more than Leo.
I liked Mark Wahlberg in The Departed more than Leo.
I liked Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York more than Leo.

Ive never been a fan of Leo, he somehow manages to have a Boston accent in a lot of his movies and I was preprogrammed to hate Boston accents.

Thoughts on some dudes being mentioned...

-Every George Clooney movie, ever, has sucked. Anyone who likes either O Brother Where Art Thou or Solaris can't be my friend. And should probably die.
Up in the Air, Michael Clayton, Syriana, Burn After Reading, Good Night and Good Luck, From Dusk Till Dawn, Three Kings...in sum, go fuck yourself.

-Denzel Washington plays the same alpha male role in every movie he's in. Incredibly overated, and disqualified. I like some of his movies, but that doesn't make him a great actor.

-Anyone who mentions Nicholas Cage, and is being serious, needs to exit thread. It's cool if you dig Gone in 60 Seconds or 8MM (I love 8MM), but you just don't get it. I like The Naked Gun, but that doesnt make Leslie Neilson a master thespian.

-Leo was FUCKING AWESOME is The Departed, which is in a dead heat for my favorite movie of all time (w/Goodfellas). Possibly the greatest piece of acting work i've ever seen. He was that good. HOWEVER, I have never been close to that impressed by him before or since. To be fair, he does shit that I would never even consider sitting through, like The Aviator, so what do I know, if i'm not watching?

-Bale went in the shitter when he started doing mainstream schlock like the awful Batman movies and the stupid Terminator garbo. He had a five year run of TREMENDOUS before he went all comic book/blockbuster. I'd like to see more stuff like American Psycho, The Machinist, and the incredibly underated and flat out awesome The Prestige.

-Edward Norton & Sean Penn always deserve mention, although Penn can go fuck himself with the political shit. No one cares, Spicoli. Go make a movie, dipshit.

-Brad Pitt is a terrible actor, and all the evidence you need is Seven. Watch the closing scene, where Pitt & Morgan Freeman are taking Kevin Spacey to the open field to find Paltrow's head. Pitt is FUCKING BRUTAL, on a high school play level, and is outclassed by two true pro's....AND FREEMAN DOESNT EVEN HAVE A LINE. Seriously, Freeman DOESNT SPEAK, and out acts Pitt. Pitt is abysmal, I cant understand how anyone thinks he's talented.

-Speaking of which, no KEVIN SPACEY love? Yeah, he's a "closet" fudge packer (worst kept secret ever), but who cares. He's great.

Ben Foster is probably my favorite right now even after Pandorum. He just steals movies like he did in 30 Days of Night and 3:10 to Yuma.
