Whats intriging is the way the division is panning out. You have Boston with a decent lead, whilst you are tight on the Yankees tail in the Wildcard race. Then you have at least 1 team from the Central right there with you to.... how many wins are you projecting to win the Wildcard?

I think I have no chance of catching Boston and New York is still 5-6 games ahead of me and picking up momentum, I think that I won't be able to catch them or the team that doesn't win the Central.
Wildcard team will need at least 90+ wins to make it I think, just too much good competition, especially with the chance that teams like the Tigers and A's make a charge

Lane injured in Double-A, could end career

MANCHESTER, NH (AP) -- "I don't know what to say right now... It sucks."

Jason Lane's face was wet from recent tears, minutes after learning he would not be able to play baseball again in 2009. While diving for a ball in left field during a May 13 game, Lane came down on his left arm causing a brutal scene that has become Youtube legend. He was carted off the field in Manchester and went for MRIs at world famous Dr. James Andrews' clinic during the Double-A All Star Break.

The results he got back were not positive.

"I broke my wrist, my lower forearm and three fingers on my left arm," Lane said," Dr. Andrews said I'd need at least eight months to recover and I doubt the Jays will hold a roster spot for me that long."

Indeed, Lane's performance in Double-A had been decreasing with each month with a final batting average of .228 with 3 home runs and 11 RBIs. A former Houston Astro and New York Yankee, Lane had 65 career home runs including a 26 homer output in 2004 while starting in left field for the 'Stros. He had hoped to be able to regain that 2004 form for the Jays and had been in competition for the DH spot in Spring Training, a spot ultimately won by Kevin Millar.

"We wish Jason the best in his recovery and we thank him for all of his contributions to this organization." Jays G.M. J.P. Riccardi said yesterday.

CHICAGO, IL-- "Records are wiped clean after the All Star Break and we need to make sure we have close to the same record in the second half as in the first half."

Those words, said by Chicago Cubs G.M. Jim Hendry before a news conference on Sunday would be a prequel to the announcements of two trades that significantly bettered the team.

First, the Cubs traded minor league catcher Welington Castillo to the Seattle Mariners for journeyman left hander Tyler Walker, he of the 5.76 ERA in 31 apperances this season. A former San Francisco Giant, Walker had accumilated a 1-7 record for the major's worst team but expects much better things in Chicago.

"I hate to blame anyone, but it's not hard to realize Seattle doesn't field that great of a team so, I believe my play was partly attributed to that." Walker said while wearing his new number 85 Cubs jersey.

The second deal sent Cubs top prospects Josh Vitters and Andrew Cashner to the Phildelphia Phillies for prospect Dominic Brown and relief pitcher Ryan Madson. Madson, considered to have some of the best stuff in the NL, had been having a career season, going 6-2 with a 1.79 ERA for the Phils in 43 apperances. Brown had been batting .217 with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs while filling in for the injured Jason Werth in right field. He was sent down to the Cubs' Triple-A affiliate in Iowa to make room for Walker.

"We think that these trades improved our team a lot and in the long run, will go a long way to help us win a championship." An enthusiastic Hendry said.
