Watching through the rest of DREAM.9. Good show. Couple of surprising results, obviously.

The Super Hulk tournament was just silly. Kawajiri/Calvancante was a snoozefest. Yamamoto/Warren was decent, yet disappointing. Miller/Jacare was a NC. Imanari/Fernandes was a total snoozefest.

Maeda/Takaya was pretty good.

The only entertaining fight was Cullum/Tokoro.

Not sure how that equates to a 'good show,' but hey, to each his own.

Love the freak fights. Especially since they have some legit fighters like Mousasi and Minowa in there.

Thought the Kawajiri-Calvacante fight was pretty solid. Not amazing, but pretty good. I thought the Yamamoto-Warren fight was really good. The fight itself was good, plus add in the context of Kid coming back and Warren going for the upset...

All the HUGE beastly guys fought guys half there size. Would have been far more interesting to see JUST the monstrosities fight each other.

btw wtf was with Soko pounding that guy after the ref stopped it ???

Pretty boring. Kid Yamamoto has looked boring or bad the 2 times Ive watched him. I guess hes a flash in the pan. He looked terrible.

Two huge guys going at it is rarely going to make for a good fight. I mean, have you seen Butterbean-Zuluzinho? At least the big-small dynamic is fun, if rarely a good fight. You either have Goliath administering a good old beatdown, or David pulling the unlikely win over a much bigger opponent. Its the kind of thing you only get in Japanese MMA and I love that.

As for Yamamoto... the guy is 17-2 now and holds wins - impressive wins, at that - over some of the best guys in the lower weight classes. Yet you see him twice and he's a flash in the pan? If I've only seen Anderson Silva's last two fights, can I accurately assume he's a boring fighter who does little?

LAS VEGAS – There is no topic that divides mixed martial arts fans more than Fedor Emelianenko, the former PRIDE heavyweight champion and the man tied with Georges St. Pierre for the top spot in the current Yahoo! Sports pound-for-pound rankings.

Emelianenko’s very vocal supporters treat him with a reverence rarely seen in sports. He’s become an almost mythological figure to these fans. But there are those who believe that Emelianenko can’t fairly be judged until he lands in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and competes in the octagon.

Frank Mir, the UFC’s interim heavyweight champion, said during a question-and-answer session with fans at a UFC Fight Club session on Friday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena that he’d love to fight Emelianenko, but said he’d only do it if it were in the UFC. Mir said that while there are other good fighters in competing promotions, “the best, the deepest pool of fighters” is in the UFC.

“If he’s called the best fighter in the world, why wouldn’t he want to come to the UFC and prove it?” Mir asked. “I know I would.”

Mike Goldberg, the UFC’s play-by-play announcer who co-hosted the Q&A with Mir, concurred. And Goldberg made an analogy about football championships in an attempt to point out why Emelianenko needs to compete in the UFC.

“If you win an Arena Football League title, it’s a ring and you’re a great athlete and you deserve it,” Goldberg said. “If you were in the XFL and you won in the XFL with those uniforms, you are still a champion. If you won in the USFL – Doug Flutie and the boys, Herschel Walker – you were a USFL champion. But at the end of the day, all those players wish they had a Super Bowl ring and that they won in the NFL. And that equates to what Frank’s talking about.”

Mir used that analogy to continue, pointing out that as great a quarterback as Dan Marino was during his career with the Miami Dolphins, his legacy is tarnished somewhat by not having a Super Bowl ring.

Mir also suggested that a fighter with good technical boxing skills could beat Emelianenko.

“Fedor has fast hands and is a very aggressive puncher,” said Mir, who meets Brock Lesnar for the undisputed UFC heavyweight title at UFC 100 on July 11 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. “But a lot of times when he swings, he goes slightly off-balance. If you sit there in front of him, [it’s trouble]. Tim Sylvia could answer that question. But if you use proper boxing, like Andrei Arlovski was doing up to the last five seconds of their fight, you see what happens. I think a very technical fighter will bother Fedor a little bit.

“[A guy] using straight punches, [a guy] with good head movement. That’s what you want. That’s a code word for skill. He’s a very powerful, quick athlete, which some people don’t realize when looking at his body. But if you fight him with skill, I think you can do very well. I thought Andrei was winning that fight until – I don’t know what that was that Andrei did.”

also, another lol that fedor has to fight in the UFC, why dont Mir and Brock ask Dana to go beat Fedor up in a co-promotion if he is that overrated, sounds like a plan

I don't think their remarks are going to convince Fedor to jump ship. Why do they even bother?

because they're mad they are not recongnized as the best HWs in the world except by rednecks and kids who just bought the new UFC video game

Fedor makes bank, controls his career and is seen as the best fighter in the planet by most MMA fans and that bothers Dana and the UFC B league HW champs, maybe the can create another HW title and have a 3 way dance!

Belfort's refusal to fight Mousasi at any other weight besides 185 pounds has created some controversy considering his previous campaign to fight Fedor Emelianenko at heavyweight. Mousasi expressed some confusion regarding Belfort's recent change in philosophy.

"I am very surprised that Belfort was willing to challenge Fedor at heavyweight yet it unwilling to fight me at a catchweight," he said. Mousasi then went on to issue a compromise challenge.

"If (Belfort) does not want to fight at middleweight, why not fight me at a catchweight?"

Mousasi and Belfort argueing over the weight, figured this would happen, I see Mousasi's point, but I dont think Belfort should fight higher than 185 for a while, he has been deadly at that weight recently

Why should he co-promote anything when he just doesn't need to? If Fedor does not want to sign a contract to fight in the UFC, screw him (...in Dana's mind).

Of course Fedor should be considered the best heavyweight in the world. But that shouldn't stop the UFC from promoting their top heavyweight as the best. More people know Mir/Brock as the best instead of Fedor anyway.

If you're Fedor, you really don't need the UFC anyway. That is...as long as you don't care that most Americans don't know you. I'm sure he's a wealthy dude and can take a fight in Japan whenever he wants and make sweet coin. Why risk your $$$ by signing an exclusive UFC deal and risk failing to adjust to the octagon?

Just a case where neither side needs to do business with the other.

belfort wants to have a nice little win streak going when his contract with affliction is up so he can paid, most likely by the UFC who is starving for MW fighters. mousasi is the clear cut favorite in that fight.

They both dont need each other, thats been proven, but the UFC cant say there HW champ (both of them) is the best and fool the real MMA fans, like I said, rednecks and kids who bought the new UFC game think Brock and Mir are the best

Brock seems to like comp, Mir seems to like comp, they probably would both like to fight Fedor, well maybe not Mir, lol

Thats why I said in the locker room thread, not having Fedor, AA, etc...is like the NFL not having Manning, Big Ben, etc...he didnt get the top of the top in the most promotable class in fight sports

We will probably never see Fedor in the UFC and you know what, he shouldnt fight in the UFC, he makes just as much money, if someone like Brock wants to be the best, he needs to fight Fedor, Fedor doesnt need to go fight the B league HWs

If the mainstream media finally jumps on the Fedor bandwagon it would kind of force Dana's hand, but I dont see it happening

Imagine Sports Illustarted or ESPN the magazine outting Fedor on the cover? That would blow Danas mind
