Agreed... just a fight ago we're talking about if Shogun is washed up and if he can even finish a fight without passing out to exhaustion, now he deserves a title shot? For what? KOing Chuck? Chuck look disastrous in that fight. This is an example of Dana catering to TUF and what works for him, not who deserves the next shot. He obviously wants Shad and Rampage as coaches for TUF since Machida declined. So he throws Shogun into the next title fight cause its convenient.

^ all very true but who else deserves a shot? rashad and rampage are on TUF, forrest is fighting silva, jardine and thiago silva are fighting each other soon and that pretty much leaves nobody outside of luis cane and shogun that could make sense. after his thrashing of liddell shogun seems to be the best choice. hope the shogun of old shows up

He is also a better match up for machida than almost any UFC LHW, Shogun has all the tools and actually isnt afraid to take people down and go for subs, he isnt in the 'stand and bang' club but can do that also, he actually was going for a leg lock against chuck, who else even tries that at LHW in the UFC?

Lol @ leader of the anti-UFC commission believing that Shogun deserves a shot based on what we've seen from him in his UFC fights. He got it by process of elimination. Shogun was a great fighter in Japan, he was taking the LHW division by storm.. but I still dont believe in his work ethic. If he can beat Machida, all doubts are erased. And he has the skill set to do it, but not if hes coming with the kind of work ethic he did against Mark Coleman and Forrest Griffin. Shogun has all the talent in the world, but it doesnt mean shit if you gas yourself out in the fight. Im actually looking forward to the fight, but Shogun still got it by process of elimination.

Two-time welterweight title challenger Frank Trigg is returning to the UFC after more than three years away and he has his sights set on another run at the 170-pound title.

One of the fight game’s most charismatic figures, the 37-year old Trigg wrestled for the University of Oklahoma and competed in the 2000 Olympic trials, but it has been in mixed martial arts where he has truly made his mark. A pro since 1997, Trigg (19-6) made appearances in PRIDE, Shooto, and the WFA before debuting in the UFC in 2003 against welterweight champion Matt Hughes. Trigg fell short in that bout, but after wins over Dennis Hallman and Renato Verissimo, he engaged in a rematch with Hughes at UFC 52 in 2005 that is considered one of the greatest bouts in UFC history, despite his submission defeat to the future Hall of Famer.

Trigg’s first stint in the UFC ended later that year after a defeat to Georges St-Pierre, but the Rochester, New York native has since been on a tear, winning seven of nine bouts, including victories over Ronald Jhun, Mayhem Miller, Kazuo Misaki, Edwin Dewees, and Falaniko Vitale. Currently riding a four fight winning streak, Trigg is a welcome addition to an already stacked welterweight division.

A date and opponent for Trigg’s UFC return has not been determined.

That's not true, he wanted and offered Rampage the title shot, which he declined in order to fight Evans. So, with Rampage declining the fight with Machida the next guy in line at this point has to be Shogun. It'll be a good fight.

lol, you act like 5 guys had to drop from the picture in order for Shogun to be selected. He was the #2 guy, there's nothing wrong with that at all.

Fedor Emelianenko will lock horns with Josh Barnett in the featured bout at Affliction “Trilogy” on Aug. 1 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The promotion made the heavyweight matchup official on Friday.

Unbeaten in his last 27 fights, the incomparable Emelianenko (30-1, 1 NC) flattened former UFC champions Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia in his most recent outings. The 32-year-old Russian knocked out Arlovski with one punch 3:14 into their match at Affliction “Day of Reckoning.” Hard to handle on his feet and on the ground, Emelianenko has finished his last five opponents inside one round and holds victories against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, 2006 Pride Open Weight Grand Prix winner Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and former UFC heavyweight champions Mark Coleman and Kevin Randleman. He has delivered 23 of his 30 career wins by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

Barnett, a former UFC champion like Arlovski and Sylvia, will carry a four-fight winning streak into the bout. The 31-year-old last appeared in January, when he struck Gilbert Yvel into submission at Affliction “Day of Reckoning.” Barnett has won nine of his last 11 fights, including a victory against Emelianenko’s brother, Aleksander, at a Pride show in 2006. A 6-foot-3, 250-pound catch wrestler, he has secured 15 of his 24 career wins by submission.

Its not that he doesnt deserve it per say.. but its falling into your UFC hate for me aswell. They're catering to a reality series and shit like that. We had nothing but question marks about Rua before the Chuck fight.. so he knocks out a supposed washed up Chuck and he jumps into it? Because it worked out that way.

Im not trying to say Rua's not a good fighter.. we've all seen what hes capable of.. but dude went from question mark to title shot in one fight? Thats Brock Lesnar-esque.

like I said earlier in this debate, you cant throw out Shogun's prior 3 years of just kicking ass, he fought Forrest after a injury and lay off, whatever you think of his performance against Coleman it was still a win and he beatdown Chuck and would have kicked his head into the 3rd row if it was prides rules, he showed wrestling, sub attempts and relentless striking

It is nowhere near Lesner-esque, Brock was 2 and freakin' 1 and got a title shot, let me repeat, 2 and 1, Shogun is 18-3 with wins over Rampage, Little Nog, Overeem X 2, Arona, etc.., you cant throw out that just because he had a loss and 2 wins in the UFC, Shogun has proven to be a top tier fighting for years now and has almost a 90% finishing rate

To even debate this is silly, and its not his fault Rampage wants to be a TV star and see what Machida's weaknesses are before fighting him, props to Shogun for taking the fight and he has earned any title shot he is given with his past accomplishments IMO

And I already said im not discrediting Shogun because we all know what hes capable of. If an injury was an excuse for Forest (plenty of fighters come off injuries and fight btw, you know that Rob) what about against Coleman? I just dont like how you hold things against fighters but give other fighters passes for similar shit.

Again tho.. im looking forward to the fight. I think Shogun has the skill set to beat Machida. Do I think he will? No.. but anything can happen.

how is forrest more deserving? thats like saying rashad should get a rematch which could of happened also, atleast Shogun is coming off 2 wins, Rashad got a title shot off beating Chuck and Forrest got a title shot off beating......Shogun! Before Forrest beat Shogun he was coming off a win from Hector Ramirez and a loss to Jardine

Fact are, Rampage probably should have got a rematch against Forrest for there close fight than Rampage went crazy and lost his shot, now he passed on it
