Thats why I was telling Rosetta that the UFC runs more like the WWE at this point
On the UG someone brought up Joe as a 'company man' which isnt true, Joe does his own thing, but anyway
We asked him a couple questions, at first he said 'the UFC never tells me what to say about fighters' than someone said 'what about Randy?'
Joe than said the UFC told him not to mention Randy and I asked about 'fighting in Japan' and he said the UFC wouldnt let him mention Pride at the time, asked about Strikeoforce also and he didnt comment, maybe he missed the question, but more than likely he can not mention other promotions

Marketing is marketing, they're still totally different. It's one thing to build a superstar by fabricating his image and character while scripting his wins, vs pitting someone against another fighter who he should in theory be capable of beating.

Obviously noone is saying the UFC is scripted.
But they are willing to feed cans to fighters to build them up for the crowd if they think they're marketable. Its wrestling-esque. Boxing does similar shit, like I said.. but in boxing theres a lot of negotiating for your own fights. Promoters dont really feed cans to fighters.. they might feed cans to themselves.
Also, thats why Dana got pissed at Cro Cop, he was trying to bring Cro Cop in to build up Cain, but Cro Cop said give me someone else first, he got Al Turk to beat and left

Absolutely the big stars in the UFC have control over who they fight. We see it happen all the time. Rampage didn't want to fight Machida, he wanted Evans and that's who he got. Cro Cop was given many, many options of fights and he finally chose Al-Turk. Chuck has always been given options, a list of fighters to select from. Guys turn down fights all the time too.
So what the UFC builds stars, why shouldn't they? Who doesn't try to build stars?
They can say they dont want to fight, if Dana agrees than its cool, if he wants you to fight and you dont, you're fucked, plan and simple

At the end of the day you're still trying to compare a male soap opera to a legitimate sport. In the UFC the top contenders will square off, marketing BS aside eventually the best will fight the best. Do you have this in the WWE? All you see is fabricated superstar vs fabricated superstar, so how are the two comparable? Can you even determine who's really the best when everything is scripted anyway? Plus what the UFC does is put their selves in win/win situations, which is a little bit different. Frank Mir vs Lesnar 1 is a win/win scenario. If Frank wins you have a very talented fighter who's going to be right back within the mainstream and gain a lot of popularity from many fans, new and old. If Brock wins he beats a legit opponent and sky rockets to fame.
Cro Cop vs Gonzaga is a win/win situation. Bonnar vs Jon Jones is a win/win situation. You see what I'm saying..

The WWE is in complete control of everything, the UFC is not. A WWE superstar is born before he even wins his big "fight", and he'll remain a superstar for as long as the WWE wants him to be a superstar. All the UFC can do is slowly work a guy up the ranks, exact same thing as in boxing, and hope for the best. If the UFC was anything like the WWE Chuck Liddell would still be the champion of the LHW division.

Well, again who in the UFC appeals to the crowd better than Chuck Liddell? No one, he was their biggest star and attracted more fans than any other fighter in the UFC. So, if the UFC was anything like the WWE Chuck Liddell would still be champ since he meets the WWE's criteria in that the fan base loves him. The UFC would be feeding him cans, not having him fight guys like Rampage, so Chuck could continue to bring them in more money than any other fighter would be capable of. There's no ploy to the UFC like there is with wrestling. It doesn't go down that way though since this is a sport, so the marketing has to be adapted to reflect an actual sport.
