The rumor mill is claiming to know which Batman comic book storyline will serve as the basis for Christopher Nolan's sequel The Dark Knight Rises.

Batman-on-Film and Entertainment Weekly point out a report that originated at ScriptFlags, which claims to have heard from a public relations source that the third Nolan-directed Bat-film will be based on the "Prey" storyline that appeared in the comic book Legends of The Dark Knight issues #11-15.

Neither BoF nor EW are saying that "Prey" will be the basis for The Dark Knight Rises; they are merely reiterating the speculative scuttlebutt that's out there online right now.

ScriptFlags reminds us that "Prey," written by Doug Moench, is set during the early days of Batman's career and "centers itself around Batman being pursued by the deranged police psychiatrist ..Doctor Hugo Strange. When a police officer Max Cort is sent to Strange for treatment for his hatred of vigilantes, Strange hypnotises Cort into becoming a costumed vigilante himself named Night Scourge in the hopes of bringing Batman out of hiding. Strange also convinces the mayor to prepare a special task force to capture Batman with Commissioner Gordon as its head." Strange eventually learns Batman's secret identity, but keeps the discovery to himself. Catwoman also appears in it

"Prey" certainly lends itself to the world established in Nolan's previous Batman films and would be a logical story to use as a structural basis for the threequel given the ending of The Dark Knight. So for the hell of it, let's say this rumor pans out. Would Tom Hardy be playing Hugo Strange (whom he looked something like in Bronson) or perhaps the detective-turned-vigilante Cort?

It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Nolan and Co. to use "Prey" as the basis for their sequel. They may have drawn heavily from Batman: Year One for Batman Begins, but they also poached from less celebrated comic book stories such as "Batman: The Man Who Falls" and "Batman: Blind Justice," which introduced the character of Henri Ducard. The Dark Knight was heavily influenced by Joker's first appearance in Batman #1. It should be noted that Hugo Strange, like Joker and Catwoman, is among Batman's earliest recurring villains, first appearing in 1940 in Detective Comics #36.

Today, we’ve been sent three very interesting rumors concerning Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. Before we go into what we were sent, it’s important to know that Nolan’s intense desire for secrecy regarding his films makes it impossible to get confirmation or denial on any rumor. There will be no official word on The Dark Knight Rises until Nolan says so. However, we believe there is some veracity to the information we’ve been sent and thought we would pass it along to you.

First up, a source tells us that Eva Green and Naomi Watts have been cast in the film. The source doesn’t know which roles they’re playing, but believes they’ve been cast as Talia al Ghul and Vicki Vale, respectively. However, we have no confirmation these characters are even in the movie. We previously reported that the film would have two new female leads: a love interest and a villain. Vicky Vale, a reporter who was played by Kim Basinger in Tim Burton’s Batman, would presumably be the love interest, while Talia al Ghul is the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul (played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins) and in the comics has been an anti-hero/love-interest for Batman. Hit the jump for more rumors regarding The Dark Knight Rises, which is set to be released on July 20, 2012. [Update: Heat Vision is reporting that Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara, Charlotte Riley, and possibly Gemma Arterton are testing for the female roles, so it's possible that Green and Watts haven't been cast. However, we have independently confirmed that Talia al Ghul is in the movie.]

Before moving on to the other rumors, it’s worth noting that Watts’ name was mentioned before as a possible contender to play one of the female leads. Green’s name is new to the mix, but she’s age-appropriate in relation to Christian Bale, she’s sexy as hell, and would nail the femme fatale angle of Talia al Ghul or even Catwoman if that’s the film’s female villain. Again, we cannot confirm or deny this casting, but we wanted to pass it along.

The same source also tells us that principal photography is set to begin on May 6th with post-production set to begin on November 28th. This timeline coincides with an earlier report from Michael Caine who said that filming was supposed to run from May through November. Finally, this source tells us that the leaked script for the film that recently hit the net is fake and that the cast will get the real script sometime next week.

A different source tells us some new details regarding the design of the new Batmobile and Batcave. It’s not surprising that both will be in the new movie since the old Batmobile was destroyed in The Dark Knight and Bruce and Alfred have been working on the Batcave since the end of Batman Begins. Our source “Raphael” tells us that the new Batmobile (aka The Tumbler) has been redesigned as a sleeker version, but still powerful and with all the gadgets. As for the Batcave, it will be the same cave we saw in Batman Begins and they’re attempting to keep the classic stuff like the circular bay for the Batmobile, but keep the look modern. They’re also setting up the Batcomputer and storage for the Batsuits. And if there’s a new Batmobile and a new Batcave, is it possible we’ll be getting a new Batsuit in The Dark Knight Rises? (Hint, hint.)

Again, this is all rumor because we can’t get it confirmed. However, we trust these sources enough that we’re willing to post the information they’ve sent us. More as we hear it.

Christopher Nolan is looking at some of Hollywood's leading actresses -- as well as a few emerging talents -- for major female roles in The Dark Knight Rises, his next Batman film.
Sources tell Heat Vision that Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Biel (pictured, top left) are due to test for roles in the Warner Bros. superhero tentpole in the next two weeks. Also testing are relative newcomers Kate Mara (top right) and Charlotte Riley (bottom left). Hot British actress Gemma Arterton (bottom right) has also scheduled to test but, as Heat Vision first reported last week, Arterton just landed the female lead in Paramount's Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and might now have scheduling issues.
Dark Knight Rises needs to fill two big female roles, a villain and a love interest. Sources say one character is Talia, the daughter of villain Ra's Al Ghul, who was portrayed by Liam Neeson in Nolan's first Gotham-set crime pic Batman Begins. In the comic books, Talia is both Batman's lover and antagonist, ultimately siring his alter ego Bruce Wayne's son.
While Knightley, Hathaway and Biel are well-known actresses, the other two are up-and-comers. Mara had brief roles in 127 Hours and Iron Man 2 in 2010. Her sister Rooney Mara is currently shooting David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in the title role. Riley is a British actress who has done mostly TV work. She is engaged to Tom Hardy, who co-starred in Nolan's summer smash Inception and has already booked an unspecified role in Dark Knight Rises.
Despite some online reports, Naomi Watts and Eva Green have not been cast. Although there has been interest in Watts, the Australian actress can't even do meetings as she is busy shooting the tsunami disaster drama The Impossible with Ewan McGregor in Thailand. (Watts can't be completely discounted, though, since she will wrap before Dark Knight Rises begins.) Green, meanwhile, is due to star in the business drama Arbitrage with Al Pacino, which shoots in April.
The film, written by David Goyer, Nolan and his brother Jonathan and produced by Nolan, Emma Thomas and Charles Roven, is looking at a May start, with shooting to take place in London and Los Angeles, according to insiders. Christian Bale is set to return as the Caped Crusader.
Nolan and Warner Bros. declined to comment.

Batman has found a nemesis for his next cinematic adventure – and it looks like a love interest, too. On Wednesday, Warner Brothers Pictures announced a new cast member and clarified the role of another for “The Dark Knight Rises,” the third Batman movie to be directed by Christopher Nolan, the “Inception” and “Memento” filmmaker. Joining Christian Bale, who returns as Batman and his daytime alter ego, Bruce Wayne, is Anne Hathaway (of “Love and Other Drugs”) who will play Selina Kyle; the film will also feature Tom Hardy, a co-star of “Inception,” as a villain named Bane.

As comic-book fans know, the Selina Kyle character is the secret identity of Batman’s sometime paramour (and sometime foe) Catwoman, and Bane is a muscular bad guy powered by an addictive drug called Venom. But a news release from Warner Brothers gave no descriptions of how these characters would be utilized in Mr. Nolan’s film; Mr. Nolan said in a statement only that Ms. Hathaway was “a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story” and that he was “delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

“The Dark Knight Rises” is planned to be released on July 20, 2012, with a screenplay by Mr. Nolan and his brother, Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer.

after watching Bronson awhile ago, i think Hardy can pull Bane off, but he wasnt exactly all buffed up in the movie, so i wonder if hes gonna get all buffed up or not, i remember looking at Chris Evans as Cap pics where he is all buffed up, just didnt look right


these probably arent the only two casting news, Warner Bros probably just drawing up more interest for other characters, i still expect another female lead and villain to be announced, unless Selena turns into Catwoman and is sort of a villain/love interest

Bane and Catwoman are strong villains, and I wonder if they do anything with Harvey Dent. Nolan always said, TDK was as much about Dent as it was about Wayne. I almost expect another villain, so maybe it will end up being Dent.

i doubt it, the guy that played him was getting asked left and right if he was coming back, and on Conan, he said he saw Chris Nolan on a beach and asked if he would be back, Chris said no, i'm guessing if Ras wont be coming back, the whole resurrection idea is dead as well
