NFL Week 4 Random Thoughts

i know SF is good, but they did have to travel across country and still won 34-0 in NY.

they actually went to ohio after the vikings game in week 3 and practiced there to make the distance and time zone changes factor in less.

No major stories about the awful calls in the GB/NO game that almost cost GB the game, again?

Is it because GB won? No ESPN highlights of it? Just not frequent enough to complain yet? If a replacement ref missed those calls it would be worldwide news.

edit: I do highly enjoy the normal refs being back. The games seem to move smoother without a doubt. I just find it funny that there hasn't even been a mention about the god awful calls.

The New York Jets are run as a team to gain market share from the NY Giants. They are the little dog, they want a bigger share of the city. Brett Favre, Rex Ryan, Tim Tebow, Santonio Holmes, etc. They are brought in for media/market reasons first, before the football reasons. Loud players who bring media baggage. That's all they want.

The NY Jets prioritize brand growth over winning, starting at the top with ownership. It's what he wants. It's who the Jets are. If the player isn't going to bring in the fanfare, the Jets aren't looking.

Same criticism many had with the way the Mets were run in the mid-to-late 2000s. SPLASHY MOVES with the intent of grabbing back page headlines. Meanwhile the Giants stockpile defensive linemen and routinely take 6-10 weeks to play into form every year. It's not as glamorous during the pre-season media blitz, but by week 17 I think you know which route you'd rather your team take.

refs will always make bad calls. i thought the SNF ending was ruined by those late PI calls. and i agree the GB/NO game was also tarnished with bad calls. bad calls were not the problem with the scabs, it was there blatant failure at knowing the basic rules of the game.

I don't like to complain about stuff like this because it makes me feel too homerish....but yes, a couple of the calls were horrific.

The first Saints touchdown was damn near as big of offensive pass interference as Tate pushing off Shields on the hail mary play. The fumble for Sproles was obviously an awful call, but it was the Packers coaching staffs own fault for failing two pretty obvious challenges. They should have had at least one of those challenges left for that play.

Tough for me to convince some Skins fans I know of that. Thought that because we spent big money on Bowen and Cofield for the 3-4 that they would be putting up the numbers Cofield used to, or what Bowen was projected to do as a full-time starter, but that's just not the case for 3-4 lineman.

Should be a tough game, but I really think Dallas is going to be gifted with Jay Cutler laying an egg again.

I honestly don't even put that game on solely on Romo's shoulders. He had 2 bad overthrows and that fumble/interception that was returned for a touchdown. By the time he threw his last 2 INTs the game was out of reach and he was trying to do too much.

That first INT is on Dez and the second one was on Olgetree. That fumble/interception was a bonehead move. He tries to do that pitch way too much.

A couple bad plays + zero help from your supporting cast = a loss every time.

Robinson was knocked out cold and has a concussion. Meriweather was hopefully coming back after spraining his PCL and MCL ligaments in the same knee he re-injured in that collision. So weird to see that happen.

So if the Jets do not have Santonio Holmes for the rest of the season I think they need to roll with Tim Tebow. Sanchez is just about ready to self-destruct.

Where do I start?

1. The stats will say Romo threw 5 picks. He actually threw 3. On the first one, Dez Bryant ran the wrong route. On the second one, Kevin Ogletree didn't fight for the ball. The remaining 3 are on Tony. He's regressed in protecting the ball, IMO.

2. I think I'm done with Dez Bryant. He had at least 3 drops last night. You just can't have that.

3. Where was the pass rush last night?

4. During the bye week, I want Livings and Bernadeau gone from the OL. They're just taking up space.

5. I know hindsight is always 20/20, but IMO, the Cowboys made a MAJOR mistake in not taking 2 OL with their first 2 picks in the NFL Draft. But, I guess $50 million doesn't buy what it used to.

6. Where did all the Bears fans come from? They were so loud last night, I thought the game was being played at Soldier Field.

This is the worst that I've felt about this team since they went 1-15 not long after Jerry bought the team, and that's saying something.
