nobody enjoys watching mayweather fight. he is a great boxer, but the fact is that he is not an entertaining boxer and nobody is going to pay money to see him run around the ring for 12 rounds.

That's my point, though. People are getting tired of Floyd while Manny has become the new fan favorite. Floyd's numbers are only going to fall from here on out, there's nothing left for him to prove or do besides fight Manny.

And while Manny has been equally as dominant as of late, people will still enjoy watching him beat people up because he is exciting to watch and much more likable than Floyd.

And I'd argue that JMM is a bigger draw than Cotto. Cotto generated 110k out of the 1.25 million buys in puerto rico. I couldn't find the buys in mexico for the PBF fight but I'm sure it was higher than that. Not to mention the mexican population in the US is much larger than the Puerto Rican population as well.

"The truth is taking blood out of my body does not seem natural to me, and mentally I feel it will weaken me if blood is taken from me just days before the fight," the statement quotes Pacquiao as saying on his Web site.

The funny thing is that all these boxers saying they want olympic drug testing are going to be the ones that test positive for something.

Olympic drug testing is extremely extensive. To the point where it catches everything. You can take too much medicine and test positive for amphetamines.

What substances are officially banned in boxing? Does boxing have an official banned substances list?

Throughout Dana White’s sometimes ugly yet always entertaining back-and-forth with the boxing world, the UFC president has maintained his stance that as a fight fan, he is hopeful for boxing’s reemergence.

However, he sounded even less optimistic than usual when discussing the fallout from the drug testing controversy that has enveloped the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. mega-fight tentatively scheduled for March 13.

“Boxing in the United States has fallen apart, and it’s just over,” White said Wednesday after the UFC 108 news conference. “It’s over. It’s going to take, for it to even have a shot, it would take someone to come in and spend the kind of money the Fertittas spent to try to save boxing. But nobody in boxing spends money to try to save boxing. They all take from boxing; they don’t give back to it, none of them do.”

While White has beaten on this drum many times before, the possibility that the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight may not take place may give his often-dismissed opinion a little more credence. Reasserting his claim that the sport is an also-ran in the United States, the outspoken UFC boss, acknowledging the trouble his answer may cause him with his English fighters, claimed the sport’s European popularity is a sign of weakness that can’t be ignored.

“Everybody knows my philosophy on boxing,” said White. “They’re in big trouble. There is no amateur program anymore. It’s become a European sport now. Back in the day -- all the people in England are going to blast me for this one, but the European guys couldn’t win jack s---.”

As for the drug testing issues that may scuttle the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout, White sounded indignant that fighters felt the need to go above and beyond the testing implemented by the state athletic commission in Nevada.

“What, fighters decide what fighters are going to do? That’s what the commission is there for,” commented White. “The athletic commission is there for the safety of the fighters. They drug test, they blood test, they do all those other things. For another fighter to be calling out another fighter for some type of blood work is f------ crazy. Just f------ train for the fight and fight; that’s what everybody wants to see. I want to see this fight. I’m dying to see this fight.”

And if the issues are resolved and the bout does come to fruition, White, the consummate promoter, understands the big picture.

“People are used to this kind of stuff from boxing,” he said. “If anything, it just makes more people aware of the fight.”

We still have to settle some things, but we will definitely not have blood tests done on either of the two fighters, "Wilson told Primera Hora telephone from Las Vegas. Pacquiao fight at 154 pounds for the first time in his career.

"It will be a tough fight. I believe that Manny is heading into the unknown. It will not be easy against a man who will hydrate up to 160 pounds by the time of the fight. I think it will be too much for him (Pacquiao), "said Wilson.

Pacquiao was scheduled to face Mayweather, but talks went overboard when they reached an agreement for blood tests to detect steroids before the fight.

I guess my New Years resolution for 2010 will be to have fewer lunches at Rafael’s, my favorite Mexican restaurant located on Beverly Blvd. and Wilcox Ave. in Montebello( a few short blocks from my office). Before I started working out at the nearby Bally’s this early afternoon, I was informed that talks between the camps of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather were still on-going and productive.

Hey, perhaps this whole mess could be salvaged after all for March 13Th.

Then hours later as I was consuming my albondigas soup( which is Mexican for ’meatball) this arrived in my email box courtesy of veteran boxing scribe Michael (SPAM DELETED - SPAM NOT ALLOWED). Yeah, it looks like Pacquiao could be facing Yuri Foreman, the current WBA jr. middleweight titlist. Which was news to Golden Boy CEO, Richard Schaefer, who told Maxboxing.com at around 4:15 pm," That’s what I’m hearing, but again, Bruce Binkow and Todd DuBoef are still having conversations. So I’m hearing these things. Supposedly Bob( Arum) mentioned it to Robert Morales and to Dan Rafael, that they are going to go with Yuri Foreman."

So what’s the plan with Mayweather?

"I’m not going to discuss what we’re going to do next," said Schaefer."I have reached out to Bruce and asked him to reach out to Todd. And if this is really the case, if they are walking away from the fight and are going to fight Foreman, if that’s the case, I will have conversations with Team Mayweather on what they want to do next." At this stage, Schaefer didn’t seem to know much more than anybody else."I talked to Bruce Binkow about 15 minutes ago and he is waiting to hear from Todd. They talked earlier today trying to gap that window as it relates to the blood testing, the cut-off date. These conversations were supposedly productive and so that’s all I know."

About a half-hour later, I received a call from Arum, who is wrapping up his vacation in Mexico. He confirmed to Maxboxing regarding Foreman,"That’s the fight we’re working on." Arum will arrive in Las Vegas on Saturday, and at that point he will start to negotiate that bout.

That story included this interesting tidbit from an anonymous source: "According to a source familiar with the talks, Pacquiao’s representatives asked what penalties Pacquiao would face if he tested dirty, and also if a dirty test result could be kept secret so that the integrity of the fight wouldn’t be ruined in the public eye."

Which is odd, given that the whole issue of this extra battery of tests was to show the public that there was an even playing field where both sides were abiding by the laws and regulations of the commission. Arum said of this passage,"It’s totally crazy! What kind of b*llshit is that?!?!"

This was an eventful day as Pacquiao filed a federal defamation lawsuit against the Mayweather’s, Oscar De La Hoya and Schaefer, over the comments that they have made regarding his possible usage of illegal performance enhancing drugs.

When asked if Binkow and DuBoef were still talking, Arum answered,"No, no, no! As far as we’re concerned, we filed the lawsuit and we’re going to go ahead with the Foreman fight. As far as Mayweather, we’re going to fight Foreman and maybe revisit this if they stop acting like assholes in the summer and fall. No use talking further, we’re talked out. We have a fighter who is extremely upset, we’re upset.

"This has been a smear campaign."
