as far as being a great player at an individual position. Favre is tops because he owns all the stats. Years from now when no one will know who Favre is/was , the stats in the history books will the thing he is identified with. And right now, all his stats mean he is number 1 outright.

He's #1 in a lot of the records mainly off of longevity. Manning and Brady both throw TDs at a higher clip than him (while throwing less INTs too) and I'd take both of them over Favre regardless of any all time records.

Clearly Vinny Testaverde is better than Joe Montana, since Testy has more TD's and yards than Montana.

Frank Tarkenton:
18.9 passes per touchdown
7.3 yards per attempt

Peyton Manning:
17.8 passes per touchdown
7.7 yards per attempt

Brett Favre:
19.7 passes per touchdown
7.1 yards per attempt

it doesnt matter how you get it , as long as you get it. Favre had/ has had a long career. Thats a positive, not a negative.

I dont care about any hindsite 20/20 vision about who you would pick if you were a GM.
Favre owns all the stats. As an individual QB, that means he is number one until someone passes him.

“I think the Vikings were clearly the best team,” Tarkenton said. “They held this New Orleans offense to under 300 yards. They made Drew Brees look ordinary. He didn’t even throw for 200 yards. The guys have been throwing for 400, 500 yards. They were the better team. Their offense turned the ball over five times, the Viking offense. Tarkenton said he is not down on Favre’s abilities.

“No, I think he has been a great, great player,” Tarkenton said. “I am not a great fan of Brett Favre’s because he goes out and all I heard them talk about is Brett Favre and he is tough, he is getting hit. You know Peyton Manning gets hit. I have played with a torn ACL. Donovan McNabb gets hit. We all get hit but he is flapping around and jumping around and he is getting hit and he talks in the soft voice. I would rather it be about the team and not Brett Favre. I get the idea that it is more about Brett Favre than the team. A quarterback is to make his teammates better but he is not about that. Now as a player, he has been a great player. No question about it. Also great players, my gosh, I have never seen great quarterbacks make that many bad plays in a critical moment in a playoff game.”

Tarkenton was asked about Favre’s career passing yards and touchdown records.

“He has done great and Peyton Manning is going to go by his records because you play 16 games today,” Tarkenton said. “It is a quarterbacks league, they changed the rules in 1979 where you couldn’t hit the receiver past five yards. That changed the whole offense. Now most anybody can throw for 300 yards. Back in our day if you threw for 300 yards that was a huge thing. Now these records are going to continually be broken because of the nature of the game and Peyton will beat Favre. Favre has been a great, great player. No question about it. One of the greats of all-time. I am just not a great Brett Favre fan.”

and QB rating is really an invalid stat in the long run. its a failed science and needs work. Plus he is already in the hall of fame anyway, right ?

when you play uninjured for a long time ,win a Superbowl, go to another, almost get to 2 more, be a winner with 2 new teams in 2 years and pile up stats that are better than anyone else who played the game up to that point.

you are definitely one of the best QBs of all time.

and I say one of the best because there trully is no - The Best - of all time.

just players you may remember more than others, because time passes , era's change, rules change, players change. But , its fun to remember the great ones.
