GT's administration or Georgia's? I don't see why Dawgs would feel threatened. They already pretty much own the Atlanta media market anyway.

The reason I prefer Tech over Clemson is that they were an original member of the SEC. The academic reputation doesn't hurt either.

Though Clemson is probably more of a cultural fit with their stadium size, the actual existence of female life on campus, etc.

Georgia's. With them back in the same conference they feel that would help to even the recruiting field within the state.

Clemson and FSU. Possibly West Virginia which would count as spillover from the New ACC hybrid with the Big East that will be triggered with Pitt and Syracuse's move.

Pitt and Cuse have applied for membership to the ACC, so that's pretty far from speculative.

Which has prompted much speculation about what the aftermath of that will be.

I'm telling you right now, the ACC needs to get UConn and WVU.

UConn basketball would be great, plus WVU brings the Backyard Brawl with Pitt, and rivals with Maryland and VT. It makes more sense to me than WVU in the SEC.

the SEC sees WVU as a gateway into PA and OH for recruiting... not to mention, Duke and UNC will blackball us from joining the ACC(again), with UVA and VT joining them...

Losing Pitt doesn't really matter (like losing BC a few years ago), but Syracuse not being in the Big East is some serious bullshit.

VT wasn't in the ACC until 2003-04.

I wasnt sure when they were in but when I think of the ACC I dont think Pitt, Miami, Cuse, Uconn etc. I just think its all bullshit

TCU should fuck the Big East move at this point and move to the Big 12.

I wish they had just stayed in the Mountain West. Is there a way to reverse the move at this point?

I know it's optimistic, idealist thinking, but I'd hope the NCAA would eventually (sooner rather than later) grant the MWC an automatic-qualifier based on the fact that they're consistent contenders. Utah left, but they have Boise. They have Reno incoming. Fresno and Hawaii have potential (UH has been disappointing in their second two games, but this has been a rebuilding year; they're both generally good programs, Hawaii split the WAC championship with UNR and BSU last year)...

What do you guys think will happen with the Independents? I'd think ND would get absorbed into the Midwest conference as that makes geographical sense and it helps to preserve its Big Ten rivalries. Idunno what would happen to Army, Navy, or BYU.

And do the incoming FCS to FBS teams even matter? South Alabama, Texas State-San Marcos, Texas-San Antonio, UMass? What exactly is the point of the lowest-tier and lower-tier conferences once the megaconferences are [hypothetically] created? Schedule filler that you can pretend is equivalent competition?

How is this any different than it is currently? The BCS teams use the other schools as cannon fodder, and completely ignore the Boise's and TCU's come bowl time. All Boise does is kick everybody's ass for the last ten years, and it doesn't matter. I've been saying for years that they should just stop pretending, splinter off the 40 top teams, and end the facade that every team and "every game matters!".

Report: Big East, Big 12 discuss merger

NEW YORK -- A person involved in the discussions tells The Associated Press that school and conference officials from the Big East and Big 12 have been discussing ways to merge what's left of the two leagues if Texas and Oklahoma leave the Big 12.

The person, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk publicly about what is going on behind the scenes, said Monday there has been dialogue between athletic directors and high-level officials in the conference offices.

Syracuse and Pittsburgh have announced they will be leaving the Big East for the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Texas and Oklahoma are both trying to decide whether to leave the Big 12 for the Pac-12, taking Oklahoma State and Texas Tech with them.
