This does not bode well for high-major basketball programs without a football team like Marquette, G-Town, Nova, and St. Johns. We are basically bystanders hoping not to get completely fucked at this point. To remain competitive as an annual tournament team Marquette really benefits from being a member of the Big East (and its TV deal) and without it could be in a lot of trouble.

An article I read that was interesting but I have no idea how true talked about the possibility of there being an basketball-only conference made from what's left of the Big East along with the tops in the A-10 (Xavier, Dayton, St. Joes). If that's within the realm of possibility it would definitely be better than a lot of alternatives.

ND will stay independent as long as possible on football. I know Swarbrick was a little concerned with what will happen on the Big East front. I would like to see them just chill in the Big East with Louisville, GTown, Nova, and Marquette, and if they grab the Kansas schools as scraps that will be just fine on a basketball front.

The Big East is going to be dissolved very soon. I highly doubt that they stay together for 2 reasons.

1. The basketball schools held a meeting last night and have a consensus to add a couple basketball only schools and become strictly a basketball conference. The football only schools weren't invited to the meeting.

2. The Big East, as a football conference is done. It has WVU, Rutgers, UConn, Louisville, USF, and Cincinnati. I would almost bet UConn and another will be leaving. Leaving 4 or 5 teams that are football only? It would make more sense for them to leave and find a new home (Going to the leftover Big 12 or if the Big 12 stays together to join them) than to stay in a Big East and try to convince teams to join 4 leftovers from a shitty conference to begin with?



And W2B, I get that you were a fan of Big East basketball and it was great, but why are you angry that Pitt/Cuse bounced but not the teams that "allegedly" applied to the ACC and definitely would have fucked over Pitt/Cuse had they not taken it (WVU, Villanova for fuck sakes, UConn)?


It's funny, A&M leaving is okay because Texas fucked them over. It's okay for CU and Utah to go to the Pac 12 no big deal. Nebraska bouncing for a better situation in the Big 10, again no big deal. But Pitt and Cuse leaving arguably the worst football conference in the big 6 for the ACC because it is a more stable football conference and with the addition of Pitt/Cuse is just as good of a basketball conference, not okay? I was looking at Dickie V's twitter and he was basically saying Pitt and Cuse screwed the Big East, but had they not done this, wouldn't they be the ones who would be screwed? You're god damn right they would be.

NEW YORK -- Big East Commissioner John Marinatto says all the members of his conference are committed to staying together.

The presidents and athletic directors from the Big East football schools met for 3 hours at a Manhattan hotel Tuesday.

Marinatto says each member pledged to remain in the conference and the league is aggressively searching for replacements for Pittsburgh and Syracuse. He says the non-football members also are on board.

UConn president Susan Herbst was not attending the meeting, sources told ESPN's Joe Schad, as the school focuses on lobbying for entry to the ACC. Herbst was expected to send a school official to the meeting as the representative.

A source with direct knowledge of the meeting told ESPN.com's Andy Katz that UConn didn't commit to remain in the league and is still actively pursuing membership in the ACC.

But the source said that with the Big 12 likely staying together at least nine schools other than the Huskies may have to wait for the ACC to decide if it will act on adding two more schools from its recent jump to 14, with the addition of Big East members Pitt and Syracuse.

The source said that if Big East football is to stay together then the league will look to add at least two military academies, likely Navy and Air Force.

"The ACC is the preferred place for (Connecticut)," the source said. "That hasn't changed."

So the Pac-12 wants to stay put and the Big East is trying to stick it out, guess we'll do this whole song and dance in another 6 months or so.

WVU and to a lesser extent, Louisville and Cincy, were the only reasons the BE stayed relevant in college football... all of the other schools are/were an embarrassment to college football, and will continue to be so... UConn was an aberration last year, and now that Edsall has left them, they will fall back into sub .500 land where they belong... Mike Belotti said it best on ESPNU yesterday, the ACC has just added two more NC States to its conference... that being said, WVU, TCU and Louisville need to gtfo out of this debacle of a conference, as they are all too good to be stuck in a middling conference with a functioning retard as its commissioner...
