I also want to add that the Redskins have pretty good depth at receiver, but without a #1 like Vincent Jackson or Marques Colston, everyone played a position above what they should be. Santana Moss isn't a #1 receiver anymore, Gaffney is serviceable like you said and Anthony Armstrong should be going out of the slot. It would be a pretty good group if they added one of those guys at the top.

The Skins have a bunch of number 2 and slot receivers. They have no number 1. Moss is the slot receiver. Armstrong is looking more like a bust. Gaffney should be replaced by Hankerson by Week 8.

There really is a lack of talent at the receiver position on the Redskins.


BTW, as to my opinion on this trade, I stand by what I've said since Week 4: Anyone but Rex Grossman

You traded a lot for a WIDE RECEIVER.. a position that always has stars emerge from mid-late round picks, even undrafted players (Victor Cruz says hi)

They traded a lot for a potential franchise quarterback..

Falcons trade was still stupid. Redskins trade at least has a great deal of logic behind it.

When it comes to weapons he has those backs like I said, Helu has good hands. Also Fred Davis at TE, he's shown he can get big yards. Gaffney is serviceable.

Teams have always been able to pick up receivers in the later rounds.

On the Bills: Stevie Johnson in the 7th round, David Nelson went undrafted

On the Dolphins Davone Bess went undrafted, Brandon Marshall in the 4th round

On the Pats: Wes Welker in the 7th round

That's just AFC East teams right now.

Way back when Jerricho Cotchery was a productive jets receiver having an 1,000 yard season and he was drafted in the 4th round.

Fucking Mike Wallace in the 3rd round, Torrey Smith in the 2nd.

I don't know where this sudden "You can only get good receivers in the 1st round" talk came from. Yeah, and you can only draft good RB's in the top 10, past that all the other RB's are a lost cause.

I'm not saying it's not possible to pick up players like that, you can with any position and any round but it's a lot less likely. Who's to say Redskins will find those guys either? They have sucked with finding later round talent for awhile now. Hope this pans out, like I've said already in this thread..if it doesn't they are fucked. Simple as that.

The quarterback is the most important position on the field.. if you whiff on that, then yeah its pretty likely you're not going to be fielding a championship caliber team.

Again I am not disagreeing with that. But I think they still gave up too much for him. Ryan Tannehill or Matt Flynn are other options they could have looked at and if they snagged Flynn they could use that 6th overall and 38th overall this year and gotten a WR and secondary help.

Bruce Allen said that they fell in love with two players and that those two players wouldn't of been there at 6. So why not go after the player that you feel can turn around your franchise? They gave up a lot, but they had to since there was other teams that fell in love too. Last year they had a chance to draft Blaine Gabbert but decided to pass on him, they didn't like him for some reason. Same with Ryan Mallett. They see something in RG3 and in their eyes it was worth the price.

That's a good point. You don't draft a guy just because everyone else likes him. Good job on the Redskins part of passing up Blaine Gabbert because he's awful.
