Replacement Ref Discussion Thread - Deal Reached, Will Work Thursday

I can't wait for the new refs to come back. 1)They are obviously better. 2) They have SUCH expectations to live up to now. We can all agree the scab refs are bad but all of their mistakes have been completely blown out of proportion (minus the MNF call, but we aren't even sure the real refs would have called it differently). The real refs are going to be under more scrutiny now since we had this replacement ref debacle and it should be fun to see them make a few big errors.

I just hope the media holds the regular refs under the same microscope and criticizes their blown calls with equal vigor. I think, however, they will jump back in line and act as if every call made is perfectly correct.

Their have been countless more bad calls in 3 weeks of football then one MNF call. There were a bunch of significantly bad ones in that one game alone. It's not being blown out of proportion. Regular refs make mistakes, but not nearly this many.

Regular refs have NEVER been under this type of microscope. I agree that the replacement refs have made more bad calls but they were also all rookies who have never reffed at a game of this speed. When the real refs return, look at them under the same microscope and I think you'll see the replacements weren't as bad as they were made out to be.

So it's now insane to notice the replacement refs have been BAD instead of "passable" or "good enough"? Me thinks you need a little perspective.

Regular refs have NEVER been under this type of microscope. I agree that the replacement refs have made more bad calls but they were also all rookies who have never reffed at a game of this speed. When the real refs return, look at them under the same microscope and I think you'll see the replacements weren't as bad as they were made out to be.

Are you watching football? Penalties marked off from 12 yards away from the point it should have been marked off from? A half dozen significantly bad calls in one MNF game. Many, Many others in just a two or three week span? The regular officials have made bad mistakes, but not nearly at this frequency. Yes they have been as bad as they've been made out to be. I feel sorry for them. They aren't trying to be bad, they just are. They are way over their heads.

And ALL these horrible calls are making that microscope more and more significant. They have just been bad.

There are enough blogs that will be on the real refs just like they were the replacement ones, I'm sure of it.

Not to mention the operatives THE SHIELD will have working double time so they can crack these guys the next time the round of labor negotiations open up.

I used to really think of the NFL as a top-tier organization and figured it would be a great place to work for. This mess has brought up a lot more issues with the league for me than just the officials.

You don't need a microscope to see the significantly more F-Ups that have happened in just a couple of weeks of the season as you see with the regular refs.

No, you're saying, or at least implying, that the regular refs are not significantly better. That you need a microscope on both to be able to see the difference isn't significant. I don't need a blanking microscope to see that the replacement refs (who I actually feel bad for) are definitely SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE than the regular officials. The regular officials are SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER. Their is a real significance to the frequency of the BAD CALLS between the replacements and the regular refs. No microscope needed.

Yes. The real refs are garbage too. That can be seen from the constant bitching about the refs that has occurred for years, probably since you started watching football in the SIXTIES. However, the difference isn't AS significant as it is being made out to be. Yes, the replacement refs are awful, slow down the game, and make some head-scratching calls, but so do the real refs. Again, that's not me saying the real refs aren't better, because they obviously are, but they both fuck-up a lot.

Bottom-line, it doesn't matter who is reffing the games. The refs are always going to screw up and the fans/players/coaches are always going to complain about it.

I told my wife Sunday that the NFL was going to get something done soon, because the refs became the story of every game. IMO the announcers critiqued the scabs to unfair amounts and fans just lined up to take shots as well. As it has been mentioned people forget that they hate the regular refs as well, so this will be interesting, but I don't expect that same sort of venom.

And that's where we differ. It is a significant difference. You don't see nearly the frequency of horrible calls as we are seeing the last couple of weeks.

I think the announcers really went off the last two weeks because they were told that they should lay off the replacements during week one as a deal was imminent.

After week one when it was clear that wasn't going to be the case the gloves really came off because there were a lot of dumb mistakes that didn't necessarily have huge impacts on the game happening but were easy for the announce crews to pick apart.

Then when there was a blatant missed or bad call they really went apeshit more so than they regularly would because they were still pissed about being lied to in week one.

I didn't need the critiques from the guys in the booth. What Gruden had to say Monday Night had no effect on me. I could see the bad calls with my own eyes during the Packer games. I could see the bad calls on replays of other games.

I also don't have venom towards the replacement officials. I actually feel bad for them. But I sure can see the difference between the regular and replacements.
