Replacement Ref Discussion Thread - Deal Reached, Will Work Thursday

Chris Mortenson is reporting that a deal is "at hand" and that the real officials will be on the field Sunday. Looks like tomorrow nights game will be the final appearance for the replacement refs.

There's an agreement in principal and, if completed, the refs COULD be on the field as early as Sunday.

How do you usually deal with incompetent employees, you fire them. The NFL refuses to fire these incompetent refs that have now, beyond a shadow of a doubt, cost a team a game. That makes for two straight terrible Monday Night Football games in a row for the league.

Agree. Some seem to be making the poor officiating a mere footnote and then expounding on the things that the poor officiating is creating. I feel for these replacement refs, but they are way over their heads. They are the story, not the players tweeting.

NFL needs to reign these guys in, and fast. It's becoming established that you don't need to respect the officials, and that will not end well for anybody.

The players are exasperating the situation worse than some of these calls.

Here you are just flat out wrong. The calls themselves are far worse than some players tweeting, or a coach gently grabbing an officials arm as he's trying to catch up to the official running off the field just to get an explanation. The calls themselves are MUCH WORSE then some tweets and a gentle arm grab.

The calls are effecting outcome of games. In this thread, you been such a show me guy. So show me one fan that has attacked a ref over because of player tweets. Until then, stop with the over-exaggeration.

The refs, part time employees mind you, are demanding pensions.

First of all pensions? Really? Is this 1960? Secondly, the league doesn't pay some full time employees pensions.

Why is nobody blaming the refs and their greedy union?

Plenty of people at fault here, starting with the real refs (the ones who apparently are awesome and never make mistakes ever).

Sure, make refs full time employees and pay them as such. That or, in a free market system, we are seeing what these regular refs are actually worth. So either you give them the pensions, or you settle for really bad officiating. Officials Union, NFL, are both at fault here.

I bet Thursday will be the highest rated TNF game this season. Same for Sunday. People are feigning their level of outrage.

So far, I've only watched Packer Games, while LOLing at how bad the officiating is. These poor guys are getting so much heat, but it's deserved. I do feel bad for them. I also feel bad for the players, coaches and fans.

"We just wanna play, man" The refs never once said "We just want to get in there and ref again" they held their ground and showed how stupid the league looked without them.

And by rape, you mean paying the referees roughly $150,000 per year (not including pension/401K) for 16 days of work with an insane per diem that includes 1st class flights and 5 star hotels with car service and all meals. I wish that I could get in on some of that rape.

I'm glad the real officials are coming back but their strike over a pension plan vs. 401K was ridiculous. They are very fortunate the scab refs were so bad it played into their favor. If the scabs had performed well, the regular refs would have been place in Japanese storage and never heard from again.

I do agree the players should show restraint on twitter, but shouldn't the replacement officials (who I think are doing the best job they can, but are way over their head) should be taking the blame for all the "goofball" frenzy? And really, "goofball" frenzy? Also blame the NFL and Refs union for this "frenzy"?

The replacement officials have been just flat out bad. Not passable, or almost as good as the real officials. They have been flat out bad.

Way it with me W2B, I WAS WRONG, they have not been passable, they have been BAD. You can feel bad for them all you want. I feel bad for them. They aren't trying to be bad, they just are. Say you were wrong and I'll gain some more respect for you.

I've said the officials are bad about 100 times, i've also said the real officials are better about 100 times, and i've also said that like everybody else, I want the real officials back. I'm not sure what you want from me.

I saw the same debacle you saw Monday, but unlike a lot of people it's not the first awful call i've ever seen, and it won't be the last. I'm not pretending to be outraged or ready to stake a fake boycott. The real refs will come back, we will all heap loads of forced praise on them for a week or two, and then they will blow a bunch of key calls and we will all hate them again. Because make no mistake, they are terrible, too.

The ref thing is whatever, they played the NFL's hand, NFL was unprepared and found themselves in a terrible position and had to cave.

You were saying "passable", "good enough" and "not much different then the real refs", while berating others for saying they have been just flat out bad. Oh, you might have used "bad" as a footnote a couple times just to cover your ass. Just say you were wrong. They have been flat out bad. NOT passable, NOT good enough, and a BIG difference from the regular refs. Just say you were wrong.

Again minimizing. It wasn't awful call, it was awful CALLS. And we will hate the refs, but we will hate them far less then we hate the replacement refs. And I don't really mean "hate" in the real sense. Just admit YOU WERE WRONG.

My main gripe with the replacements from the start has been procedural issues. Penalty yardage, challenges, clock management, etc. It's embarrassing. The real officials will get that cleaned up.

I don't really care to nit pick about judgement calls like PI, holding, etc. like a lot of people have been doing.

Sorry, i'm not grabbing a pitchfork or calling up sports radio to scream like a maniac about it.

I sincerely hope everybody remembers how nit picky they were during this whole debacle, because I will and i'll be happy to remind them when the real officials are back to sucking when they return.

I can't wait for the new refs to come back. 1)They are obviously better. 2) They have SUCH expectations to live up to now. We can all agree the scab refs are bad but all of their mistakes have been completely blown out of proportion (minus the MNF call, but we aren't even sure the real refs would have called it differently). The real refs are going to be under more scrutiny now since we had this replacement ref debacle and it should be fun to see them make a few big errors.

I just hope the media holds the regular refs under the same microscope and criticizes their blown calls with equal vigor. I think, however, they will jump back in line and act as if every call made is perfectly correct.

Nit picky? Didn't you just post that you watched that debacle of a MNF game and then you come back to call it nit picky? No wonder you never admit to being just flat out wrong. You talk out of both sides of your A$$.

Their have been countless more bad calls in 3 weeks of football then one MNF call. There were a bunch of significantly bad ones in that one game alone. It's not being blown out of proportion. Regular refs make mistakes, but not nearly this many.
