Not a lot of great pickups in recruiting, but you still got some good recruits in-season. Surprised Willis transferred, but he probably wouldn't play next year anyway. !ADIOS AMIGO!

Yea. since i got all my great recruits during the season, that all my recruits were shit in the off-season. yea, willis transferred, and he would only play sparingly this season. so i can see why he left.

Off-Season Report: Players Cut

Bloomington, IN - The Indiana coaching staff looked over it's 79-man roster yesterday and realized that they were above the 70-man limit. They went to work, cutting down the roster to the maximum requirement. "It was tough cutting all these players," said coach Thompson. "Even worse than that was telling the cut players that they couldn't play for us any longer. The look on their faces is horrendous, and I hate to see them go. This is the worst part of coaching."

Ish. They were all 4th or 5th stringers except the punter, who was a backup. but no one needs a backup punter, so im not worried about him. the only player im really sad to see go is jeff johnson. he was all right. thanks for checkin in though

Jammone Chester is the Hoosiers lone bright spot at quarterback (96 overall), because Teddy Schell (senior) and Edward Wright-Baker (sophmore), have had no prior playing experience. With Chester at the helm, however, the quarterback position should be one of the stronger offensive positions.

Indiana's halfbacks, along with the receiving core, are the deepest and most talented positions on Indiana's offense. Led by Deleon Eskridge (92 overall) and Zach Davis-Walker (90 overall), the Hoosiers have an amazing balance of backs. Eskridge is more of a speed back, and his main skill is running around the line of toss and stretch plays. Davis-Walker, on the other hand, loves to pound the ball up the middle. This balance will create huge openings in the defense, which will allow Indiana to run/pass the ball with more efficiency.

Laugh all you want, because no one is stopping you. Indiana--for the second year in a row--has one of the worst group of fullbacks in the nation. Since they only have one man for the job, he gets to start immediately. The starter? Don Brown, a freshman from Gary, Indiana. His 71 overall might be an overstatement, considering he's one of the smallest men on the team. In this department, Indiana is just terrible...again....

Although the depth is lacking in the receiving department, the starters are some of the best receivers in the country. Damarlo Belcher, the reigning Big 10 Receiver of the Year, is expected to do great things this year. He is 2nd in the Preseason Heisman Watch List, and is a 1st Team All-American. Duwyce Wilson, one of the top returners in the country, is a very underrated receiver. He is almost as good at catching as he is at returning kicks, which is saying a lot. Charles Love is enjoying his first year as a starter (87 overall), Matt Ernest is looking to improve on his 4th spot (85 overall), and the rest are too young to tell. Overall, this group of kids is one of the best in the Big 10.

The offensive line is a little weaker than last year since they lost three starters, but their are still a formidable opponent. Of course, you are only as strong as your weakest link, and J.J. fine is a pretty weak starter. With only a 78 overall and one of the worst bench presses on the team, he will give up a lot of sacks this year. It is up to the rest of the team to make up for his failures. Andrew McDonald (96 overall) is the best player on the entire Hoosiers team, and Will Matte and John Wilson provide great protection at the center position. Donald Keller is most known for his duties as a goal line tight end, but he is great at the right tackle position. Josh Hager doesn't get much publicity, but he is one of the most reliable offensive linemen in the country.

2011-2012 Preseason: Special Teams Preview

Kicker

Mitch Ewald, the reigning Kicker of the Year, is once again Indiana's top special teams player. He can kick the ball extremely far, he can kick it very accurately, and he can kick the ball well in any type of climate. He's one of the best all-around kickers in the NCAA this season, possibly in the history of college football.

Punter

Chris Hagerup never quite lived up to his potential, but he is hoping for a stellar season this year. "This is my last year, and I want to make the most of it," he said. Even though he doesn't have very many opportunities to punt (he punted a total of 39 times last year, which was last in the NCAA for starting punters), he punted the ball an average of 53.2 yards per kick, which was the best in the NCAA. If he gets more opportunities to punt, he could be one of the best punters this year.

The overall ratings for the players look a lot better than they really are, I'm sorry to announce. Every single team in the NCAA has at least one player with a 97 overall or bettter in the returning column. But nevertheless, this group of kids is still an outstanding bunch. Duwyce Wilson, 12th last year in the Returner of the Year award voting, returns for his Junior year with a vengeance; he has been voted 12th two years in a row for the award. Damarlo Belcher is almost as good as Wilson is, returning one of his kicks last year for a touchdown. Deleon Eskridge was 2nd in the Returner of the Year award two years ago while playing at Minnesota, but seems to have lost a little bit of his touch since then.

Backup James Webster is the only player that can pass as an average athlete; Eric Thomas (78 overall), Ahmad Brown (75 overall), and Tony Jackson (74 overall) are just terrible.

For the first time under coach Anthony Thompson, he realizes what it is like to lack youth in a position. Led by Larry Black Jr. (junior) and Milton Owens (senior), this group of kids features no athletes under the age of 20. And even though they are an aging group of students, they still lack the experience that will make them the top Defensive Tackles in the nation. Only Larry Black has ever played in a college game, and Milton Owens was on the Indiana practice squad until this season. Nevertheless, they should be able to force some pressure on the quarterback.

Left Outside Linebackers

Overalls can be misleading. Tim Alexander, a member of the 2010 2nd Team All-American team, is predicted to be a first teamer this season. Malcolm Harvey is a force to be reckoned with at backup, and Darius Johnson is one of the most improved players on the entire Indiana roster this season. Barring major setbacks, this should be Indiana's bright spot on the defense.

Middle Linebackers

The Middle linebackers have what the defensive tackles' lack; youth. The defensive tackles have what the middle linebackers' lack; age. Led By Jonathan Green (sophomore), the middle linebackers don't have age OR depth. Backing up Green is Tracy Lilly, a freshman with a 78 overall. Behind him lies William Brown, another freshman (76 overall for him). And bringing up the rear is Ian Reeves, a senior who has never played a down of football in the NCAA--and he probably never will. Green will pose a threat as a run-stopper, but he can't play the pass worth shit.

Forget what I said about other positions lacking depth and age. Indiana's right outside linebacker position is the worst in the NCAA. With four true freshman as coach Anthony Thompson's only options for the starting job, he went with Drew Gray (77 overall) as the starter. And it gets worse from there. Brandon Berg and Alex Harper (72 overall) are the 2nd stringers. Malcolm Howard, with a 71 overall, is being redshirted this season. This position cannot get any worse.

The 3rd and 4th cornerbacks for Indiana could be starting at schools like Florida, Ohio State, and Kansas. Yes folks, they're that good. George Newberry, one of the top recruits this year, rounds out the group as the 5th corner. James McGuire was a 2 star corner this year, but proved to be better than expected as he managed to make the Indiana team.

The safeties for Indiana are entering a down year, with Jerimy Finch being the only player with prior experience at safety. Six of the eight players playing the safety position are freshman, and the other two are entering their final years as a Hoosiers. One of them, Jerimy Finch, is one of the top safeties in the Big 10 (92 overall, 85 catching rating). Beau Walker is just a freshman, but he hopes to be at least mentioned as a possible NCAA All-Freshman team member. The rest of them are all about equal. From the 3rd string to the 8th string, only two overall points separate them. It should be interesting to see who gets what position as the year goes on.

thanks timmy. and i doubt he will win it though. he'll probably only be up there for a few weeks. i can't pass him the ball often enough to get him the catches, yards, touchdowns, etc. to actually win the award. but it's cool that he's up there now.
