Not at all. Kobe was a good scorer, Nash was a leader. Neither year did Kobe or his team do better. Nash lead his teams to win, which gave him that value.

Wins must play some kind of role, they just cannot be the sole reason to give someone an MVP.

So Kobe didn't do that over CP3 last year? Specifically at the end when the #1 seed was on the line and Kobe lead them to H2H victories over CP3 and the Hornets? This is why the NBA needs to define what the award actually means. As it stands right now, it's just pick your personal favorite and make up an argument for them.

Where would the Lakers have ended up without Kobe? A 4-5 seed.

That's the difference. The Lakers would have been fine without Kobe. The Hornets were CP3.

Without Kobe I highly doubt the Lakers would have finished as a 4-5 seed, but it really doesn't matter because its all speculation. However, IMO Paul was the MVP, but Kobe was also deserving of the award.As Panda said, it came down to the game between the Lakers and Hornets for #1 seed in the west and the Lakers came out on top, which is why Kobe won the award.

I've never been of a fan of the logic of "take player X off of team A" and see what happens, because it can't be proven.Generally what really happens is that someone has a belief of who should win and uses that failed logic to validate it.

I feel like I did you guys a dishonesty by not mentioning CP3, one of my favorite players to watch. I'm a homer through and through and will bleed black and blue..excuse me...wine and gold. When Chris Paul is on though, I'm watching. The guy is a stud, reminds me of Iverson when he first came to the league. Undersized guy that makes your head spin. CP3 will get his in time, though he deserved it last year. Plenty of opportunity for this guy to amaze over the next decade.

And that's something the NBA needs to change. Guys like CP3 deserved that award. Kobe didn't get the MVP, he got the "Lifetime Achievement" award. The NBA just needed to give him one sometime and they figured last year was their best chance to give it to him. We all know CP3 was the true MVP last year.

Earl Boykins can't weigh more than 110-120, so if he was still in the NBA I'd say he has the most talent per pound

Cp3 doesnt deserve it imo, the Hornets have really underachived.

You never watch any Heat games, do you? The way the refs are calling fouls, etc. partly ruins the game for me, as far as the NBA goes. Same goes for LeBron, but Wade "gets" the most calls by far.

When you put pressure on a ref by going in and getting contact all the time, its going to look like the refs are giving him a ton of calls. Plus.. its the NBA, you know the stars get the most respect from the officials.

Drawing fouls is an ability. Just like getting hit by a pitch in baseball. Wade looks for the foul because he knows he can go knock down 2 shots from the line. Kobe gets the calls too. All these players we are talking about have a great ability to draw fouls. Don't act like refs are favoring people when it is a vital part of these superstars game.

I think its seriously going to be a tough decision between LeBron and Wade. LeBron's 28-7-7 is beastley, while Wades 30-5-7-2-1 is just insane for a guy who has been plagued by injuries

Also wasn't the MVP last season Chris Paul's to lose with only a couple games remaining they held a 4 game lead over the lakers and the #1 seed in the west. During that stretch of games Paul choked (yes he choked i think only scoring like 2 points in one of the games) and the lakers took the #1 spot please tell me how that made Paul the MVP

and hate to start a flame war but... paul was the clear MVP last season. he got some help from west and peja, but clearly paul had that team on his back - his % of the team's FGM was .491 last season, compared to .374 for kobe. and the whole 'the lakers won the h2h matchup' argument is moot of the lakers aren't gifted pau gasol for the stretch - they were 22-4 with him in the lineup after the transaction (5-5 otherwise). meanwhile the hornets go 17-8 in mar/apr (right in line with their season win%), with paul going for 21/13, but the final score of the third-to-last game in an 82-game season is how you decide who is the league's MVP?

I like this but in the context of how the MVP trophy is actually awarded Kobe and the Lakers edging out the Hornets at the end of last season was more important. I'm not defending it but common sense said that last season with CP3 and Kobe being two of the top candidates, the race for #1 in a West played a huge factor. And why doesn't this take defense/rebounds. Players like Dwight Howard get dicked here, and how many MVPs whould Shaq have with this system?
