Williams, on top of what we'll give in a trade, is going to have to come to a contract extension seeing as he is in his remaining year(or only has a year left after this season) with Carolina. It is a lot to give. I'd much rather see Cullen Jenkins get a deal before this happening.

I'd just like to see the Packers with a running back threat. Bills won't trade Lynch and Williams is really our only solid option at this point. A player and pick isn't too much IMO, especially when we have depth at both WR and LB. The Packers can't get through many more games without a decent running attack.

I should also note that the Lions have 2 wins in the 3 years since Martz left, and the Rams are 16-52 since Martz left.

Oh come on. Mike Martz leaving is not the reason the Lions suck. Absolutely terrible front office decisions and questionable coaching is why we suck.

We sucked before Martz, we sucked with Martz, and we suck after Martz. And I know you'll point out how we were 7-9 with Martz, well what you'll fail to notice upon simple observation was the fact that the team started 6-2 and then tanked and went 1-7. The defense was really bad but early in the year we were winning games with our ability to score and that disappeared later in the year, seeing as we put up 14 points or less 4 times. The only game we won was because it was a against a garbage KC Chiefs team.

Martz is a good coordinator, but he is not the sole reason for success, nor is he the sole reason for failure.

Yeah except you don't get that because the reason Shanahan was fired was because he wouldn't fire the dipshit DC that was in love with the cover 2. And the defense this year is playing lights out for Martindale without the biggest pass rushing threat we had in Dumervil. The strides he has made with Ayers have been great and next year this could be a team to reckon with. The offense is great, we just need a back.. BAD!

It wasn't a 1 for 1 deal.. We got two first rounders as part of the deal as well. Even though we did a fine job of squandering those away... I'm not just using last year against Cutler. Look at his turnover numbers from Denver. Under a guy who got Brian Griese and Jake Plummer to the playoffs. Look at him hold onto the ball last night, look at him still throwing INTs into the end zone. And now look at him missing games with a concussion because Mike Martz is still convinced offensive lineman are pointless. Jay Cutler is the same million dollar arm, ten cent brain that came out of Vandy. He got bailed out by a bad call against Detroit and had three picks nullified against a Packers team that might as well have had Art Shell as their head coach for the discipline they showed on the at final drive. All the while, Orton's numbers have been much better despite playing three of the better coached teams in the league defensively.

Are we talking about the 30th ranked Jags defence (L), the 25th ranked Seattle Defence and the 24th ranked Indy defence (L) here?

Bronco fans for some reason took offence that McDaniels tried to trade Cutler for Cassell before lying about it, causing Cutler for some mystifying reason to take offence to it.

I simply said that Cutler has been looking good under Martz, until last night. And that if any OC can bring out the best in Cutler, it's Mike Martz. The guy has a rating over 100, a 3-1 record, so I'm not willing to say that this ''experiment'' is a bust yet. However, unless Jay Cutler learns to release the ball on time, it will indeed be a huge failure. Martz needs a guy who has a quick release, and releases the ball when he's supposed to. Jay Cutler spends too much time looking downfield, for the deep ball. Chicago doesn't need that.

You guys make me laugh - you sat around for four weeks, waiting for Jay Cutler to have a bad game, just so you can create a thread about it. I agree that Orton is outplaying Cutler but you can't comment on Orton breaking the passing yards record when he's throwing 45 passes a game. Several guys in the league could do the same, and there is QB's doing even better than Orton proportional to his passing attempts.

Never said bench Cutler.. I just haven't seen him make the strides yet. He's at least a year away in that system and you yourself have said there's no way Martz sticks around there as an OC next year. .

Ever see a Mike Martz playbook? It'll take Jay Cutler at least another year in that system to even come close to being able to run it, the way it should be run. Kurt Warner said, when he left, he still didn't have it all down. It's ridiculous what Martz expects his quarterbacks to know, and learn, which is why it's hard for him to find a job.

And like you said, something I've been trying to point out, as well - Jay won't have time to learn it, period. If Chicago fails to make the playoffs this year, that entire staff is gone. If they do make it, Martz is still gone. The only thing Cutler will get from any of this, is the chance to mature and be a leader, instead of the whiny little bitch he's been throughout his entire career, and hopefully for Chicago's sake, a quarterback who doesn't have to always look for the deep ball. But so far, that Jay Cutler is still showing his ugly face.

If you hold onto the ball in Martz's system too long, you won't finish the season in one piece.

And as much as I hate to say it, Cutler would have 1565 yards if he got the same amount of passing attempts. Nearly 150 more yards than Orton.
