[Super Bowl XLV] Green Bay Packers (13-6) vs Pittsburgh Steelers (14-4)

Just picked up my commemorative Super Bowl cake.

Made to look like the football field with team names in end zones and XLV in middle of field. Team colors etc. - Qtr sheet, butter cream icing.
 
Today, I just watched the 1961 NFL Championship Game in it's entirety. My Uncle lives a couple of minutes away from me, and his neighbor gave him a copy on DVD. How did his neighbor come to have a copy of the game you ask? The guys has a friend that was able to record the game in 1961 via the CBC channel. A Canadian broadcast, so it was legal.

Damn Huff was a beast in that game, but GB manhandled NY's #1 ranked defense and won 37-0. What an F'n great game to watch. I was too young to remember those early years. I can go back as far as the two SB's but not the 1961 game. But it was awesome seeing the old timers play. So many that I recognized.

I'm hyped for tomorrow.

Absolutely incredible feeling to say that I've stuck with these Packers since I started following football in '02, through the horrible '05 season, the transition from Favre to Rodgers, and to finally get rewarded with it feels so much better than if it was someone who hopped on the bandwagon.
 
Surprisingly Bruce Arians actually called a decent game today, typically he'll neglect the run so I'm pleased to see how effective the ground game was. Arians kept pounding them and kept going with what was working best for us, GB just couldn't stop Mendenhall hitting that right edge. Trying to get Ben in a good rhythm and make the defense play up with the bubbles and then going deep was also part of a good gameplan. Unfortunately Ben couldn't execute. Wallace was open and had his man beat on a couple throws, at least, but Ben didn't get the ball in the right spot.

Overall though the team just didn't seem ready, their play was very undisciplined and IMO that falls on the HC. As far as Troy's play goes hes always been the live by the sword die by the sword type of player. That's what makes him great and also what causes him to be beat on occasion. You can't nor would I want to change that about him. Good game and definitely a battle between some of the best coaches in the league. The gameplans were there, but in large part the execution wasn't.
 
Steelers have nothing to apologize for - they just lost a game.
They showed a lot of guts in the 2nd half, coming back.
A few stupid penalties didn't help their cause, but shit happens in a game.
I still wonder what the hell was wrong with Polamalu. He was an absolute non-factor throughout the playoffs.
My gut tells me we're gonna find out he has a serious injury.
That James Harrison didn't have a huge game today was a huge surprise. Green Bay's offence is a horrid matchup issue for the Steelers. All those receivers.
 
Vindication for Ted Thompson. Dude took a lot of heat during that Brett Favre mess, but it paid off.

I hope you Packer fans realize how lucky you are, going from Favre to Rodgers. Some teams take years to replace a HOF quarterback(the Dolphins are still looking). And with all the young talent GB has on both sides of the ball, they're set up nicely for the next 5-7 years.
