Have you guys ever watched PWG? Any thoughts on it?

PWG is very good. A little too much comedy sometimes for my tastes, but it's basically all of the usual ROH faces over the years, plus some of the west coast guys like Human Tornado, Joey Ryan (who I cant stand), Quicksilver, Super Dragon (who I believe runs the company), etc.

Any of the two day "Battle Of Los Angeles" shows are super high quality wrestling.

Unless you're a YouTube, torrents guy, it'll cost ya a few bucks to get some DVDs of indy's or Japan.

I was SUPER into wrestling around the time of Wrestlemania 14 (and a few ppvs before that) up until after the invasion angle, and dropped a lot after the NWO invasion angle. Both WCW and WWF, and very little ECW

But i do remember watching a lot of Sumerslams, survivor series etc before WM14. Lot of Shawn Michaels, Taker, Razor, Diesel, Vader, Hitman, Foley, Funk, etc.

Made the mistake of making a joke this weekend, and it looks like going to Atlanta for WrestleMania is suddenly a real possibility. Its a 3000 km drive... haven't done a drive that long in two months.

That total trip was about 8000-9000 KM (4800 miles). This one would probably end up being similar. Its the punishment faced for living in the middle of fucking nowhere. Flying makes so much more sense, but you miss so much doing that.

The real fun part was that I did all the driving on that last trip, and probably would again on this one too.

A thought on Money in the Bank...

Honestly, its perhaps the most successful gimmick the WWE uses, save perhaps being Royal Rumble winner.

Unlike 99% of what the WWE does, it reinforces consequence, makes matches meaningful, and is one of the few unpredictable things the WWE does. I believe every Money in the Bank winner has gone on to win the championship... but you never know when or where it'll be cashed in. It's been cashed in on network television and on PPVs.

I heard someone bitching not too long ago that they did all that building up of Nexus and Wade Barrett only to give The Miz the title and that made no sense. I think it made perfect sense precisely because of Wade Barrett and Nexus. I never saw it coming, and thus it gave me a sense that there were things going on other than Nexus. WCW and TNA have both failed to keep a living, breathing world alive outside of NWO/Immortal. The WWE has effectively made Nexus a part of WWE rather than being the WWE at the moment with this one move... plus putting the big strap on The Miz puts over who could go on to be the one true money draw of the next ten years of professional wrestling (being that as far as I'm concerned, he's the only guy left who's in business for himself and not just reading off the cue card).

(plus I think they're going to use Nexus to turn Miz 'face)

Money in the Bank is a microcosm of everything professional wrestling needs to get back in order to be successful again.

Tournaments and things like that are great ways of elevating mid-card talent to the next level...at the end of the day, it is one big event to promote the rise of a talent.

It is why tonight's KotR is going to be a good, fun watch...everyone in it is in need of some sort of boost or notch on their belt...this is a great way for those guys to get it. A whole three hours that will highlight the rise of one guy to the next level. Same with MitB, except it is a match. The Royal Rumble...one match...but then pending road to WrestleMania gives this one guy the opportunity to be the focal point. I still wish they'd get rid of the PPV between the RR and WM...it'd make WM that much more important.

It is simplicity that is missing from wrestling...its gotten too far away from the pseudo sport and strictly focusing on the entertainment aspect. That is where if a company like TNA (lulz) could take advantage of their ability to market their product nationally. Instead, they are cool with being dollar store end of the era wCw. Whatever floats their boat.
