The only one who really ate him up was Maze on that deep ball. But PP actually made the smart play by holding onto his arm and making catching that ball impossible. He turned a 40 yard pass into a 15 yard penalty.

PP7 will give up a big play every now and then, all great corners do, but his impact in all aspects of the game can't be replicated elsewhere.

Thoughts on the game ... FT style.

GOOD

-Michael Fuckin' Ford. Finally got the extended look Tiger fans were waiting to see. He ran hard all night, and showed a good burst when he turned a busted play into a 30-yard touchdown scamper.

- Red Zone offense- 4 for 5 will get it done against opponents. Our overall yardage total was low but that's a bit deceiving since we started so many drives with good field position. We got points off turnovers and that's big.

- The defense. Oh my god, the defense. 5 takeaways, two TD returns, a huge return from Peterson all the way to the 15 yard line, and countless sacks and pressures. This is really a special unit. Kelvin Sheppard and Patrick Peterson could start for any team in the country. John Chavis is going to miss the playcalling flexibility he gets with Sheppard in the middle. It was great to see younger members of the secondary like Craig Loston and Ron Brooks make big plays. And you always love when a big guy like Lavar Edwards gets rewarded with a touchdown.

- OL play was good, especially the second unit. Faulk, Williford and Shaw stepped in and played well. The great news is that Hurst and Blackwell will both be back for this week's game. Our OL just got a HUGE lift with getting two of our starters back for the stretch run. Just what Ridley needs to finish strong.


BAD

- 75% of the crowd bailing at halftime

- The awfulness of the Tigervision broadcast.

- QB play remained spotty, but most of that is on the receivers. They have to stop drifting into la-la land and cut out these drops. It's purely a concentration issue and it's entirely correctable. Randle is our best WR at this point, but he's gotta hold on to the ball every single time. He's had a few drops this year. He's a great player, and could possibly become a dominant one if he can become more consistent in catching the football. Same goes for TT and Shepard. Toliver with yet another drop, this time in the end zone. He's making plays though. He seems to have more a connection with Lee, while JJ is more in-tune with Randle.

First of all ... LOL at the "high powered" Oregon offense. Darron Thomas proved to be an incompetent shit at the QB spot and LaMichael James went down on first contact enough for you to not even factor him in after halftime. All in all it was a pretty straight forward, pedestrian performance by LSU. Just a methodical beating. Two rushers had 95+ yards and the defensive line and secondary looked dominant. The passing game still needs to come around but LSU looked DAMN STRONG in their opener.

OVERALL GRADE: A++++++

Darron Thomas proved to be an incompetent shit at the QB spot and LaMichael James went down on first contact enough for you to not even factor him in after halftime. All in all it was a pretty straight forward, pedestrian performance by LSU. Just a methodical beating. Two rushers had 95+ yards and the defensive line and secondary looked dominant. The passing game still needs to come around but LSU looked DAMN STRONG in their opener.

Eh...its common knowledge that if you have time to prepare for it, its not that high powered.

Last year they didn't play anybody worth a damn until Auburn and their D was pretty stifled. The year prior, they played Boise at the beginning of the season and were held to 8 and then played Ohio State and were held to 17.

At the end of the day, no matter how high powered your offense is, if you give a team real time to prepare for it, it'll struggle, especially to a team that plays D. Oregon needs to learn to play D. Last year they teetered on the bend but don't break method, but now they lost a lot of guys so that method won't be working this year.

I'd like to think Oregon has a few more of these stinkers in them. I think Stanford will beat them this year and make the Pac12 title game.

People love to get caught up on the offense's that teams run, but a lot of times they overlook the defense. The only team to win a NC since 2000 without a dominant defense was Auburn last year, and they still shut down the run to the tune of 11th in the nation.
