They play really good defense, but they are bleh most of the time. Still, they've beaten Purdue twice this year (another bleh team), who is currently ranked above Illinois.

The entire Big 10 is "bleh" this year. The "Bleh 10" perhaps? I'd be surprised if they had more than 1 team in the Sweet Sixteen. I can't see a Big 10 team going to the Elite 8 this year at all.

When Illinois focuses on D they are tough but they really don't have much that jumps out at you or intimidates you.

McCamey is good. Mike Davis is the Tyrus Thomas of The Bleh 10, then you just kind of have a bunch of "meh" guys like Meecham, and Tisdale and Frazier is flatout awful.

Hell the one player this year I thought could be a difference maker and electrifying was Alex Legion and he has looked pretty much lost in his own body this season.

McCamey is their only consistent producer. Tisdale is a 7-1 guy who can score inside, has great hands, and has a good outside shot. Why he doesn't see more of the ball is a mystery to me. Mike Davis seemingly has a ton of potential, but he doesn't really know what he's doing on defense (and is thus the weak link) and he doesn't have any court savvy. Illinois could be better if Tisdale and Davis reached their potential. Alex Legion has been awful. Illinois already has several players who can miss 3-pointers.

Yeah, perhaps I was a little harsh on Tisdale but he seems to disappear so much that it's tough to ever really get excited about the guy. Sometimes he will remind you of James Augustine, then others he will remind you of Nick Smith and you just want him to go away.

At his best I think he could be the type of player Brian Cook was, especially offensively.

My question with the Big 10 is how many teams will they put into the tourny and how many actually deserve to be there. Mich St, Purdue, and Illinois will get in..then who? Penn St? Minnesota? Both those teams are horribly average then you dip down into the Michigans, Ohio St's, and Wisconsins of the conference.

Augustine was more athletic and could run the floor way better than Tisdale. He was also more aggressive. I think Tisdale's lack of aggression is a big factor, but again it doesn't seem like Illinois feeds him the ball. So I don't know where to place the blame.

The Big10 is crap, but I figure every team with a winning conference record will get into the tournament. But right now there are 5 or 6 teams hovering around .500, so I guess the Big10 could get 7 or 8 teams in or maybe just 3 or 4 depending on how these last few games go.

Augustine was more athletic but every once and a while you will get a "flash" of something ouut of Tisdale that makes you think of him. Overall though I think Tisdale's style of play is much more suited to him turning into a Brian Cook type player.

I can't recall the last time the Big 10 was so down. I'm only 24 though but for most of my life it seemed you had 3 or so Big 10 teams with a legit shot at the Elite 8 when they came into the tourny and this year I'm not sure there are 3 that are legit threats for the Sweet 16.

Is it just the Big 10 or is it nationwide because even the Top 25 outside of 3 or 4 dominate teams seems to be a muddled mess mediocrity. ie...Memphis is #4 in the nation???
 
The Big10's best players are all underclassmen, so I think it might just be a timing issue rather than a distinct downward spiral for the Big10. They still have some good coaches. From what I have seen this year, IMO the Big East is clearly the best conference by a wide margin. The Big12 is garbage this year...they are like the Big10 but they have Blake Griffin. The ACC seems to be the 2nd best conference. The Pac10 seems really down, too, because I think the Washington schools are overrated and UCLA isn't as good as they have been. The fact that Arizona is competitive this year goes to show how mediocre the Pac10 is in general.

I would agree with that assesment. The NCAA Tourny shouldbe interesting because of all the parity(read mediocrity) in the NCAA right now and this could be a year where a lot of mid majors get in just because so many conferences seem to have underwhelming teams.

Then again there doesn't seem to be any midmajors really making moves this year. Butler and Gonzaga are up there, but Gonzaga got thumped by Memphis not long ago and Butler has been sputtering. Davidson dropped out of the Top 25 and that was well before Curry got hurt.

I gues I just have never seen such an average season of college basketball in my life, or at least my recent memory.

The best team Talent wise is UNC. That's why I really dont follow the polls. IMO the ESPN/USA Today poll is dumb.. They use the AP poll at the end of the year anyway.

Yeah, the coaches poll is kind of lame. How many east coast coaches are staying up late watching west coast basketball.
