A long time ago at MM, when big Browns fans like Coach were still around, I asked about the Browns/Ravens/Browns thing.

The general reaction of the hardcore Browns fans, was that they didn't root for any team during the interim period before the "new" Browns, because they knew the Browns would be coming back. And hardcore Browns fans HATE the Ravens with a passion, and did from the second Modell moved the team. The Ravens became the top rival, even more so than the Steelers.

Do we have any Browns fans left around here? I'd like to hear how they feel about it, assuming they're older than 13 and can remember the mid 90's.

But thats not the situation. The better hypothetical is if you were an Oilers fan, and the team moved to Tennessee and became the Titans, then a few years later the Houston Texans were formed....would you still root for the Titans and ignore the Texans?

I would guess Clevelanders followed the Ravens when they had no other team, but once the "new" Browns were formed, they dismissed the Ravens as quickly as a VSNer dismisses a ram29jackson posting.

I root for a team on the other side of the country. I would remain a Titans fan and a Ravens fan. Unless you're a season ticket holder I don't see why it would matter but what SuperKevin said I do understand.

Ehhh... Faulk had a season with over 1000 rushing and receiving. The year before he had 1000 rushing and 900 receiving. The year after he had 1000 rushing and 800 receiving. The stats will show that LT the Lesser was the better rusher, but I think Faulk was the better all-around player.

LT 10+years 12628 yrds, 138TDs, 536red, 3997red urds, 15 rec TDs, 1 MVP

Sht looking at it now seems like LT has an edge over faulk in every stat except Recs and the SB.

I guess LT should be ahead of Faulk.

LT has slim statistical edges in rushing, but Faulk has huge statistical edges in all receiving categories - which is what sets Faulk apart from most RB's. He is the greatest pass catching RB of all time. He had the skill set of a WR, and was a legitimate threat running a variety of routes from multiple positions. He lined up at split end, in the slot, and even ran the old Kellen Winslow TE routes in the Martz/Coryell offense.

He was also a tremendous blocker, and one of the smartest players of his era. You hear stories of Faulk chastising young WR's for running wrong routes and getting on lineman for missing assignments. When Kurt Warner injured his jaw, the Rams were prepared to have Faulk wear the earpierce in his helmet, call the plays in the huddle, call the cadance at the line, and call the audibles from the HB position. The league nixed the idea, and Warner mumbled his way through the game.

I love LT, but there is no fucking chance I start my team with him before Faulk. I might be biased, but I find it insulting to Faulk that he's not in the top 25 or so of this thing.

The best play of Faulk's career was against the Titans in 1999. Rams driving, down 3, no timeouts, Az Hakim makes a catch to put the Rams in FG position with about 0:15 left. Hakim stays down, hurt, and Faulk sprints over, picks him up by the pads, drags him to where he belongs, then postions himself legally, and the Rams are able to spike the ball. Had Hakim stayed down, with no timeouts, the ten second run off would have ended the game. I'm willing to bet most players don't even know that rule, let alone would they be heady enough to process a thought like that fast enough to act. It was the smartest play I've ever seen on a football field.

That's ridiculous, an sounds like its spoken by someone who never watched him play.

1998 he was a total yards beast, his rookie year was one of the most memorable of the last 20 years or so, and he was always considered one of the best players in the league as a Colt. He peaked with the Rams. He got hurt in '02 and got old after that.

For a guy who was "nothing spectacular" outside of three seasons, he sure racked up piles of accolades and numbers. A cursory glance at a page on profootballreference is weak sauce, i'd hate to see what you think of Gayle Sayers.

As a runner he didn't average more than 4.1 ypc. He had a good rookie year but it wasn't one of the most memorable. There are a lot of rookie years I think of before Marshall Faulk's. He did have a lot of receiving yards in '98 as well but you can't honestly say between '94 and '98 that Faulk was the best back in the league. Between '02 and '07 Tomlinson was widely considered the best back in the league.

Anyone who watched the NFL in 1994 would remember Faulk tearing shit up and being talked about like he was something special. You are off base on that. His first NFL game was the story of Week One if I recall, he went apeshit and put up something like 200 yards.

I didn't say he was the best back in the league between 94-97, I said he was considered one of the leagues better players. He was without question the best back between 98-01, and possibly the best player, period.

And there has never been a RB with his receiving ability. LT, a great receiver, averged 7.5 ypc in his career (and that number will drop). To put that in perspective, Faulk never dipped below 7.5 in a single season until 2002 when he started his decline. His career average is 9.5, and he topped 10.0 something like 5 or 6 times. He was 100 yards short in 98 of being the only back to back 1000/1000 man ever. He had 2000+ total yards 4 consecutive years. He was on a different level as an all purpose player.
