i am a child of the 70's.....grew up with good music. pretty much all that was played in the house was r&b.

Yep, late 60s, 70s, 80s & the early 90s saw r&b at it's best. Hasn't been the same since. I tried listening to some of the stuff in the 'new' r&b thread, but it made my ears hurt.

I love 1999 the album, however to me where I find dirty mind to have its only flaw in being too short, 1999 is a little too long. I feel purple rain is perfect in length.

Even though there are some great songs at the end, if 1999 ended with Free it would be perfect.

My father gets the credit for that. He had all kinds of cool music when I was growing up. We listened to Motown, Stax/Atlantic, Polydor, Philly Int'l. and artists like Nina Simone, Cannonball Adderly, Les McCann, Ella Fitzgerald, Lou Rawls, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, etc. He had tons of BlueNote and Verve jazz records. He still plays his Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra Christmas music during the holiday season.

Picking five songs for Kanye is - for me - like picking five songs for Michael Jackson or Bob Marley. Too much greatness, so I tried to do one from each album, except I skipped 808s so I could use Christian Dior, just because I like that song more than anything on 808s, with Paranoid being the closest standout... And I consider Kanye more of a rapper than Cud [who I consider a musician, not really a rapper], but more of a musician than the guys I have in the actual rap section.
