UFC 104: Machida vs Shogun 10/24

read that Machida weighed in at 202.5, very strange, maybe he is going for more speed, so there goes the theory he will puch Shogun around, Shogun came in at 205.5

I think Shogun will have his gas tank this time, walking around at 207.5 a couple days before the fight and weighing in at 204.5 is a good sign

Rumble Johnson weighed in 6 lbs over, thats Gina style

I read that Rumble had cut some absurd number of pounds to get to 170, I think it was 50 IIRC. He's huge for a WW. I still think he makes a mistake and Yoshida capitalizes.

It's funny, because on TUF they keep talking about how Roy Nelson was the IFL Heavyweight champ, and he was, but that's only because Rothwell quit the promotion before the championship Gran Prix.

Rothwell beat Nelson in the regular season, and was undefeated and the heavy favorite to win the heavyweight Gran Prix. He dominated the IFL and was the uncrowned champ. Nelson won the title after Rothwell and a few others quit when it was obvious the ship was about to sink.
 
unfortunately i have work tonight so i wont be able to catch it live :( . i should be home in time to catch the last 3 or so fights. as long as i see the main events ill be happy

Okami's situation is incredibly fucked up and should be a cautionary tale for Japanese fighters wanting to come to the UFC.

Dana was on Jim Romes show yesterday, he said we wont see any jiu jitsu or wrestling from these guys, thanks for pumping me up Dana, us MMA fans hate that stuff!
 
i saw on SportsCenter they had a bit on the fight tonight. they had short interviews with Shogun and Machida, which was kinda tough to listen to since they dont speak english very well, especially Shogun. Then Dana got on and said what rob mentioned, " its gonna be a stand up fight, no going to the ground " or something to that extent. which might very well be true, but it would of been nice to see them promote it as just a great MMA fight while not having to promise a stand up slugfest.
 
Dana is scrambling because this show has ZERO buzz, and the preview show is doing the lowest ratings in history.

Also, tickets weren't moving at all. The building is heavily papered tonight with more freebies than they have given away in years for a PPV.

This buyrate could end up embarrassingly low, but that's what you get when you have weak draws on top and put virtually nothing on the undercard.

Thats the problme when you put everything into bulding the UFC name and not the fighters, it has worked of course, but as more fans follow the sport it becomes less about 'Hey, you watching the UFC tonight?' and more about 'Hey, who's fighting tonight?'

The UFC has 1 legit star that they dont have to really promote since Chuck left and thats Brock and his built in Pro Wrestling goofball fan base, throw in GSP to since he has a country that loves him

After Carwin puts the kibosh on the Brock express it will be Kimbo headlining, the UFC should be renamed ufcXC

I just think this show is the perfect storm of alot of things.

-A champ who has never drawn and dosent speak english
-A challenger who has never drawn and dosent speak english
-A big PPV coming up next month ("eh, i'll skip this one, next month is gonna be better..."
-No undercard

I think a strong semi main would have boosted interest enough to take this show out of disaster territory. I don't think anyone really expected Machida/Shogun to do any business, so Dana basically just tossed in the towel on this one. It's not even being pushed that hard on TUF.

I think Randy/Nog shooting a blank is more disturbing, because that show should have done significantly better, especially at the gate in Portland. They will never go back to Portland. Ever. Randy drawing the bad buyrate has to make you wonder.

Anderson/Forrest did very good, and Anderson is finally established as someone they can count on. Machida needs time, and he needs to beat the right opponent. Shogun isnt that guy, because UFC fans dont give a shit about him.

No reason a show with Brock, Tito, and Forrest shouldnt crack a million. They get no excuses or passes with me if they dont.

sidenote-The crazy part, is UFC has reached a point where potentially doing, say, 800k would be a let down. Shit, even if tonight does something "low" like 300k, people will laugh, but that;s still a great number in the grand scheme if you imagine this conversation 5 years ago.

well well well. heading to work in the pouring rain tonight a little bummed i wont be able to see the fights. i get to a stop light then go up a hill. i see a car around the bend coming fast and straight at me. it takes me a second to realize im about to get hit so i brace for impact and slamo bamo she comes straight into the drivers side . some 18 year old girl going too fast in the rain and her brakes locked up. 100 percent her fault. luckily no one was hurt.

so the good news is i get to watch the fights tonight, bad news my car might be totaled. and on some real talk if she was driving a big car or truck instead of her little honda the ol CG might not be here right now. so im just gonna thank the lord i came away unscathed, relax and enjoy some good fights tonight.
