UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit (2/4 on PPV)

thats not really the point, it goes a long the lines of judging and rewarding guys for not engaging and looking to point fight, almost like guys who get on top, hold tight and dont ever open open while the guy on the bottom is throwing up subs, trying sweeps and landing shots

Condit played tag for the most part, Diaz chased him around the cage and he would flicker out slap kicks and 'score', throw some strikes and turn and jog away with his back turned

This type of thing needs to be stopped, can you really give a guy a fight for backing up the entire fight and landed low power shots? is that what we are moving towards? Look at Cyborgs leg kicks to Nick compared to Condit

Hey, Condit has a kid, a family, he went win at all costs and 'won' and will get the big payday (GSP), oh well, it ultimately lies in the judges hands and decisions like this will lead to more guys fighting like this

A lot of people and fighters agree that Diaz won 1,2 and 5, some even give him 3

Just as many believe Condit won 3, 4 & 5. Ironically, the judges each had Condit winning 2 I think.

Condit did do damage, Diaz's face had cuts all over.

Same strategy that's made Cruz the best 135er in the world, and Diaz did not adapt.

Diaz cuts and brusies easily, look at his face after Penn who he laid a beating on

Problem is judges took those weak leg kicks as quality strikes, fightmetrics and the like did the same thing, those 'stats' are not the fight, Diaz walked thru those strikes, even with those leg kicks he barely landed more

Guys running around the cage is never good for the sport, cage is to big to begin with

You can't "adapt" to a guy who runs. This isn't a game of tag. Greg Jackson once again finding new ways cheese strategy his guys to victory. Noones forcing anyone into a style lol again. Diaz was too slow and plodding. There's a reason he couldn't do any damage and it's because Condit was a moving target. Conversely, when they were close, Condit was landing more strikes.

It's not an abomination of the sport.

I think I had it 48-47 Diaz (1, 2, 5) mostly because of the 5th round takedown and sub attempts. 1 and 2 were too close but I saw them for Diaz because while Condit was moving, Diaz was able to land shots...unlike rounds 3 and 4.

I guess you're right , running away is just speedy footwork.The first thing they taught me in Boxing class is fighting is the last resort , run away if you can.

I guess Tito , Brock , and Starnes were just ahead of the curve when it comes to "movement".

Cruz does fight a similar style of stick and move, but he doesnt duck and run the way Condit was for the majority of the fight. At the time I was watching I wasnt overly annoyed by it, but after the fight was done and me and my boys were breaking it down we all agreed while Condit threw more, he was throwing then running, and Nick was really the aggressor the whole fight. Condit made it tough for Nick to get a win, I just dont enjoy how he did it.

All of Diaz's future opponents have a gameplan now. Don't stand in one place and trade with Diaz, like Daley tried.

didnt read through much of thread so im not sure if this was previously mentioned or not, but if that was the case, given around the third round or so diaz should of started going for the takedown and g&p or wear him out. body shots. knees to the side. slow this guy down do some damage. from the 1 - 3 it was apparent to diaz what condit's gameplan was. move move move strike get out of the way of counters move move move move move. go for the takedown, adapt to what your opponent is doing

what was not working though? was he going to go into a full run and try and catch Condit? Didnt a lot of people think Diaz won? Many fighters do, I would say most

Most believe like they should Diaz won the 5th, so I guess he did change it up some

Judging is bad, winning a 5 round fight backing up is lame, footwork is footwork, but tag is tag

If you cant tell the different between throwing with intention like on leg kicks like Cyborg vs Diaz, Shogun, Manhoef etc...and slap leg kicks I dont think you should be judging, thank these judges for giving fighters more reason to fight like this, HOORAY

The strategy was cheese, but he did more damage, landed the cleaner shots, landed the harder shots, and landed more shots. As boring as the strategy was, I don't see how you could not give him the win.
