#1 - 1 of 2 valid points on this list.
#2 - Cedric looked promising, are you saying you knew he wasn't?
First things first, let me be like you and groan your post because I don't like it.
Ok, now that that's done...The Cedric Benson pick was completely unnecessary because they didn't need to address the HB position - especially with a top 5 pick. Thomas Jones is still one of the best backs in the league today.
2005 was a pretty weak class but the Bears didn't need a halfback. Again, they had Thomas Jones and Adrian Peterson to spell him, should have used that pick to address a different position.
DeMarcus Ware, Shawne Merriman, Antrel Rolle, Carlos Rogers, Pac-Man, Jamaal Brown, Thomas Davis, and Derrick Johnson are just some of the guys that the Bears could have gotten had they not went after a position that they, once again, simply did not need.
#3 - Cedric decided to be lazy and have off-field issues - that doesn't fly as a Chicago Bear
Again, had they done the smart thing and addressed are more important need they would have avoided this altogether.
# 4 is Matt Forte - not sure how that was a "retard" move.
It's a retard move because they could have kept Thomas Jones throughout this entire thing and used those picks to sure up other positions of need. What's so hard to understand about this?
#5 Loved Berrian but overrated BIG time - paying him the money MN did would have been a retard move. We would have needed him every game, and he's not that guy.
Wide Receivers that the Bears have drafted since 2005:
05: Mark Bradley (2nd round) - No longer on the team
06: Devin Hester (2nd round) - Converted kick returner to WR.
07: None
08: Earl Bennett (3rd round) - Never going to be good.
09: Juaquin Iglesias (3rd round) - Done nothing.
09: Johnny Knox (5th round) - 1/5 not bad I guess!
As you can see, the Bears haven't had the best luck with WRs. Resigning Berrian would have allowed them to address other needs and given them a better number 1 WR than they currently have.
#6 - Pace was old already, and Kreutz is 32 - not sure what his problem is this year and the past couple seasons for that matter. Don't think it's his age though - he seems to be making mental errors.
Either way, both their play has declined and declined fast. Instead of taking HBs and WRs with day 1 picks every single year they could have been preparing for this OL mess.
#7 - True, but the Bears have been trying to improve that on both sides. Chris Williams, Orlando Pace, Gaines Adams - they haven't worked out, but the point is that an effort was made.
Never criticized the Williams pick.
As you yourself said, "Pace was old already," but the Bears decided to sign the 33 year old tackle with a recent history of injury problems to a 3 year, $15 million contract.
And they traded their 2nd round pick in 2010 for Gaines Adams. Too early to judge this move, and the Bears need DL help badly, but it's obvious that the Bears don't understand the importance of building through the draft.
One of the reasons they are a mess right now is because they keep trading away draft picks while letting starters go.
#8 - LMFAO. The Bears haven't had a franchise QB in... possibly ever, and they didin't have one in Kyle Orton. You guys have watched Kyle play for what - 10, 11 games now? Talk to me when HE does something in the playoffs.
Tell me when Jay Cutler does something in the playoffs. Tell me when Jay Cutler wins as many regular season games as Kyle Orton has. Hell, tell me when Jay Cutler breaks .500.
Orton's career record: 31-15
06: 12-4
07: 2-1
08: 10-6
09: 7-4
Cutlers career record: 21-27
06: 2-3
07: 7-9
08: 8-8
09: 4-7
So not only have the Bears been wasting draft picks to replace starters that they could have resigned, but now they've traded future draft picks (2 first rounders and a 3rd) for a Quarterback that can't even win half of the games that he plays in.
#9 - This is your second valid point.
Actually it's about my 9th.
#10 - I believe the Bears blitz more than any team in the league. I know they did last year, and they're up there this year too. And they don't run Cover 2 nearly as much as people talk about - when I hear other Bears fans gripe about this I instantly know they don't have a clue what they're talking about. I'll agree the defense is soft, but I'm not convinced it's because of playcalling.
Unfortunately, I can't find statistics on blitz percentages but either way, how often a team blitzes doesn't mean they run a complex scheme. It's much easier for teams to identify the blitz vs. the Bears' 4-3 than the Eagles'/Steelers' 3-4 because of scheme and personnel.
The Bears defense is ranked last in the NFL on 3rd down with teams converting 46% of the time. Obviously they are doing something wrong. Most likely because of playcalling and personnel.
