Euro 2012 Discussion

Those PK stats are completely meaningless. The first set only show that the general conversion rate is around 80%. The fact that those numbers (within just 10-15% of each other btw) jump around prove that there is no trend. The second set (regarding position) are with 10% of each other, very close, as are the third (regarding age). And 60% doesn't seem to be enough to prove that there is a trend regarding going first.

Plus there are no p-values given to actually prove that they mean anything, they're just percentages that are all fairly close to each other. It sure looks like random variation to me.

I'd like to see a percentage of how many shootouts make it to the 5th kick. That would actually be telling.

I understand you guys and the point on taking a gamble. I get it. But I do disagree that the 1st and 5th share the same pressure. If the 1st misses, then he has 4 other teammates to save his ass. If the 5th misses, he is the goat.

Both times Fat Frank went 3rd right? I think so. I know he did in 08. Back then Ron went third and missed. I guess all Im sayin is its a crapshoot. This time the roll of the dice fucked em.

As for Mario. This was the best game I have ever seen him play. For Inter or City. Willingly tracked back all night, took his chances, good for him. He was going to be one of my favorite players. I loved him when he was at Inter.

When he still had Baruwah on his shirt. When he gave the middle finger to his OWN fans after a goal.

Then he joined City, so for another year or so I will hate him unitl he leaves.
 
The chances of Ronaldo scoring are not that much greater than anybody else, in fact if you go through penalty shoot outs you will see plenty of great players not scoring and plenty of players who haven't taken a penalty in years smashing it up the middle for a free goal. Just keep the lead-foots out of the first 5 list and let fate take its course.

What if the first misses, then the other team makes all of their PKs? Who is the goat now? The guy that went first. And if the second guy misses and the other team makes all of theirs? #2 is the goat. The third guy misses and the other team makes all of theirs. #3 is the goat. etc. etc.

And you can't use anecdotal evidence as an argument. Of course in hindsight you could second guess those specific instances. Plus you're neglecting all of the times that it has worked. This is why I was saying regardless of the result, it was a poor decision. It's what you think before they kick the ball that matters.. And each time Ronaldo didn't step up to take a penalty I became more dumbfounded.
 
Somewhat interesting game with Italy-Germany. Germany used to be tall, strong defense with great goaltending. I think they are more of an attacking team now, and they didn't have anyone in the back line to handle Balotelli. I criticized Balotelli's lack of finishing last time, but he scored two pretty difficult goals and was the difference in the game. Germany had a few chances, but they didn't really control the action, IMO. They seemed to play well at the end out of desperation. I think Buffon has played very well. The Finals could come down to Buffon v. Casillas.
 
Buffon didnt play well in the first but did outstanding in the 2nd. After the game he was criticizing himself on the game, he was literally angry. After the game Prandelli said, "We did what we had thought would put them in trouble..We played centrally and looked for one-on-one opportunities with Cassano."

Im usually the biggest critic of Montolivo since im pretty sure he is a giant fagtard but he played really well yesterday. He was the one that connected the ball to Mario on the 2nd goal. Cassano and Ballotelli were finally the difference makers we thought they could be yesterday. Di Natale pissed me off missing that shot later in the game as well as Marchisio.

Also LOL at Ballotelli's remarks after the game concerning his yellow card. It was something along the lines that they didnt card him because he took off his shirt but rather because of his outstanding body.
 
Playing Kroos instead of Reus or Muller was a mistake. Removed a lot of the movement that Germany relies on and made Ozil more ineffectual

One of my best men is Italian, so I will pull for them. 3 titles in a row is damn impressive though so fair play to Spain if they win
